Kos Disgraces Himself Again

by: masslib

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 11:57:30 AM EDT

Kos apparently is not only the greatest liberal blogger EVA, he's also clairvoyant.  In an effort to diminsh Hillary's noble vote yesterday as well as her honest assessment of the FISA bill and why she could not support it, he writes:

Regarding Clinton, I have no doubt she would've voted incorrectly were she the nominee. She's shown over the past few years that on every controversial "national security" bill, she has voted incorrectly, whether it was the Iraq War authorization bill, the Kyl-Lieberman Iran bill, or plenty of war funding bills. It's easy to vote the right way when you don't have advisors telling you to "take issues off the table" by betraying things like, you know, the Constitution.
masslib :: Kos Disgraces Himself Again
How on earth could he possibly know without doubt an unknowable?  Sorry, dude, we can only examine votes cast, not imagined votes under imaginary circumstances.  As for voting "incorrectly" on every so-called controversial "national security" bill, let's examine those sited and see where Obama and Clinton line up.

1) AUMF- Hillary voted for the authorization to use military force.  Obama was not a Senator at the time.

2) Kyl-Lieberman- Hillary voted for it, along with Dick Durbin and 74 other Senators.  Obama skipped the vote.

3)  War Funding Bills- Clinton and Obama share the same voting record on all funding bills since Obama entered the Senate.

My point is, I'm not sure what Kos's point is.

While he marks Hillary as "no hero" on this, he chastizes Obama for "capitulating".  But capitulate means surrender, and it is my understanding that Obama agrees with the bill, so it's hard to argue he surrendered anything.

Kos goes through a bit of tortured logic on his hallmark Clinton complaint, "triangulating".  He says of Clinton:

If this marks the end of the triangulating version of Clinton, so much the better. That'll make her that much better a force in the Senate.

He says of Obama:

But at the end of the day, he's a politician, with all the triangulating goodness that's become a hallmark of our presidential candidates.

Clinton triangulating=megabad.  Obama triangulating=part of running for President.

Here he's being clairvoyant again:

He's a gifted and inspirational politician, no doubt about that, and he will make a great president.

Hey, if you say so.  I tend to doubt it.

He goes on to discuss the reprecussions of Obama's vote:

That has cost him some intensity of support, some bad headlines, a new avenue of attack for Republicans (even though McCain didn't even bother showing up for the vote), and ... renewed energy and sense of purpose for the ridiculous PUMAs. That last one is really fucking annoying.

That last one is really fucking great.

Be one an Obamabot or Kosmabot being (0.00 / 0)
"Present" seems to be enough to qualify as a POTUS..

They all speak out of both sides of their mouths and I'm sick of both of those phony guys-Obama and Kos.

bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!! (0.00 / 0)
the AUMF vote??? obama was a state senator. he couldn't vote.

the Kyl-Lieberman vote? obama hid out in the bathroom so he wouldn't have to go to class.

the war funding bills? they both voted for every one of them. bush was holding the troops hostage - let me keep my war going, or the troops get it.

well, even poor kos has to admit- yesterday was a great day to be a PUMA. and no, obama won't refund all that allowance money the obamazoids sent him. they got played.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

He seems to be in the bathroom a lot. (0.00 / 0)
He was in the bathroom for 20 years whenever Wright was saying anything nasty (let's not kid ourselves by calling it controversial).

Perhaps, he too has the IBS.

yeah, he ducked the moveon censure vote too.... (0.00 / 0)
...leaving hillary to take on the republican demogoguery alone.

you know how the russians got the egyptian pilots to learn how to fly all the planes they were giving them in the 1960s? the egyptians would eject whenever they stalled out or got squirrely, splashing 10 million dollar planes all over the desert... so the russians took the ejector seats out, and told the egyptians, "now fly, mother f*****s."

obama thinks the presidency has an ejector seat. actually, it does... ask richard nixon.

Obama proved yesterday that he listened to Rev Wright (0.00 / 0)
"God damn America!"

So much for freedom and the American way.

Well, he certainly is practicing what (0.00 / 0)
Jermiah Wright preached.

Annoying? (0.00 / 0)
Well that means we are doing something right and making progress!
Perhaps the Kos is annoyed because PUMAs take action every day and we don't just go to KOS type places and whine?

Got my PUMA action for today- re: the Texas delegates. Whoo-Hoo- I am on it!

A bit of History, (0.00 / 0)
Markos started the Clinton bashing on his site by his own May 26/2006 article in Washingtonpost, and then starting it by the stupid .."Clinton Pulls a Cheney" post.  I don't even remember the content of the latter, and I never click on that stupid site anymore.  What I remember is reading it, excepting a major capitulation from Hillary, and all I saw was swiftboating and shilling from Markos (I guess books have to sell, and babies trust fund established, and guys like Markos need their TV appearances and approval from the likes of Bill Maher, like a fish needs water.)

So he wasn't a victim of Obama blog-astroturfs descending upon his blog; he encouraged it every step of the way.

Kos, how does it feel to have been screwed?

I agree with you on the other aspect too.  In fact I wrote a comment on Taylor Marsh site that, as much as I like her and Big Tent Democrat, they both don't want to admit this to themselves:

Obama didn't capitulate on FISA bill.  He delivered.

If they think a politician from nowhere who raises $260 million dollars is not beholden to special interests, they are being intentionally ignorant.

You and I are in total agreement on this. (0.00 / 0)
It's so obvious a blind man couldn't miss it.  He delivered.

yep. kos picks another "winner". (0.00 / 0)
kos wants to be a player, and so he got played.

you can't cheat an honest blogger... digby comes to mind. but a greedy one? heh! spit that hook out, kos.

