Gail Collins and Joe Scarborough on Hillary Clinton

by: ghost2

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 22:11:08 PM EDT

Gail Collins was on the Morning Joe, which is one of the very few shows on television I can still watch.

Joe Scarborough is the chief anchor on the Morning Joe, and I am liking him more and more this season.  It doesn't hurt that he jokingly declared himself in love with Hillary during the campaign.

ghost2 :: Gail Collins and Joe Scarborough on Hillary Clinton
They cover a lot, starting from Obama's latest ... um... changes in positions.  Pat Buchanan says that Barack Obama is close to Scalia on gun control and death penalty.  (see around 1:52), and Joe Scarborough says that he is close to Scalia and Thomas on discounting a woman's mental distress as an excuse for an abortion.  Joe said, "it's sort of the Law Office of Scalia, Thomas, and Obama."

Then they go to Hillary.  Pat Buchanan asks, "shouldn't she be picked for VP".  I though Gail didn't start well, but then said,... "it goes against everything she has done... the vice presidency is such a girl's job!"

Joe (I like him) follows that yes, how her whole life, Hillary would sit back and do all the work and the guys get all the credit, and she stopped that this campaign.  (Andrea has to get a snide comment in there) ...

It's pretty good segment. Especially at the end, when Gail, Pat, and Joe agree that Hillary single-handedly shattered the glass ceiling.

(Note: I have edited the diary to correct some minor grammar and spelling mistakes.)

Thank you Hillary. (0.00 / 0)
For giving it all you had, and more than anyone could ask for.

I especially liked (0.00 / 0)
the end of the segment where it was said "she doesn't need to be vice-president, she's bigger than that".

Indeed she is.

End of segment. (0.00 / 0)
Joe says, "as a red-state guy, ... I would have been most comfortable with Hillary Clinton picking up the phone at 3AM in the morning."

I remember thinking she'd appeal to Repub women more than (0.00 / 0)
Dem women. She has that solidness that my Repub Aunt has.

Oops - that was worded inartfully (0.00 / 0)
I didn't mean to stereotype. Just meant she would appeal to a certain type of woman, some of whom happen to be Repub.

Ed Rollins called her a "heck of a candidate" (0.00 / 0)
shook his head as he said it. He was really impressed.

We'll get you there, Hillary! We'll find a way (0.00 / 0)
to make you our president!

YES! (0.00 / 0)
We are trying.  VERY HARD!

We will find a way.

You're back! Where have you been? (0.00 / 0)

i'm getting radiation poisoning... (0.00 / 0)
...from what andrea mitchell is giving off. cheap shots about mark penn, even cattle futures. what IS it with her? they need to keep her off the air. she wouldn't even ENTERTAIN the prospect of hillary as VP.

they're all laughing at obama... except andrea.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

As I said today, (0.00 / 0)
and I hated using that word, but it was justified.  she comes across as a b---h and not the kind that gets stuff done.

Radiation poisoning is also a good way of putting it.  She keeps getting the digs in.

BTW, (0.00 / 0)
Is there anyway that I could embed this in the diary?  It doesn't take the "iframe" tag!!

[ Parent ]
short answer- no. (0.00 / 0)
iframe tags don't compute in wordpress, or in many other blog software kits. you'd have to do html from scratch. it's a way for msnbo to maintain a monopoly on their video.

Morning Joe show (0.00 / 0)
Great clip. I use to watch it the show, but I gave up with all the Obama love from Mica and guests. Is she still a cohost? Is Andrea Mitchell the new Obama shillin' host now? Poor Joe.

Alice left me in Wonderland.

I stopped watching (0.00 / 0)
MSNBC altogether.

Whew, what a relief.

I don't watch CNN either (0.00 / 0)
It is a relief.

Andrea Mitchell (0.00 / 0)
is the one who can always be counted on to be on the wrong side of any issue, to lie through her teeth and with all the charisma of a dead armadillo lying on the side of the road in the hot New Mexico sun. ( I actually saw that once so the comparison is a good one for me.)

[ Parent ]
ROFL! Accurate, and funny, comparison. (0.00 / 0)
This really cracked me up, Kenosha Marge -- and it's truthful, besides.

What a shame Ms. Mitchell has descended into a caricature of her former self, all over a lesser politician.  Pathetic.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

I think (0.00 / 0)
Andrea is insecure and doesn't have confident being there with the boyz.  So she has to criticize the female candidate to show that she has balls and not side with her sex.

Buchanon and Scarborough are sooooo (0.00 / 0)
PUMA.  I seriously love it.  I do.  I love it.  Pat Buchanon warned in 1992 that Hillary was a "radical feminist" and that she would run for President someday, now he wishes she would have won.  That's a huge acheivement for our girl.  Winning over guys like that.  It's simply amazing.

Earned respect (0.00 / 0)
She has earned a lot of respect for being strong, solid, and smart as hell.

Morning Joe (0.00 / 0)
I occasionally get to watch the last hour and have found myself in agreement with Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Scarborough. A fact that I found amazing. Mr. Scarborough has actually scolded his co-hosts for their sexists remarks and corrected their errors about HRC. I turn the show off when Mr. Scarborough is not there.
Mr. Scarborough and Mr. Buchanan understand what the DNC and Democratic leadership did not about HRC. HRC appeals to the middle of even the Republican Party. She would get the Reagan Democrats to vote for her. There would be no "flip-flopping", "re-thinking" or "re-defining" of her policies.
I hope that she turns down the offer of VP, if it is offered to her, which I do not believe that it will. HRC is bigger than the VPO and should remain in the Senate where she can keep tabs on the POTUS.

I agree (0.00 / 0)
In the Senate she can push her own agenda.  In the VP slot she has to do whatever Obama wants.  She will have to compromise too much.  The only way she should even consider VP is if Obama realizes that he actually needs her help.  But I don't see that happening.

[ Parent ]
You know. (0.00 / 0)
I think both Pat and Joe are liberated in a sense.  They are not going to run for anything anymore.  Joe Scarborough had a kerfuffle with Bill O'Reilly over support of Bush.  Bill O thought Joe was criticizing W too much, and Joe just let loose, and told him what he (Joe) thought of both of them.  It's on youtube.

I think in 2006, he apologized to Hillary over things he said when he was a congressman.

So, back to my point, when they are not running for something, they can be more honest, and let the chips fall where they may.  Also see: Al Gore, post 2000
