A SIMPLE REQUEST: Google Federal Reserve, U.S Treasury, GDP, Budget Deficit, National Debt

by: John West

Wed Jan 07, 2009 at 10:39:35 AM EST

I am up late, catching up on much needed reading after a much needed rest and time of reflection while visiting family and friends in the Pacific Northwest, and drank in the topography and forests of where I grew up.

My friend and fellow troublemaker, Michele Thomas, and I have never been able to figure out how 2008 happened.  Why?  What could explain the systematic collusion that was evident from the big money, big media, the DNC leadership, and foreign money to make sure a relatively unknown, unqualified, and Chicago style Hyde Park lefty became the 44th President?

It wasn't until Paulson and Bernanke allowed Lehman Brothers to fail, which prompted a "shock" to the world economy that jumpstarted Obama's polling and subsequent win on Nov. 4th  as well as the push from a very motivated Democratic party leadership to support any and all bailouts by authorizing over 700 billion dollars (we are already 10 trillion dollars in debt not including the value of derivatives that U.S banks and lenders have backed). This bailout was to be used so that the largest and therefore most financially bankrupt of our banks, like Citigroup, could use the funds to acquire smaller, less bankrupt companies like Wachovia, instead of using the "bailout" to help provide relief to homeowners and small businesses who have been cut off from credit or loans needed to get started, or survive.

Basically, our government and our elected officials, are using money from the Federal Reserve ( a quasi-public, private system of banks) to give money to the very banks that worked and lobbied hard for years to get the very deregulated situation that allowed for this complete meltdown and economic crisis.  Not to help Main Street, but to further accelerate the concentration of wealth and therefore power while creating a crisis of global proportions that leaves everyday people like you and me fighting one another for the basics: food, water, job, and shelter. We are in deep trouble if we don't all wake up to what really is happening here!  Gaza, Obama, Georgia, Palestine and India are all distractions, so that in full daylight, our dollar becomes worthless, unemployment skyrockets, martial law becomes an inevitability, and our banks are quickly acquired one by one until we have one huge giant bank, run by a group of people who are not democratically appointed. Meanwhile, a very human face and eloquent reader of the teleprompter, gives people hope they can believe in, perhaps some change...in their pockets, and breadlines thousands of people long that are "protected" for their own safety by a new civilian police, one of the few government agencies still active, funded and hiring.

Perhaps, all along, we the people who were fighting our own Democratic party, were missing the bigger picture, the bigger villain (or group thereof). The small share of wealth that decades of hardworking Americans (mostly immigrants with no money) managed to make, save and invest, or spend in pursuit of the American dream, has been pillaged. Their struggles and contributions (because of increased economic security and standing) are for naught, because starting in 1980, an entire country of people, its institutions, and businesses became completely dependent on credit to live/operate and having debt many times their annual income was not only the norm, but encouraged.

(there's more...)

John West :: A SIMPLE REQUEST: Google Federal Reserve, U.S Treasury, GDP, Budget Deficit, National Debt

2008, 1.9 million jobs lost...533,000 in November alone!  Holiday sales down over 20% across the board, and yet the "bailouts" and "economic stimulus" packages and "tax cuts" which really are "tax rebates" to those already not paying taxes, will vastly increase our over 10 trillion dollar debt and our current 555 billion dollar deficit.

What backs our dollar?  Not gold, yet indirectly it seems oil is since it is traded using the U.S dollar, just as most exchanges are. Funny that it was only when Saddam started to sell his country's oil in euros, that Iraq was invaded to liberate the Iraqi people from Saddam's regime and deliver Democracy to the Iraqi people in the form of a government that completely accepts the U.S standard of trading their resources.

The Cold War, it seems, really was more an invention that promoted an escalation of nuclear weapons in production, so as to create an atmosphere of fear among less armed nations of the world to adopt a U.S standard of exchange/trade for our protection from the alternative...Russia. Most chose the lesser of two evils.

I ask that everyone just spend a few hours, and read up on our Federal Reserve and Treasury.  Who runs it?  How are the chosen and by who?  When was it created, by who?  Look at their recorded statements and see how current members are tied to the those who put it in place. See if there is a link to their activity in the past and what world events that affected U.S and world economies around the same time, and how that affected their actions after. We know MSM will not help us figure this all out or even make news event out of it, except to feed us information that does little to alert us of this corruption. Please, consider and do some reading on this.

If healthcare and health insurance is your primary concern, then ask how we can fight for something for which there will be no money to fund it?

If women's rights and issues are your primary concern, then ask whether women and children are treated well in countries with a worthless currency, and depressed economy, high unemployment, homelessness, and food shortages? From what I understand, when a country descend into such conditions, whatever rights and protections and opportunities women had prior, has dissolved in every instance.