KOS Can't Accept the Truth. He got played. (0.00 / 0)
Well KOS is certainly making himself into a pretzel. Trying to explain how his chosen candidate could turn on a dime and demonstrate over and over that he is not the "progressive" "leader" that KOS thought he was.

How can a person with no known core principles ever be a great leader? How can someone who speaks out of all side of his mouth be a great president? How can someone who obviously wants to please everyone, all the time, ever be a great president.

But KOS and his ilk can't stand the dissonance (a psychological term). They can't take believing different things so they justify and make excuses for Obama using twisted logic. Otherwise they would have to face the fact of their mistakes. It is so much easier to use fantasy and pretend that things are as they would like them to be.

How childish and sad.

this is the same guy (0.00 / 0)
who thought it wasn't fair to Barack to assume that had he been in the Senate when the WA vote was up, he would have taken the principled stand?

I'm in the minority, I know, when I maintain that Hillary was principled on that war authorization, because she could tell there were no WMD and that if the inspectors had been allowed to stay there would have been no rationale for Bush's war of choice.

I also said that her K-L vote was to give a signal that as the future president she would take Israel's fears seriously, which positioned her to made demands from both sides in that never ending conflict, rather than have to keep pandering to the right wing in Israel because she was weak on support for the continued existence of that state.

Look what Barack felt he had to say to assure Israel, and now he wonders why Europe isn't as fascinated anymore, may not want him at their most famous site for freedom and justice.

He's not just clueless, he's unprepared to lead.

I agree with you, anna (0.00 / 0)
but then reasonable thinking people understand stuff like that, kos & kids don't.

Just one more reason to be glad (0.00 / 0)
that I'm no longer a Kossack.   What was once a vital site for activists has become a sad circus, with Markos the chief clown.

yeah, obama can't afford support like kos'... (0.00 / 0)
joseph cannon has an interesting premise - kos created the PUMA movement.

if kos and other netroots sites had been as inclusive of hillary supporters as they were of edwards supporters, goldberry and alegre and the others would still be blogging away on the main sites. instead, they branched off, set up shop... and the people came. the movement was in place and organized when the 5/31 RBC Committee travesty happened... because the obamazoids had run them off the other sites.

there's nothing more dangerous than women who start thinking for themselves, right, kos?

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Long ago I took the quiz that Jeralyn (0.00 / 0)
had at Talkleft about where the candidates stood on issues.  I came out Edwards, Clinton, then Obama.  Edwards soon after dropped out and I simply followed the "real" logic and stuck with the candidate that represented me best.  When the misogyny hit I remembered thinking to myself that our first REALLY SERIOUS female candidate cannot be allowed to "lose" this way because my God, they were going to set our daughters back 20 years in their search for equality if it was allowed to happen that way.  Many of my past blogging friends became dispicable to me as well as they jumped on the misogyny train.  It was really terrible but the candidate Clinton truly weathered the storm and in doing so earned my deepest respect while not allowing our daughters to be stripped and laid bare as they wished to do to her.  She had already earned my husband's in an Ireland airport on her way back from visiting Iraq only eight months into the super sucky situation.  She took the time to speak to him fully and look him in the eye.  He already loves strong women but that conversation signed on the dotted line some deal for him.  He claims he purposefully approached her to meet her that day for me.  What is real is real though and created reality in the orange bubble is no different than the created reality in the bubble of redstate.  Markos has the same credibility in the real world these days as the creators of RedState.  I did my best to embrace party unity inspite of it all.  When Democrats decide to Fuck the Constitution while soldiers die and die and die some more every single day we are at war though.......party unity my ass and Markos can take his crystal ball and stick it because she voted NO.  In the real world where real people live and die it really happened yesterday that Hillary Clinton voted NO on the FISA bill that Obama voted YES on.  Party Unity My Ass Kos.........you went to great lengths to help create as much mindless adoration of Barack Obama as you could buddy and mindlessness and politics are not good bedfellows.

What an excellent comment, Tracy. (0.00 / 0)

is annoyed, poor baby. The PUMAs are ruining his man crush on Obama. He's just jealous because he would rather be a PUMA than a sucker, sucking up to a complete fraud.

He'd be my first pick if I were leading a team in team twister.

really, I had a UID of 11,000 something and I was kicked off for not playing nice with the likudniks.  They finally annoyed the shit out of me.  I cared about the site, there used to be some brilliant bloggers there.
But recently the place is a just a cesspool and the thinking on Obama/Clinton is just idiotic. Kos is responsible for that and it amazes me that people actually think the way he does about Clinton, her imaginary "triangulation" etc.  Hillary haters are brainwashed and interestingly enough kos brainwashed even himself.

Blogging was a novel idea when Kos (0.00 / 0)
took that big step.  He has since missed several other steps that will enable him to remain long term relevant.  Such is life.  What can I say, I'm a capitalist, now onward to Krugman and Greenwald.

I am just so glad I found (0.00 / 0)
this corner of the universe.  I had gotten so angry I just quit all blogging after I left kos. I could not stand the lies and spins there and on Huffpo.  Occasionally I stopped back at both places and left my 2 cents for some particularly obnoxious bloggers.  And I also let Ms. Huffington, as well as Jonathan Alter know how I felt about their nasty need to trash Senator Clinton, and that instead of journalists they sounded like nasty, resentful gossips.  Alter e-mailed me back and said simply "Sorry you feel that way."

I do not get how these people from kos, to Alter, to Huffington can look in the mirror and know how dishonest they are.  But then, I am sure kos is itching for a gig in the Obama administration.
