We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

WE Have Hillary's Back. BHO's Fundraisers… not so much.

by: Alegre

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 00:20:09 AM EDT

River Daughter kicked off a cocktail hour at her place and boy did people turn out for it.  She included some big news in tonight's post.

I haven't been able to confirm this with anyone official, but word on the street is that we erased half of Hillary's debt with our fundraising drive on July 4th.  Check it out...

Diane tells me that our fundraiser last weekend helped Hillary reduce her debt by roughly half.  One more push like that and Hillary can stop being Obama's indentured servant on the campaign trail.  I say we go for it!  It must be giving Donna Brazile fits and the only thing that makes me happier is getting on Donna's Diss List.

Make the jump - there's more...

Alegre :: WE Have Hillary's Back. BHO's Fundraisers… not so much.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that BHO's big fundraisers have come up short of that - by a considerable amount as it turns out.

As Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton prepare for their first joint fund-raisers to benefit the Obama campaign, in New York City on Wednesday and Thursday, their two camps are straining under the weight of continued resentments, recriminations and feelings that remain raw since the long primary battle.

Mr. Obama has asked his top donors to help raise money for her debt, and so far they have come up with less than $100,000 (though more in pledges), Clinton campaign officials said - a "paltry sum," in the words of one.

Guys we raised millions in one day.  Regular folks - not high rollers or big donors.  We didn't hold big dinners that cost $30,000 a ticket.  We didn't go to lobbyists or special interests or big shots of any kind.

If anyone's going to release Hillary's from her debt it's us - not BHO's folks.  Who knows, maybe they like seeing Hillary in the one-down position while they hammer out what happens in Denver.  If we can come up with one more day of fundraising like this - maybe two then it'll free Hillary of her debt and she can negotiate with those jerks from a much stronger position.

Maybe someone among the hundreds of registered users here will come up with an idea regarding our next fundraising date.  What can we build that around?

Post your ideas and suggestions in the comments - let's put our heads together and come up with something brilliant eh?

Sore winners... (0.00 / 0)
Never seen anything like it in politics.

Sore Winners Isn't the Half Of It (0.00 / 0)
I didn't include the comments in that NY Times article - emails that the fundraisers had gotten in response to their request for donations.  Take a look - they're beyond sore winners.  It's so sad.

And they blame us for the divisions in our party right now.

Then I won't read it. (0.00 / 0)
I can't.  These people are fricken bizarre.  They are extremely lucky the DNC declined to give the nomination to the winner of the pop vote, the big electorals and the swing states.  First female would-be president no less.  They should be stepping over themselves to help Hill.  They should feel blessed.

We've gotta give those supers a nudge toward Hillary.

Over and over and over again if that's what it takes.

First thought (0.00 / 0)
that popped in my head was Bastille Day- July 14- another Independence Day. That gives us a five days to free Hillary from the prison of debt.

If it's corny- I am tired apologies in advance.

July 14th. Hmmmmm... (0.00 / 0)
Today's the 8th - ok the 9th (it's after 12 here).  Yeah that doesn't give us much time but we could always give it a shot and see what happens.

What do the rest of you think?

Bastille day has its attractions (0.00 / 0)
I googled around a bit and came up with a couple of important days coming up.  Here's my favorite:

First Women's Rights Convention, held at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY on July 19 and 20, 1848.

If you want to go into August:

In 1848 Susan B. Anthony was working as a teacher in Canajoharie, New York and became involved with the teacher's union when she discovered that male teachers had a monthly salary of $10.00, while the female teachers earned $2.50 a month. Her parents and sister Marry attended the 1848 Rochester Woman's Rights Convention held August 2.

Then there is the ratification of the 19th amendment:

The Nineteenth Amendment was specifically intended to extend suffrage to women. It was proposed on June 4, 1919 and ratified on August 18, 1920.

I'm sure there are more interesting dates.  It just depends on how much planning time you need.

Seneca Falls anniversary sounds best to me (0.00 / 0)
Hillary spoke as First Lady at Seneca Falls on the 150 anniversary. What better day to show our support for Hillary than the 160th anniversary.

There are a variety of amounts we could proposed as the target amount to donate:

17.76- in honor of the year of our Revolution and also the year Abigail Adams wrote these words to her husband John in all seriousness (he, as we know, ocked her words and dismissed them- something she reported unhappily in a letter to her friend Mercy Otis Warren, she was not happy that he took her serious words as being "saucy".)"I
desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation."

17.92- in honor of the publication date of Vindication of the Rights of Women, which was a strong influence on Lucretia, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the Grimke sisters and many other beginning first wave feminists. It was also the birth year of Sarah Grimke, who along with her younger sister Angelina spoke out on women's rights and abolition of slavery.