If making sure our democracy is upheld and preserved, and voters rights and protections are protected and honored are your primary concern, as it is/was mine, then ask yourself if an economic collapse and out of control unemployment provide ideal conditions for your cause.  From what I know, a government becomes more fascist in nature as the people they govern become very unhappy, and the government sees the people as a threat and enemy to be dealt with harshly.

We the people are a people who have been dissected and segregated into all sorts of "special interest" groups and opposing lifestyles, religious beliefs, affiliations, race and ethnicities, gangs and school, gender, and sexual orientations. Yet it is our strong economy and democracy which allow us to be whatever we each want to be or become. The promise, the dream, the true gift that countless millions of people have died fighting for, who have died to preserve it and evolve it to include all men and women of this great land since 1776, and the millions of people who died because they weren't so lucky as you or I to be born in a country that values the life of each citizen....are becoming nothing more than curious anomalies in the annals of history.

If we don't come together, as we the people of this great Republic of 50 sovereign states and put a stop to the Paulsons and Bernankes and their cadre of politicians who serve only money, then there will be no Democrat, Republican, independent, green party, civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, healthcare, education, peace and prosperity, or even religious tolerance for that matter.

There have been a lot of people warning of this for years, and most have been called crazy, nut cases, conspiracy theorists, and anarchists. Whatever was necessary to keep as many people as possible from hearing was employed, at whatever cost.

Do some reading. Research this not-public but rather very private and non-transparent, secretive and extremely powerful institution and ask yourself honestly if there isn't something deeply flawed about its existence and undue influence over our government and our lives.

First the British Empire now the U.S.A (0.00 / 0)
Interesting reading that discuss how the first central bank was in England and how it monopolized the new global trade market and insurance of that trade and made Britain become the world superpower. The members of this national bank and insurance institutions made sure a strong military encouraged the opening of markets and resources, whether by force or the threat of it, and by imposing tariffs and taxes once all trade depended on being insured by and with the British pound. Of course they got greedy as most parasites do, they don't know when to stop, and eventually destroy their host.  Their greed led to instability in the markets, (remember the tulip craze or should i say bubble?) and unrest, making the American revolution possible and victorious.

But where to go now?  The British empire was no more, and civil unrest and likely uprising and revolution in France and other parts of Europe would not be acceptable. Perhaps those damn colonists who now call themselves the United States of America?

Perhaps, perhaps....they'll need money to build that capital of theirs...hmmm. Yes, to America, that is where we'll go next.

I believe....but am almost scared to believe. (0.00 / 0)
Everything you say makes sense - and seems to me to be what I have seen/felt is happening.

On the other hand...it's hard for me to believe because my mind was short-circuited this past year.  I kept thinking that Americans would surely see through the ruse that is Obama and wake up.  But they didn't.  I have read so much bad stuff about him (and discounted 50% of it) that I find/found it hard to believe how he got elected.

Something is surely rotten - not only in Denmark but around the world.  And we are all sitting on our hands.  So few people are running and ruining things and yet the masses do nothing.

What can I, a single person achieve?

I'm tired.  I started protesting in the 60's and now that I'm in my 60's I have a hard time getting excited about things - particularly since 2008.

I guess I need an "outrage" boost.

(P.S.  I can't figure out how to vote in your poll....)

Reach out to as many people (0.00 / 0)
We need to get as many people together for this....and make sure you help encourage community where you live, so people stay together and work together.  I don't know, I hope we can discuss more so we can figure out what to do next.

This election was part of a large tide (0.00 / 0)
...of forces, and an irony that a candidate whose primary platform was "I'm awesome," capitalized on a wave that rebutted the Great Man theory of history. GOP votes fell from 37% to 32%. Dennis Kucinich might have been able to win this past November.

The GOP's vividly wrecked brand was in the mind of a few million swing voters when they imagined the GOP response to the financial crisis. Average Americans have been borrowing something like 20% more than they earn, and don't want the Republican prescription of a belt-tightening starvation diet, followed by killing the patient.

It's going to take a while to sort out what happened this election, but John's right that credit and deregulated finances played a big role. It's as if everyone knew there was a problem, but our creative class (the press, the party, et. al.) was incapable of a competent solution.

PJ...isn't John also suggesting/saying.... (0.00 / 0)
...that the powers-that-be (banking, govenment, press) were not only incapable of a solution BUT were the problem - creating chaos and then using it and timing it to the benefit of a smooth talking puppet who will keep on keeping on?

Probably... (0.00 / 0)
... and that dovetails with what I'm saying, that the people we expect to provide solutions, to be competent, weren't for a thousand reasons. They weren't impartial, they were blinded by craving for status, and their solutions weren't (selfish as they were) good for anyone, not even themselves.

If we look at Obama through this rubric, we might expect a particularly spectacular bubble-burst. Our major institutions were the problem, and they gave us Obama.

I've known for a while that populism was essential to counterbalance corruption of elites, but I think we lost our window of opportunity for a movement of regular voters to make a positive difference.
