We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

We're Known By the Company We Keep

I don't know about you, but this latest dust-up regarding Bill Richardson has been a sort of light bulb moment for me.  From what I've been reading, it wasn't Richardson's idea to withdraw his name from nomination as our next Commerce Secretary.  He got a lot of pressure from BHO's team.  Now is it just me, or does BHO seem quick to toss his friends and supporters under that bus of his the minute they become a problem?

Well actually to be fair, there have been a few exceptions.  He's stood by people who've caused problems for him, but even these cases don't speak highly of his decisions or choices when it comes to women and our concerns.  Scandal - or even a hint of scandal is reason enough for BHO to toss his friends under that bus of his unless that scandal centers around hateful or disrespectful words or actions toward women.  When you get right down to it, he has a history of standing by those who show a total lack of respect for women.

Make the jump for more...

Alegre :: We're Known By the Company We Keep
Take Summers for instance... the guy was quoted as saying some really vile things about the qualifications of women when it comes to offering them tenured positions at a university he once ran. Women objected to the inclusion of this pompous jerk in BHO's administration, and rather than make it clear that this guy wasn't under consideration, BHO stood by him all the way and has since named him to his economics team.  There's even talk of his being positioned to head up the Fed. some day.

Then there's Jon (The Groper) Favreau.  This twerp joked about sexual assault and even bragged about it on his facebook page.  We have pictures of it for Chrissakes!  And BHO's stood by this punk all the way because he writes his speeches for him.  Women hollered (well most women - I really don't recall NOW or any of the big groups objecting to this jerk working out of the Oval Office) over his possible inclusion, and we were summarily dismissed by those making excuses for this offensive behavior.

Rick Warren - the preacher who tells women we must submit to the will of our husbands and who would outlaw abortion if given half a chance, will be giving the invocation at BHO's inauguration.  Women and those in the LGBT community are up in arms over this guy's inclusion in one of the most historic inaugurations of our nation's history, yet BHO has ignored our calls to find someone more appropriate to stand next to him on that podium on January 20th.

Now we hear that BHO is pushing for Tim Kaine (an anti-choice former Governor of VA) to take up the post as DNC Chair.  If BHO thinks Tim Kaine is the most qualified person to take over as head of our party, he'd better think again.  This choice is a serious slap in the face to millions of pro-choice Democrats.  Dammit, BHO and his supporters all told us to think of the Supreme Court in choosing our next President.  They told us that if McCain got in he'd appoint enough Justices to overturn Roe.  A lot of women heeded that warning and went with BHO in November because they bought the story that Democrats - our party - that BHO himself stood by women when it comes to our basic human rights.

And now BHO's telling us he's ok with an anti-choice Democrat running our party?

A lot of people are getting tossed under that bus of his.  Richardson's just the latest to be asked to fall on his sword for BHO.  It's telling to note just who hasn't joined the others under the bus to date.

BHO's put together a pretty great team over all, but his refusal to jettison those who've shown serious disrespect to the women and girls of this land speak volumes about his priorities.  In appointing Kaine, he's hoping to attract anti-choicers to our Party.

But at what price?

Tell them BHO must find someone other than Kaine to head up our party.

OUR party dammit.  Women hold up half the sky and it's about time our concerns were taken more seriously by those who claim to stand up for us and our rights.

Actions speak louder than words.  It's time for BHO to put up or shut up where our rights are concerned.

Wowzer (0.00 / 0)
I just called and left a comment with this very nice young man at the Transition office.  He took down my comment and then asked for my name and my email.

I gave him my name but told him I wasn't providing my email.  He said they couldn't process the comment without collecting an email address.

How strange is that????

Ominous. If you had given your email, you'd soon be outed in some Youtube video.

Keep your powder dry, Alegre. Don't be coopted. We know the game.

Tim Kaine didn't even want the job (0.00 / 0)
We all saw this inclination to kiss up to evangelicals early on.

I hope the Repubs take this opportunity to became a party that is not so defined on abortion/Christianist lines alone. (Doubtful.)

yeah it's like Obama doesn't hear any complaints about the misogyny.

Adding Insult to Injury (0.00 / 0)
Unreal.  This guy doesn't miss a chance to diss women, does he?

You'd think a guy with two daughters would take on sexism and misogyny at every turn.

Why should he? I mean, for his daughters all (0.00 / 0)
he has to do to fix things is make a phone call. I am sure no one will want to diss the daughters of the first black President of the US. Too bad the rest of us don't have that advantage. And you know that's all that counts to Obama, how it affects HIM personally. If it doesn't..then it just doesn't matter.

Having daughters does not a feminist make (0.00 / 0)
fathers used to sell daughters into prostitution in the Wild West in order to settle debts. (And they apparently do that today overseas.)

I heard Billy Jean King once and she said the fathers who watched her play Bobby Riggs back in the early 1970s, these men tell her witnessing that match makes them approach the raising of their daughters differently.

But otherwise, men (and sexist women) just know what they know and won't open their eyes wider unless they have to.

Here it is: it's on his iPod, but he worries his daughters will hear it (0.00 / 0)
The candidate said he thought rap music was also helping to break down barriers within the music world. Indeed it was reported last month that Obama will make a cameo performance on the rap singer Q-Tip's next album.

However, he expressed concern over his daughters - Malia, nine, and Sasha, seven - listening to some rap songs.

"I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics," he said, "but I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music."

He said the hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and the rappers Jay-Z and Ludacris were "great talents and great businessmen".

"It would be nice if I could have my daughters listen to their music without me worrying they were getting bad images of themselves," he added.

Then don't have them on your iPod!! http://www.guardian.co.uk/worl...

..I'm happy. Misogyny by men is bad enough. By women it's even worse.

What did she do this time? (0.00 / 0)
She is really a piece of work!

he is defiant about his sexism (0.00 / 0)
he likes it and he is going to keep it.  No woman (except Michelle) is going to tell him what to do.
It could be latent resentment towards his mother or just the typical Macho bravado that permiates AA male culture.

Richardson was "stunned" at the quickness (0.00 / 0)
he was thrown under the bus! Just heard on CNN.

Karma, Bill, Karma. Couldn't happen to a "nicer" guy.

Indeed (0.00 / 0)
Sweet, sweet Karma. Bill was initially dissed when he was rejected for the SOS job (and for Hillary, to boot!) which he wanted so badly he could taste it. Sorry, you only get 30 pieces of silver with a betrayal, Judas, not a plum SOS spot!

Now he's finding out what it's like to ride under the Obama Bus. Ha! Paybacks are a bitch, aren't they??

This guy doesn't miss a chance to diss women, does he?

No. No, he sure doesn't. It's like he goes far and beyond out of his way to seek out new and boundless opportunities for misogyny, boldly going where no sexist has gone before.

well I would write to him and welcome him under the bus..... (0.00 / 0)
but he is a backstabbing weasel and he can find hiw own darn bus.
