We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

Obama's own voice may haunt him

by: NewHampster

Sun Jul 06, 2008 at 09:55:14 AM EDT

An excellent post today on Politico.com by DAVID MARK & KENNETH P. VOGEL.

Obama's own voice may haunt him looks at how Obama's Grammy award winning audio book, Dreams of My Father, will be sliced and diced for our listening pleasure.

Coming to an ad on your TV this fall are such wonderful snippets as:

I kept playing basketball, attended classes sparingly, drank beer heavily, and tried drugs enthusiastically... If the high didn't solve whatever it was that was getting you down," Obama intones, "it could at least help you laugh at the world's ongoing folly.

Or his inspiring re-creation of the first time he heard our beloved Reverend Wright.

In one excerpt from the audio book that Hewitt played on his show in March, Obama alters his voice to mimic Wright's, and repeats passages from a sermon decrying a society "where white folks' greed runs a world in need." Later Obama says of Wright's preaching, "I found the tears running down my cheeks."

Here's how one "expert" explains our elections for the ignorant (DNC) who still don't get it.

"Most people will only start focusing on this race after Labor Day. Most Americans don't give a rip yet," said Brown, who is perhaps best know as a creator of the independent expenditure Willie Horton ad that helped elect George H.W. Bush in 1988. "Most haven't looked at the issues. They don't know Barack Obama. It's all about delivering messages to those people during that moment in time when they're listening."

Ahh yes!  It should be a fun and enlightening fall.

Well then, that'll save me from having to buy the (0.00 / 0)
book.  But you know, if they quote him about his drug use, that will make them racists forever and ever.

The Electorate (0.00 / 0)
has once again been duped by the Corporate Media and a vindictive DNC. They did not want HRC because she would beat McCain and they would not be able to manipulate her. With a HRC Presidency, the Corporate Media and the current leadership of the DNC would be dead in the water. All the media would be able to do is bash her policies and look for scandals. Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, et al would be looking for jobs as lobbyists.
BHO is the perfect dupe and target. McCain will become the media "darling" and BHO will be the substitute for HRC. What fun this is going to be watching BHO hem and haw and back track to say what he really meant. The Republican 527's are going to have a really full plate. The NYT editorial is just the tip of the iceberg the SS Obama is about to strike.

You're Right, momcat. (0.00 / 0)
The media IS running the show.

But please tell me why the Dem leadership is willing to walk the plank for someone so patently unqualified.  What is it about Barack Obama that they feel duty-bound to shove down our throats?

Creeper, sorry I didn't reply sooner (0.00 / 0)
The DNC and Democratic leadership are scared witless of HRC because she cannot be manipulated. Dean, Brazile (especially Brazile), Pelosi would all be looking for other jobs. Not that I believe that Obama will not eventually replace Dean and Pelosi, Brazile will be the new head of the DNC if Obama is elected. I think that they saw Obama as the candidate they can "control" if he gets in the WH. I believe that they are now regretting their choice, except Brazile who is so in the tank with Obama. What they underestimated was HRC's appeal to the Regan Democrats, Middle America and progressives. They have alienated those demographics. Obama's lame attempts to appeal to the far right religious base of the Republican Party and his back tracking on FISA, abortion, etc. is going to blow up in their faces.

Hope they have that tape stored and... (0.00 / 0)
authenticated....you know "things" have a way of disappearing when it comes to Obama.  Surely there is room for some audio tape under the bus with the rest of us!!

I dunno (0.00 / 0)
It's a little crowded down here.  Maybe he'll move up to a monster truck or something, give us some breathing room under it?

[ Parent ]
Maybe he can have the thing raised on those giant (0.00 / 0)
tires - then he can layer us up under the bus.

What BO and Friends don't understand is that there's a great party going on down there (PUMA POWER!) and it's even more fun making so many new friends.

Just think what they're missing!

Re: "Tape Under the Bus" (0.00 / 0)
ROFL!  What a wonderful mental picture...a couple of reels of audio tape tucked safely atop the muffler, held in place with copious quantities of duct tape.

Yeah, we can find room.

His writing and story telling are too neat. (0.00 / 0)
I tend not believe autobiographical writing like that.  Too contrived.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

I think he lied about doing drugs (0.00 / 0)
to get street cred.

[ Parent ]
Hadn't thought of that (0.00 / 0)
makes sense too.

