Breaking! DNC Deadline of this FRIDAY re Debt

by: Alegre

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 01:54:38 AM EDT

Someone just confirmed that there is a DNC deadline of this Friday for wiping out Hillary's campaign debt you guys.

If we don't get this taken care of by then they'll use this to pressure Hillary re keeping her name off the ballot in Denver.  That means no real Roll Call vote!

NO WONDER BHO's donors dragged their feet in helping to wipe out this debt.  DAMMIT all they had to do is sit on their hands and the DNC would finish this off by ending all hope of an open and honest vote in Denver.  It's just like the revote in Michigan.

So here's the deal - we need to GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS on Thursday and Friday.  Take care of the last of that debt and tell Howard, Nancy and Donna (ESPECIALLY Donna!) go get stuffed.

D O N A T E  H E R E!

Spread the word - tell your friends and family what's at stake and ask them to help erase this debt now.  Once we get this taken care of we can focus on other things.  If you do one thing on Thursday to help Hillary it has GOT to be this.

I'll update as I get more information but please - do what you can and do it now.

T H A N K S !

C'mon Gang - Do What You Can! (4.00 / 4)
This should (hopefully!) be the last time we need to help Hillary with the 2008 campaign fundraising.

And remember to tell your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, the guy at the next table in the library or internet cafe...

Thanks!

DNC Debt deadline (4.00 / 3)
I will do what I can. It may not be much but I will contribute.  What's with the deadline?  Many Presidential contenders take months  (or years) after suspending their campaign to pay the debt.

You're correct. It's a ploy to use this as an excuse to keep Hillary off of the ballot in August.

This deadline is so BIZARRE! (4.00 / 3)
What the hell is going on?? Does anyone know if Hillary can be directly contacted by us about all this? I feel like the sky is falling. Seriously. What is going on in DC with congress and sanity?

Someone at NQ mentioned that Terry McCauliff announced on MSNBC that there was not going to be a roll call at the convention to save everyone from embarrassment??? WTF??

None of this primary etc., has made any common sense.
Obama as POTUS especially makes no common sense.

Maybe it's me. But this sudden departure from normal rules or a normal election cycle strikes me as a disaster...maybe there is going to be a serious event with Iran and the DEMS want to be ready with Obama for immediate take over?

What?!?! (4.00 / 1)
This deadline is enough (I thought we had until the first day of the Convention) but if McCauliff is on TV talking about there being no roll call vote I will freak out!

I donated as much as I could. I'm a student, and I'm not working right now, and my credit cards are almost to the limit, but I'll do anything for Hill.

check out riverdaughter tonight... (0.00 / 0)
..what the actual deadline is is up for debate (friday? tuesday?), but they're finalizing convention plans WITHIN A WEEK, and any additional leverage hillary gets by additional donations won't help her vis-a-vis the convention stuff. of course, heidi li contacted the campaign and they said there's no cutoff date (campaigns never tell you to stop sending money). they did say the faster they get it paid off the better.

don't worry if you're broke - your words are your contribution.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

What do you mean? (4.00 / 4)
How can the DNC impose a deadline?

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

Okay (4.00 / 7)
here's my receipt:

Contribution Details
Date: July 10, 2008 7:27 AM EDT
Contact: Marjorie
Kenosha, WI 53143
Amount: $20.08

I am on Social Security and this is my second contribution in this amount this month. For me it means that this month I will not order any books from Amazon, my monthly treat to myself, and I will not buy any fabric to make shopping bags, another favorite activity.

I am not including details because I want anyone to throw me a pity-party. Don't need one, Don't want one.

What I am trying to say, in my own clumsy way, is if the action hurts, just a little, the commitment may mean a little more.

Or maybe I'm just full of crap. Whatever. I came, I went and contributed, and now I'm going again.

No pity party (4.00 / 1)
But you are without a doubt an inspiration!

On cspan I heard that if the US was in a crisis (4.00 / 1)
the standing president (Bush) could call off the election and stay in power another 4 years. Anyone know about this clause in the constitution? I never read that or even heard about that before.

Maybe the Dems in congress know this and are trying to finish off this process faster??  Just trying to make sense of all this crap. Anyone got an answer?

rose, (4.00 / 3)
it's not a clause in the Constution.  It's National Security Presidential Directive No. 51.

