It looks like everyone has something to say about Blago's pick for BHO's senate replacement. The Chicago Sun Times reports that a few days before Blago was arrested, Harry Reid rang Blago to warn him off naming Jesse Jackson Jr., Danny Davis, or Emil Jones to the post because he feared they'd lose the seat to the GOP in the next go-'round.
Reid pressured Blagojevich not to appoint Jackson Jr. to Obama's U.S. Senate seat
...Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times. ...
Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero confirmed that Reid (D-Nev.) and U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) - the new chief of the Senate Democratic political operation - each called Blagojevich's campaign office separately Dec. 3. Sources believe that at least portions of the phone conversations are on tape.
True to form, John Cornyn is wasting no time in going after Reid for his efforts at influencing Blago.

Cornyn rips Reid on Blago calls
A top Senate Republican is criticizing Harry Reid's involvement in the Illinois Senate seat scandal, accusing him of meddling in the state's affairs by pushing certain candidates in phone calls to Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said Reid "has led the charge to deny the people of Illinois a voice" in the process. To be sure, Republicans like Cornyn would rather see a special election in Illinois because it would give the GOP a shot at capturing the seat.
Given the state of our economy, you'd think the fools on the Hill would quit their childish bickering and get to work cleaning up the messes left by BushCo. Apparently, they have bigger fish to fry. |