17.93- In honor of the year Lucretia Mott was born

17.97- In hour the year Sojourner Truth was born

18.15- in honor of the year Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born

1820- in hour of the year Susan B. Anthony was born

18.28- In honor of the year Frances Wright first made a public address on women's rights to an audience made up of both men and women.

18.37-Sarah and Angelina Grimke do a lecture tour on abolition and women's rights.

18.40- Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton attend the British World Antislavery forum with the husbands and not only are denied the right to speak, but to even sit in the audience with the men- they are made to sit behind a curtain in a balcony. This gross misogyny sparks the friendship of the women and the plans for a women's rights movement.

18.48- Seneca Falls

18.50- the year Elizabeth Cady Stanton meets Susan B. Anthony.

18.69- Women win the right to vote in the state of Wyoming

18.70- On March 7, 1870, when Sarah Grimke was seventy-nine and Angelina sixty-six, the sisters boldly declared a woman's right to vote under the fourteenth Amendment by depositing ballots in the local election. Along with forty-two women, Sarah and Angelina Marched in procession in a driving snowstorm to the polling place. They were jeered by many onlookers but, because of their age, were not arrested. The gesture did not change the law against women voting, but it did receive a lot of publicity and was for the sisters a final "act of faith"

18.72- Susan B. Anthony arrested for voting in a national election and takes the case to trial. The judge treats her with gross misogyny and violates her right to speak in her own defense. She is not allowed to speak until he pronounces her gulity.

19.20- 19th Admendment passes

19.72- in honor of the year Title IX passes

19.73- in honor of Roe v. Wade

19.77- in honor of the Fair Credit Act

19.93- in honor of Hillary Clinton becoming First lady

19.95- in honor of Hillary's speech on Women's Rights at the UN World Conference on Women "Women's Rights are Human Rights"

19.98- in honor of Hillary's speech at Seneca Falls

20.00- In honor of Hillary becoming senator from NY

20.08- in honor of the real winner of the Democratic party presidental nomination Hillary Clinton.

wow, what a great list! (0.00 / 0)
So hard to choose.  How about offering donors a menu of choices?

this is money in the bank (literally)... (0.00 / 0)
...in hillary's negotiations with obama. all he has to hold over her head is help with campaign debt relief. but he couldn't disguise his ambivalence in bringing it up with his big donors; he didn't even ask them directly. he just said he was contributing to hillary's campaign, and they could do so too, "if they were so inclined". no WONDER they sat on their hands.

let's see... hillary's lying in bed, trying to figure out where her loyalties lie... with obama, who squeezed out this tiny turd of funding, or with us, her PUMA supporters, who dug deep and put REAL money on the table. well, hillary's a smart woman. she'll figure it out.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

worse to worser? (0.00 / 0)
Barack truly has no clue, or he doesn't want to win the GE, one or the other. That was all he had to give, and he was soooo stingy. I hope beyond hope that her small donors get her debt retired. And not much time. Seems the only voters he is too good for are Democrats who want universal health and a competent administration? What does that say about him?

The Longer That Debt Hangs Over Hear Head (0.00 / 0)
The longer BHO holds power over her in those freakin' negotiations re Denver.

We have GOT to wipe that out if she's going to negotiate from a stronger position.  It should be one of our top priorities here folks.

HRC DEBT (0.00 / 0)
Hi Everyone-

I contributed on the 4th and am very happy to hear through unofficial channels that half HRC debt is wiped out. There is no doubt for me that if we all stick together, we will completely wipe out this debt.

I am ready to contribute for the next push when asked. Please let me know as to when so I can coordinate my contribution. Thanks River Daughter and Alegre for all that you do.

Dave

I'm for Bastille Day, but that's fine, too. (0.00 / 0)
Whatever works, I'll eke out another $5.44 or something along those lines.  (I'm a very small donor, I'm afraid.  Not much money here.)  Maybe if I'm really lucky I'll be able to match the $10.44 I donated on July 4.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

Public Opinion Day would be perfect!! (0.00 / 0)
Let the public tell the Dems who we want as a nominee, and who we are willing to support, with money and votes. I am about to go to Hillary's site and do two payments, one for $20.08 and one for $20.12. I hope she takes the hint..heh.

I'm so glad to read this, Alegre. (0.00 / 0)
Way to go, PUMAs, Clinton Dems, and Democrats-Against-Obama!  Yeah!  (Among other groups I know coordinating the big push on July 4.)  The Just Say No Deal coalition is working well.

I think the sooner we get Senator Clinton out of debt, the better off we're all going to feel.  And then we'll really have some leverage -- because we're doing all this fund-raising for her, and guess what?  We're not going to donate any of our money to Obama, ever -- and the DNC should know it by now (though we will keep telling 'em, and better yet, demonstrating to them this is so).  And worst of all from their perspective -- some of us, though not all by a long shot (not me, mind), will be donating against Obama and to John McCain.

DNC, this is it -- this is your last wake-up call.  Don't blow it this time.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.