Gov't Continuity (4.00 / 3)
I didn't know about this, Creeper. Thanks for posting. It puts the bubbling up with Iran into a new and very troubling context. I wouldn't put it past the Bush Administration to start a (nuclear) war with Iran, provoke an attack within the United States, just to hold on to power. I'm all for planning and preparedness, but in the wrong hands (Bush's) this is troubling indeed.

Blackmail (4.00 / 8)
is illegal. This is community organizer Obama at his Chicago best. He may can try to blackmail Hillary but he is going to have some problems blackmailing all of us.

We want her name entered at the convention and her huge number of delegates permitted to vote in the name of those who sent them to the convention. And if Howard Dean says again that anything traditionally done at Democratic conventions, LIKE VOTE, cannot be done because it would embarrss the nominee, I think we should find some ways to really embarrass them. Like send the Obama campaign paper party crowns. I am starting to think Obama is a child.

Wait a Minute!!! (4.00 / 5)
Alegre, are you saying that the DNC has determined Hillary's debt will keep her off a roll-call vote?

WHATTHEHELL is the connection there???

I am (4.00 / 3)
going to take your spread the word line as permission to steal this post and put it up at my Eons group (with a link back of course!)

I think you are wrong (4.00 / 4)
It is a federal election guideline and has zero to do with the DNC or whether she can be put in nomination.  Many nominated candidates in the past have taken years to pay their debts.

I don't know the exact rules or where to look nor do I have time.  I think the date has to do with a cut off of raising monies targeted to the primary rather then the general.

Retire Hillary's Debt! (4.00 / 3)
Here is an update from HeidiLi's blog. She e-mailed Mantz Hillary's finance director. See this link here:

Debt (0.00 / 0)
Thanks, navyvet48.  I think the deadline is just a lot of spin.

[ Parent ]
the "DNC" and "Friday" parts may not be accurate.... (4.00 / 2)
heidi li referenced a push from hillary's finance staff through july 15 (next tuesday) to try to raise enough money to pay off the debt - probably not counting the $11 million of hillary's money she put into the campaign. there are multiple reports that about half of that was covered by donations through the july 4th "$20.08 for hillary" blogger campaign.

here is what hillary's finance director, jonathan mantz, emailed back to heidi li:

Jonathan Mantz Thu, Jul 10, 2008 at 9:12 AM
To: heidi

No real closing date, we are trying to put a dent into this as quickly as possible. Although the response has been good so far, we have ways to go

Pls keep up all you are doing

regardless of whether or not it's the DNC setting this deadline (if it exists - that is, if the DNC still exists or has been absorbed by the obamaborg), or whether the deadline is friday or tuesday or never, the basic facts remain:

1) hillary is in negotiations with the obama/dnc entity over her role at the convention
2) her debt is being used by the obama/dnc entity against her in these negotiations
3) the faster she's out of debt, the better her bargaining position with the obama/dnc

so, the official word from jonathan mantz is:

Pls keep up all you are doing

if you can't get to any loose money by friday, send it in this weekend or whenever you can. time is of the essence. july 15 is also a date being kicked around for finalizing the convention proceedings that hillary and the obama/dnc are negotiating. if she's still behind the eight ball financially on that date, she won't have the mojo necessary to be at her strongest in these negotiations.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Hey folks (4.00 / 4)
I've given till it hurts, even spending funds we're using to move with this week and next to her campaign. I simply cannot afford to give more. But I am raising money for her. I was raising money to go to Denver, but I've suspended that campaign and will give everything I receive via the Paypal Donation link on my site today and tomorrow to her campaign. I'll be posting proof on my website afterward.

There's also a handy little history lesson on the 19th Amendment at my site. If you have a chance, please take a look at Target the Date. I'm too lazy to cross post it here. (A LOT of formatting on this one...) And feel free to promote it if it moves you.

I'm a Stantonian Democrat.

Giving til it hurts (0.00 / 0)
is an inspiration Anna Belle. Your great writing is also a constant inspiration. As is your dedication to democracy. Keep it up.

We always knew there were Democrats willing to fight for what they believe. It's just sad that so few of them are in the House or the Senate. We need to do something about that.

Move over netroots, who mostly sold-out, and make way for the real GRASSROOTS.

PUMAcrats are Democrats that believe in the constitution and democracy. We need more PUMAcrats!