Not bloody likely (0.00 / 0)
He grew up in Hawaii, was a teenager in Hawaii. By sheer statistical chance, he's definitely smoked weed and probably done coke. Now, did he exploit that quaint, provincial drug scene that is teen-Hawaii for traditional AA drug experience street cred, even though his experience was not traditional? Probably. But he did those drugs too. You can bet on it.

I'm a Stantonian Democrat.

[ Parent ]
I can certainly see him doing it to fit in (0.00 / 0)
He likes to please whoever is the "in" group or power player - Rezko, Wright.

But this line is so square:

"If the high didn't solve whatever it was that was getting you down," Obama intones, "it could at least help you laugh at the world's ongoing folly."

High School kids don't get high because they're feeling down, they do it for fun.

[ Parent ]
Exactly. I think he's lying. (0.00 / 0)
But what do I know.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

[ Parent ]
No, but he wasn't a high school kid when he wrote it. (0.00 / 0)
And I don't disagree with you about his pursuit of street cred he never earned, ftr.

I'm a Stantonian Democrat.

Wait until they start with the (0.00 / 0)
Audacity of Hope tapes. And start pointing out that it was written during his term as US Senator. He didn't have the time to hold a meeting of an important committee, but he had time to write a book and read it for recording. And then they can point out that his visits to Kenya were not as portrayed in the book, he did visit relatives, but he also campaigned for his cousin, Dobinga, which was an abuse of the visa he had been given. The Kenyan government sent an official protest to the US government about the US Senator interfering in local elections. Funny how no one ever mentions that. But I am sure they will, soon.

The MSM barely reported that.

So says the latest how I came to Obama diary.

Oh good heavens. BARF! (0.00 / 0)

Sorry, catfish. (0.00 / 0)
MyDD is no longer on my reading list.

Beats the hell outta me how people who seem to be intelligent and thoughtful can suspend their critical thinking skills like they do over there.

You know what I wish?  I wish every one of these Obamabots had caught the fever four years ago when I did.  Then they'd be over the illness and ready to vote for a real Democrat.  I think there's one of those around somewhere.

[ Parent ]
Well I had a meltdown (0.00 / 0)
when I saw that piece of rubbish on MyDD.

Backtrack Obama will wiggle himself out (0.00 / 0)
That's not my voice that I knew.

ROFLMAO! (0.00 / 0)
In all seriousness, that may be part of the problem- he really does not know what he stands for- God knows he changes his mind every five minutes.

[ Parent ]
<sobering up quickly> (0.00 / 0)
It's really not funny if you think about it.  And you nailed it, PMM.  Obama doesn't know what he stands for.

What he knows is that he wants to be President of the United States and a bunch of really powerful people have told him he will be if he'll just toe their line.  They've made it easy for him.  He doesn't have to stand for anything so long as he doesn't make any really bad gaffes.  They'll cover for him...every waffle, every flip-flop, every abandonment of Democratic principles.

And when they have finished shoving him down our throats we will, if he wins, have four more years of incompetence in the White House.  We will also have one heluva time getting anyone other than hard-core lefties to ever vote Democratic again.

[ Parent ]
Wouldn't it... (0.00 / 0)
...be a copyright violation to use passages from a book or audiotape?

Not if they've already moved (0.00 / 0)
into public domain.  These audios are coming from a radio show that played them.

Obama's drug use should be of concern (0.00 / 0)
and there is some talk that he was still doing crack in 1999- regardless, having lived with an alcoholic, the addictive behaviour creates kind of a dual personality and many can be very charming con men. The cops always told me my husband was the perfect gentleman, after he had been picked up for drinking and driving and passed out on the side of the road, and I'd get a call to come pick him up at the police station. I would always freak out when a cop would tell me what a gentleman my husband was. I would tell them "That's not the man I know. Don't you cops ever check records? Does several domestic violent calls not compute?"

But socially he was a charmer but when under the influence absolutely the cruelest human being I've ever known. And seeing how often Obama flip flops, makes snide remarks or actions, using code signals, there is no way he should be president. No way! Sometimes Obama can barely speak without ums, and ahs and well I think you all know what I mean.
Have his medical records ever been released?

Hallelujah! (0.00 / 0)
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

All other things being equal I would still not vote for Obama because of that evangelical cadence in his speech.  I've had enough religion mixed with politics to last me the rest of my life.

Does anyone have a copy of Audacity of Hope?  Someone sent me this quote, and I want to verify it.  I don't have the book myself, but will get to the library later this week.  In the meantime, if anyone here now has the book, could you check this quote for me?  Here's what I was sent:

From Audacity of Hope : 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

Misleading e-mail: From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]: Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
