Words fail me, even though they never fail Ed Rendell, who's currently recovering from his "Napolitano has no life" gaffe, but still won't keep his mouth shut. Here it is from Politico...

Rendell: Matthews is the 'strongest Democratic candidate'
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell gave Chris Matthews a glowing endorsement for his potential Senate candidacy today, calling the MSNBC host the "strongest Democratic candidate without any doubt" in an interview on Bloomberg TV.
Rendell added that he doesn't "really know" if Matthews has made a decision to run yet. And he cautioned that Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) would be a formidable opponent because of his strong ties to independents and moderate Democrats.

Now, if only Rod Blagojevich would endorse Tweety, too...

Actually, there's a poll out which shows Tweety the strongest Democratic candidate, and only one point behind Arlen Specter, but it's commissioned by the Lord High Cheeto himself, so I'm not going to link to it. I hope the fix is in on that poll, and Pennsylvanians are smarter than that, but I'm hardly in a position to criticize; Florida has elected some real embarrassments to the Senate, including Paula Hawkins and Mel Martinez.

Let's hope that poll result is just the result of name recognition and nobody's thinking seriously about it yet; Specter's oppo research people would certainly be in a target rich environment if Tweety did manage to get the nomination. I personally subscribe to the theory that Tweety's just making Senate noises to help his prospects in his contract renegotiation with MSNBC, but with an ego that size, you never know...

C'mon, we're talking about a guy who attacked a damn fine Democrat with some of the most hateful and misogynistic BS ever. He gets a thrill up his leg listening to a guy who called any PA voter outside Philly bitter and clingy.

I dunno... maybe we should chang Tweety's nickname to "Tingles".

winning races. Rendell has been a good gov and he is a hell of a politician, but guys like him and Schumer who shoved Casey down our throat.... they can BITE ME if they think they are going to get tweety elected in this state.

Half the Democratic caucus consists of major league jackasses. We just had Daschle nominated to health care czar. The guy is an inept jackass and the health care plan he will produce will need emergency care.

Tweety has a chance to win over Specter who is half liberal and half worse than Bush. Rendall wants a Democrat in the Senate; Tweety is bad but not the worse. Tweety may suddenly remember that he used to be an aid to Tip O'Neal; let's hope.

Although I concede your point about the Dem caucus, koshem, I have to disagree that Matthews is not the worst.
He is in my book, and I'm no longer willing to support someone just because they have a 'd' after their name.

as a single woman myself, I personally didn't have a problem at all with Rendell pointing out Napolitano has more time and energy to give to her work. I've always thought that was a good selling-point for me. It's a good selling point for single guys too, so it's not really sexist. Obviously, since I don't have family responsibilities, the "24/7" thing is a lot easier for me. (although people toss the "24/7" thing around too lightly -- everyone takes time out to sleep -- so maybe "15/7" would be more accurate.)

What if there is someone else who wants to run as a Democrat? How does Rendell know that he would be the strongest candidate? Rendell is a jackass. I voted for Specter once before and swore I would never do it again. Now, I have to go back on my word. We already have one obnoxious Senator, Casey, now we are going to try for two. As far as the people of PA being smart enough not to vote for him,his viewership is what, about 500,000 on a good day? Most people have never heard of him, and wouldn't know what they're voting for.

Is Rendell nuts? Matthews made his TV career on the backs of Clintons and ridiculed Gore and Kerry during their elections and Rendell wants to reward him with an endorsement as the democratic nominee for the senate seat - this party no longer represents me!
