What The F*ck Is This Supposed To Mean?

by: masslib

Mon Oct 20, 2008 at 14:43:56 PM EDT

H/T

Joe Biden is brimming with machismo. He can hardly wait for our enemies to test Obama's "mettle". It's going to be just like John F. Kennedy, and he gets to be LBJ. This is so exciting. Finally, Joe's turn to prove he knows what to do to bring about world peace! Oh, but you might not like it. Apparently, Joe and Obama have a secret plan to handle the impending crisis, but you might think they are wrong. So here's the thing, Joe and Obama are going to need your help, and it's really not much to ask. Here's what Joe wants you to do: DO NOT QUESTION AUTHORITY. Oh, and ask your neighbors to do the same:

"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. "And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him - we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."

masslib :: What The F*ck Is This Supposed To Mean?

Excuse me?  Did Joe Biden just ask us to blindly follow Obama much as the public, with help of the press, blindly followed George W. Bush into disaster in Iraq?  How ironic that someone who praised himself on having "spoken out" against Iraq, is now asking us not to question his judgement when he does something we may not be smart enough to know he's right about.

This is getting a little too Orwellian for me.  I'm seeing comments all over the internet like "Obama is going to be tested.  I trust him."  You know what, this is not a game.  This is not a movie.  This is real life.  Does anyone think the press will question Obama after this charade of an election?  Does anyone think his cult-like following will?  I think the transition is complete.  The Left has become the Right.  The people who once questioned authority now question only those who question the authoritarian.  Congratulations, Democrats.  You found your own George Bush.

Oh great, a half assed, reverse October surprise (0.00 / 0)
They finally got the gift of the bad Bush economy that keeps on giving and they want to drag the public's attention BACK to terrorism?  Well, fabulous, now it will be Biden conjugating a noun, a verb and 9/11. If they loose this election it won't be because they didn't try hard enough. Next he'll be telling us to stock up on duct tape and plastic.

Remember when lefties said "Question Authority?" (0.00 / 0)
They used to say "dissent is patriotic" too.

But that was way back in 2007

Ah, the good ole days, before they decided they wanted their (0.00 / 0)
very own Ronald Reagan.  He "changed the trajectory" ya know.  And, everyone loved him.  He was so sunny and smart.  Like when he designated ketchup a vegetable for poor kids school lunch's.  Or, raised all our payroll taxes.  Or, had his wife and her astrologer finish out his term as he was nursing Alzheimer's.

it makes me sick (0.00 / 0)
and scared, too.  I still cannot believe that we let Hillary's calm competence slip away from us and have instead allowed this horrible nightmare of a charade to happen.  It keeps getting worse and worse.  (That is, we in the larger sense of the Democratic Party, not us here, obviously...)

obama's instinctive reaction is to avoid danger. (0.00 / 0)
remember the Moveon censure vote? the Kyl-Lieberman vote? they were scouring the Senate building looking for him, and he was hiding somewhere - maybe in a bathroom stall, I dunno.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

still, it's weird, kind of (0.00 / 0)
like, bring 'em on? And they wouldn't test John McCain?  I think Barack will go with the experts and professionals and not with his gut, but his gut does seem to favor thoughtfulness over cowboy revenge.

And how would we know? (0.00 / 0)
Aren't you the least bit concerned that not only does Biden announce we will have a crisis simply to test Obama's "mettle", but that we may reject the way he handles it, but hey, cheer him on anyway?  Time for a little critical thought, Anna.  That's simply too much to ask in a functioning democracy.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

I consider the source (0.00 / 0)
it's joe, mr. speak first.  I don't know what he means, other than the public might want quick revenge and Barack may do some diplomacy and let his experts and professionals do their thing (actually at this point it's Hillary's experts and professionals, but who's counting). The public usually wants revenge.  Kind of knee jerk. But it's just a weird statement, not necessary to say even if he thinks it's true, and not very clear either.  Joe did say though that Hillary would have made a better vp pick.  I mean, I like him anyway.   They're all creaming their jeans for Georgia, and so my opinion, which isn't exactly to cheerlead discord anywhere, isn't one under consideration, or so it seems.

Hillary - alternative energy

[ Parent ]
Anna, can you look at this critically, and not as a partisan? (0.00 / 0)
I get it.  Obama has wonderful judgment.  He's a peacenik.  Let's all lay our trust in him, because it's never Presidents who want revenge to prove their mettle.  It's us little people.  We asked for war in Iraq.  It wasn't sold to us.  We're too stoopid to support diplomacy or reason in an attack (which Biden all wants us to know is imminent).  I'm sorry, but I think we shouldn't be left to decipher what Joe means, and we shouldn't be asked to support it unquestioningly.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

that's what he's saying (0.00 / 0)
of course it was sold, but it was also purchased. but, I was just trying to figure out what he'd meant.   We had all our mistrust in bush and he didn't disappoint, not once.  We can't know what the Barack dude will do, but I can hope it won't be anything nutty.  I didn't support it, just tried to decipher it.  I mean, I do like Joe, he's hard not to like.

