Harry Reid "Extends an Olive Branch" With My Paycheck

H/T Texan4Hillary

Well, how nice. According to the Hill, Harry Reid will use passage of the Fair Pay Check Act to "extend an olive branch" to Senate Republicans, in the dreamy, wonderfulness of Obama's bipartisan spirit.

Reid again denied Republicans a chance to offer amendments on the first bill to hit the floor this year, a public lands bill opposed by Senate conservatives.

The Democratic leader made a peace offering this week, however, by allowing Republicans a chance to amend the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, legislation that would overturn a Supreme Court decision restricting equal-pay lawsuits that created stark partisan divisions last year.

The goodwill gesture comes as Obama calls for more cooperation in government.

So no bipartisan spirit for public lands but a little thing like a woman's right to sue her employer over equal pay issues, that's fair game for Republican efforts to weaken the law.  Thanks, Harry.

How bout we just trade Harry Reid for a few votes? (0.00 / 0)
Jeeze he is mess up city lately!

This isn't just a mess up. It shows Democratic priorities. (0.00 / 0)
He has the votes to pass the law, including a few Republicans, but he chooses to allow Repub amendments just I guess, so Dem's are not responsible for a law that really just clarifies  an earlier law that the SC misinterpreted.  Public lands must be better politics than fairness to women, at least to Reid.

a. "Public lands must be better politics than fairness to women, at least to Reid." women need to WAKE UP! Why is this so acceptable?

b. "He has the votes to pass the law, including a few Republicans, but he chooses to allow Repub amendments just I guess" this has Obama written all over it.

c. When will Dems (or Obama) learn that in negotiating you don't make concessions until you have to???

Tim Geithner must go (0.00 / 0)
No time for a diary but right now especially, we cannot confirm this guy for Treasury secretary. This is not politics, this is serious, he helped assemble the first bailout which did nothing, and he deducted his kids' camp costs from his taxes as an educational expense. He also was audited and paid back taxes only reluctantly.

How can Obama lecture us on responsibility when he is nominating this man to run our Treasury?

What can we do? (0.00 / 0)
That's legal that is . . .

Do? (0.00 / 0)
We can call the senate majority leaders office and demand that he freakin' LEAD on issues related to equality and fairness.  We can lobby - bug the shite out of our own senators and tell them in no uncertain terms that if they go along with this garbage will primary their ass with whoever comes down the pike.  Or work night and day between now and whenever they're up for re-election to make sure they never see another term in the senate.

Feck Harry. He can go to hell for this stunt. IF this is what we're going to get after working out butts off to elect more Dems then maybe we need to re-think our level of help and participation in Democratic politics.

Didn't Obama say he was going to sign (0.00 / 0)
this into law? Wasn't this one of the few bones he and his backers (Reid, Pelosi and friends) threw us?

I think we need to make more noise than just calling. Nobody seems to put much fire under the women's issues. We keep getting swept to the back burner. I can't believe he's going to open this bill up to the likes of Cornyn. Did you hear that man on Tuesday?

I think I'll skip Reid for the moment and go the media route. Starting with the women . . .

WTF is Reid to offer up my equality on a silver platter to the Rethugs?

This sickens my beyond belief.  We did NOT work our asses off to elect more DEMOCRATS to Congress so they could cave to the GOP on issues of equality.  We have control of the WH, the House AND THE SENATE and there is simply NO EXCUSE for their failure to fight tooth and nail to undo the damage caused by BushCo over the past 8 years!

NONE!

Screw you Harry, AND the lame-@ss horse you rode in on.
