| I don't know about you, but this latest dust-up regarding Bill Richardson has been a sort of light bulb moment for me. From what I've been reading, it wasn't Richardson's idea to withdraw his name from nomination as our next Commerce Secretary. He got a lot of pressure from BHO's team. Now is it just me, or does BHO seem quick to toss his friends and supporters under that bus of his the minute they become a problem?
Well actually to be fair, there have been a few exceptions. He's stood by people who've caused problems for him, but even these cases don't speak highly of his decisions or choices when it comes to women and our concerns. Scandal - or even a hint of scandal is reason enough for BHO to toss his friends under that bus of his unless that scandal centers around hateful or disrespectful words or actions toward women. When you get right down to it, he has a history of standing by those who show a total lack of respect for women.

| Take Summers for instance... the guy was quoted as saying some really vile things about the qualifications of women when it comes to offering them tenured positions at a university he once ran. Women objected to the inclusion of this pompous jerk in BHO's administration, and rather than make it clear that this guy wasn't under consideration, BHO stood by him all the way and has since named him to his economics team. There's even talk of his being positioned to head up the Fed. some day.
Then there's Jon (The Groper) Favreau. This twerp joked about sexual assault and even bragged about it on his facebook page. We have pictures of it for Chrissakes! And BHO's stood by this punk all the way because he writes his speeches for him. Women hollered (well most women - I really don't recall NOW or any of the big groups objecting to this jerk working out of the Oval Office) over his possible inclusion, and we were summarily dismissed by those making excuses for this offensive behavior.
Rick Warren - the preacher who tells women we must submit to the will of our husbands and who would outlaw abortion if given half a chance, will be giving the invocation at BHO's inauguration. Women and those in the LGBT community are up in arms over this guy's inclusion in one of the most historic inaugurations of our nation's history, yet BHO has ignored our calls to find someone more appropriate to stand next to him on that podium on January 20th.
Now we hear that BHO is pushing for Tim Kaine (an anti-choice former Governor of VA) to take up the post as DNC Chair. If BHO thinks Tim Kaine is the most qualified person to take over as head of our party, he'd better think again. This choice is a serious slap in the face to millions of pro-choice Democrats. Dammit, BHO and his supporters all told us to think of the Supreme Court in choosing our next President. They told us that if McCain got in he'd appoint enough Justices to overturn Roe. A lot of women heeded that warning and went with BHO in November because they bought the story that Democrats - our party - that BHO himself stood by women when it comes to our basic human rights.
And now BHO's telling us he's ok with an anti-choice Democrat running our party?
A lot of people are getting tossed under that bus of his. Richardson's just the latest to be asked to fall on his sword for BHO. It's telling to note just who hasn't joined the others under the bus to date.
BHO's put together a pretty great team over all, but his refusal to jettison those who've shown serious disrespect to the women and girls of this land speak volumes about his priorities. In appointing Kaine, he's hoping to attract anti-choicers to our Party.
But at what price? |
