Lady Dumps The Tramp (Updated 3x)

According to CNN, high profile Hillary Clinton supporter, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild is dumping Obama and will be backing McCain. The announcement is set for sometime today on Capitol Hill a few blocks away from the Democratic National Committee's headquarters.

From CNN's political ticker:

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.

The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will "campaign and help him through the election," the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.

Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator's failed presidential bid.

In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

"This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him," she said of Obama in an interview with CNN's Joe Johns. "I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him."

For those of you unfamiliar with Lynn Forester de Rothschild, she built a multimillion-dollar telecommunications company before marrying international banker, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. She is currently the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is also a member of the DNC's Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in New York and London. Oh, and she rocks!

Update 1: In her statement today, Lynn Forester de Rothschild said that she "believe[s] that Barack Obama, with MoveOn.org and Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean, has taken the Democratic Party - and they will continue to - too far to the left." She believes McCain will lead the country from the center.

Update 2: CNN's Wolf Blitzer interviews Lynn Forester de Rothschild. (Note: I can't get the CNN video to post here. It's posted on my blog. Click the "interviews" link to view it.)

[Update 3] H/T to Ohioana at for posting Lynn Forester de Rothschild's article from the Wall Street Journal, Democrats Need to Shake The 'Elitist' Tag.

From the article:

While Obama supporters attempt to dismiss the charges about their candidate's perceived hauteur, they confuse privilege and elitism. Elitism is a state of mind, a view of the world that cannot be measured simply by one's net worth, position or number of houses. Throughout American history, there have been extremely wealthy figures who have devoted themselves to genuinely nonelitist principles. (Franklin Delano Roosevelt is probably the best-known example.) At the same time, many from modest backgrounds, like Harry Truman's foil, Thomas Dewey, personified elitism.

It's a good read. I recommend it to get a better understanding about Obama elitism problem.

I cannot help having a good giggle over this news. The PUMA party growls and grows.

Alice left me in Wonderland.

I really like her a lot (0.00 / 0)
She's got enough money to where they have to treat her with some respect, important enough to be interviewed on TV and listened to, and enough knowledge and intelligence to cause the DNC trouble, perfect!

and, she comes from (0.00 / 0)
middle-class roots in New Jersey, where her father worked two jobs to put her and her siblings through college. It doesn't get any better than that.

I agree! She has a very likable way about her. Saw her on FOX today, she was brilliant.

are you kidding? (0.00 / 0)
This woman gave absolutely no reason for supporting McCain other than she thinks Obama is elitist.  This, from someone who is literaly a multi-millionaire (I know that does not make someone elitist, but it does not put them in the ranks of the ordinary person either)?  She called the 'other people' "rednecks and whatever".  She is an embarrassment - I wouldn't ask for her support if she gave it for free!

no im not kidding (0.00 / 0)
You seem very angry about this. Firstly, she has given multiple reasons for not supporting obama in many other interviews over the last several weeks. It's actually about the party's direction AND Obama. I think most people knew this was coming from following it over time. I know she is wealthy, i mentioned it in my comment. You a said:

That statement depends on your definition of "ordinary" You seem to be implying that having money automatically precludes one from being an ordinary decent person. I dont ascribe to the thought that every rich person cannot remain ordinary in their personal  life. She was not born rich and she earned it. Good for her, the American dream worked for her and she worked for it. You seem awful angry in that post about her and it would appear your real reasons are that she now supports mccain. Would you feel differently if she supported Obama I wonder?

she put country before party, good for her. That's my opinion and I support her right to choose the candidate she has the most trust in. Just like I would support other people having the right to choose obama.

2 things concern me re: this (0.00 / 0)
1. Will she lose her position in the DNC because of this? We'll need her there for Hillary's run in 2012.

2. I don't want her giving $ to McCain. I want her to save it all for Hillary. :-)

hi Ohio: (0.00 / 0)
She very well my loose her position for going public with her voting choice. However, should Obama loose then she'd have no problems coming back with a healthy "I told you so!" And she can still donate all she wants to hillary, she has enough to spread around .  She may as well have gone for it publicly as she did. It would appear that the DNC is now making attempts to purge all those not in lockstep within the party. She may have been ousted anyway and I think she would have. Because when the obama campaign contacted her for money she wouldn't give them any. That made her a marked woman long before she went public for McCain

yes, it just shows her integrity (0.00 / 0)

thanks for the update, masslib (0.00 / 0)
I hadn't heard that. It makes sense though. I hope supporting a repub is temporary and that she'll still support Hillary.