This also applies to BO's (0.00 / 0)
handling of the economy should he take the Presidency--- that is, more corporate welfare for Wall Street and a plan of austerity for Main Street.  Expect interest rates to sky rocket in a BO administration.  How else will his cronies on Wall Street recuperate their "losses"?  It'll be Jimmy Carter all over again.

I've been saying it for a while now, BO is the Left's version of GWB. Don't kid yourself.  He is the Trojan-Horse candidate.

So when Obama said that he would (0.00 / 0)

I agree completely! Obama sounded more hawkish than GWB (0.00 / 0)
in the last debate.  He doesn't support dumb wars, so what's a smart war?  So Biden says we don't have enough military to go to more wars but...who knows?  he doesn't tell us.  He does say Pakistan is swarming with terrorist and we'll see it up close.  But let's just trust, what bad could come of that?

they all sound hawkish (0.00 / 0)
Even our girl sounded hawkish, so what's that about?  They think the people need to have a hawkish president? And if they think so, does that make it true.

Hillary dispelled some myths, that a woman would have to be mannish to win a primary (we know she won, if we pay attention to votes).  I wonder if that's another myth, or it's fear that the pugs will be effective at smearing some candidate who doesn't say she or he is ready to fight.

His recent statement that one of his advisors would be Colin Powell doesn't (0.00 / 0)
give me much confidence in him going with the professionals.  Colin played a big part in enabling the war, and admits to not realizing that it could expand into a much larger occupation.  He went with Rummy thinking it would be over in no time, along with playing a big part in selling it to the world.  So, who he picks as the professionals is not an assurance to me that everything will go right.

[ Parent ]
And Susan Rice, who was essentially fired by Bill Clinton, (0.00 / 0)
and there's word of a role for Hagel.  So, I concur.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

[ Parent ]
Yikes. I forgot about Hagel. (0.00 / 0)
I like how he is cozying up to all these people, doing everything  but giving them positions outright in his administration, but doesn't ever mention considering Hillary when she is working her ass off for him.  I know that Hillary says she wants to stay a senator, but he could at least make statements showing he would like her to participate in his administration. Even if they are just fake statements. It's insulting to her and to us.

[ Parent ]
"...avoid danger." (0.00 / 0)
Is that another term for unprincipled fucking self-serving coward?  ;)  Yeah, I thought so.

[ Parent ]
So Joe Biden thinks that the rest of the world (0.00 / 0)
has so little on its mind that they are going to "generate" a crisis for Obama to deal with just to test his mettle?? What kind of an idiot is this man?? Does he really think that the countries and regions he mentioned have nothing better to do than foment problems to see if Obama is up to snuff?? Oh please..someone get me a barf bag!! This is the most mindless drivel I have read in this election, and that includes Obama's speeches. And Obama's speeches are mostly drivel.

And as for falling in line and backing up the empty suit, no thanks. He can fail on his own, he isn't taking me down with him. This is the most ridiculous attempt so far at "unifying" the country. We can't be scared any more, we are all "scared out" as a friend of mine put it. And if the next President doesn't come up to the standard needed, then we will get rid of him and get one who can.

The next Congress, which will probably be Democratic, isn't going to be in Obama's pocket. Why?? Because he didn't help them in the election, he kept his money in his own pocket. That means that none of them will have a political debt to him. They will have one, a good one, to the Clintons who showed up and campaigned for them. Even if they were alleged to be doing it on Obama's behalf, the lack of funds trickling down from the big war chest negates that premise entirely. So, there will be a Democratic Congress which has little political love, or any IOUs, to Obama. So Obama will have to go along with Congress or have his entire administration be one of little or no accomplishment. At least on his part. Congress will hopefully start getting things done, with or without the President's input.

Obama made a HUGE mistake in not supporting the down ticket Democratic candidates. And this fall in line or else speech from Biden isn't going to help. In fact, it will probably fall on deaf ears as far as the down ticket Dems go. Why support someone who hasn't supported you??

except I think that Obama (with the help of Pelosi) will go after --- i.e. intimidate, electorally challenge, harass, or defund  --- any down-ticket dissenter.

We ain't seen nothin' yet, folks!

[ Parent ]
You can't defund someone you (0.00 / 0)
never funded, which is part of my point. And don't count on Pelosi retaining the Speaker's gavel. She hasn't done anything to merit not being replaced in the next Congress. And Obama has already started harassing and trying to intimidate down-ticket candidates. It's not working well at all. Americans tend to get mad rather than intimidated. And since the newly elected Dems won't owe either Pelosi, Reid or Obama squat for getting them into office, they won't be able to control them once they get to Congress. What are they going to do, threaten to not fund their next election?? Yeah, that'll work for people who got elected without any help from them in the first place. Heh.

Weird (0.00 / 0)
Total WTF moment from my perspective.  Did Joe ask us to blindly follow BO?  Well, yeah, that doesn't surprise me much.  His whole campaign is based on, don't ask, don't question, just follow.

Anyway, this is one more reason that I'm finally doing what I've wanted to do for years (but failed to do because I was a good Democrat) - vote for a third party.  It's pretty ironic considering how I used to harangue some of my friends about the importance of voting for the lesser of two evils.  I was trying any way I could to keep them from voting for Nader.  Well, they can have a laugh on me, now.  From now on, I'm truly Independent.  That doesn't mean I'll be voting for Rethugs, because I won't, but it does mean that Dems don't automatically get my vote.

Sorry, diggins, I'd appreciate you not using that name in this thread. (0.00 / 0)

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

Palin is dumb (0.00 / 0)
or not very bright. She has shown no intellectual curiousity about anything or knowledge of the issues. She's real tough in front of friendly republican crowds & doing interviews with Hannity but that's about it. Peggy Noonan described her perfectly- she isn't a serious person but just says stuff to excite the fringe of the republican party. As for Biden it sounds like he's saying there will be some major problems coming up for the next president & telling the people at the fundraiser how great Obama is, how he might make decisions that are unpopular but stick with him blah blah blah. But you never know with Joe.

Peggy Noonan is (0.00 / 0)
down right creepy!  She has bashed Sarah Palin in the same way (i.e. with a phony soft and rational voice) she bashed HRC all these years.

The nightmare of Obama is GWB all over again!

...lawd lawd, those dimwitted Alaskans who elected her have given her an 80% approval rating, the highest of any governor in the nation.  Those hebitudinous hicks really need to lay off the moose meat.  It's made them plum thick.

[ Parent ]
Yeah.. she knows nothing about energy at all. (0.00 / 0)

She knows nothing about national security... she only has a higher security rating than McCain, Obama and Biden, she only gets more information than they do.

She knows nothing about cutting budgets or running a government.

Oh wait... Obama knows NONE of these things yet Sarah is dumb and inexperienced.

Oh, have I mentioned I can't stand Obama?

[ Parent ]
I don't think she is necessarily any "dumber" than anyone else. (0.00 / 0)
But she doesn't seem up to a world crisis at this point, like mostly everyone else isn't in public office.  Bush definitely wasn't, and we won't really know until something happens to prove it.  Palin's focus seems to be more local and focused on state issues.  I am not comfortable to have her anywhere near a world crisis, until she grows a lot in her knowledge and expertise.  She also seems like a hawk who would be willing to jump to war inappropriately in the fashion of a bunch of other rightwingers.

[ Parent ]
Fortunately, she's running for VP. (0.00 / 0)

Oh, have I mentioned I can't stand Obama?

reminds me of Dick Cheney in 2004 only Biden sounds like Cheney. Biden is esentially sayiing that if Obama is elected we'll have another terrorist attack.

Yup---that about sums it up. (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Good God! (0.00 / 0)
These people are frikkin insane!  Never has it been proved more true that power corrupts.  Biden apparently can't even hear himself talk.  These are Democrats?  Not of any stripe I can recall.  Biden apparently doesn't even believe in democracy anymore.

Can things get any more strange?

Yeah, (0.00 / 0)
both Cheney and Biden belong to the same hair club---that is, to the same hair-raising club!

[ Parent ]
Go read the rest of Biden's statement at No Quarter. (0.00 / 0)
"Gird up your loins!"  Holy Joe, quoting the Old Testament.

If Biden were a surrogate, he would quietly disappear from view. Since Obama made him his unfortunate choice of VP running mate, how's he going to shut him up?

Hint to Joe - for Democrats, the topic is the economy. Psst - if you change the topic to foreign policy and you know, terrorism, that will help McCain. Put that on a note card and keep it on the podium at all public speaking events. Or not, up to you.

Joe Biden, the October surprise. Just keep talking, Joe!

[ Parent ]
That is pretty strange. Sortof like a "bring it on" Bush statement. (0.00 / 0)
According to ME, we are already in a world crisis called the Iraqi war.  That one is enough to test anyones strength, intellect, and abilities.  The problem is that it is such an old, washed up challenge that we need a new one that sweeps in and challenges Obama like a lightening bolt, or something.  I generally am okay with Biden, but this was an incredibly stupid thing for him to say.

Given Biden's supposed bona fides in (0.00 / 0)
the international arena, isn't it especially strange for him to be saying crap like this?  Doesn't he KNOW better?

I still cannot figure out what the eff he thinks he is saying.  I do know it's alarming me.

[ Parent ]
I would think that he should know better. (0.00 / 0)
He was at a fund raiser, I guess, and sometimes I think that they feel like fundraisers are intimate situations where everything is confidential.  Like Obama made the statement about clinging to religion and bitterness at a fundraiser.  Now he says that that was the most boneheaded thing he has said.  I don't know if he thinks it is boneheaded because he got caught, and it hurt his campaign, or if it is because he truly doesn't think the things he said.  Anyway, Biden has this ability to say really stupid things that don't come out like he wants them too.  Maybe, if we are lucky, he didn't mean what he says in exactly the way he said it.

[ Parent ]
The boneheaded (0.00 / 0)
