The Obama campaign is looking at sponsoring a NASCAR race car for the Sprint Cup.
According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3. Details of the agreement are expected to be worked out over the coming days
Can you say "pandering"?? What, he thinks all those good ole boys are going to vote for him because he sponsors a car?? With campaign funds?? Is this what the little donors had in mind when they donated their money to Obama?? Or is is some weird form of fundraising? Will the campaign get part of the purse if the car wins? Or just a photo op for Obama in the winner's circle?

Here is more on the fundraising..
Racing sources claim one of the options being considered would allow individual campaign donors to get their name on the race car for as little as $100. Obama will also be present for a second private fundraiser on July 30 in Miami, in which team owners Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau -- staunch Republicans -- will give the Democrat an opportunity to spread his message of change. Randy Moss and Fergie are among the celebrities confirmed to be a part of that fundraiser in support of the candidate and his venture into NASCAR.
So will that be a raffle too? The majority of NASCAR fans are Republican, so is this one of those "reach across the aisle" moments"? Well, at least the car fits into Obama's own experience profile..heh.
Ken Schrader will drive the entry, a Toyota, at Pocono for BAM, which is outside the top 35 in owner points and must qualify for the race on speed. The team has run just once since Martinsville due to sponsorship concerns, and has just six top-10 finishes in 167 career starts in the Cup series dating back to '02.
I am just amazed at the simple-minded tactics that his campaign ends up using. Do they really think the American people are that stupid?? Well, it is a change.. it's the first time any presidential candidate has sponsored a car. Bush was featured on one car a few years ago, but that was the driver's doing, not the GOPs.
I have an idea..let's dispense with elections all together!! The candidates can each sponsor a NASCAR car and which ever car has the most points at the end of the NASCAR season, the sponsor gets to go to the White House for four years. Yeah, that'll work. Heh.
Update
Here are some comments from the CNN wire.. amusing..
Finally a reason to watch grown men turn left for 3 hours!
Well at least this time, Obama will be using a race car and not a race card!
Will he drive too?
I don't think that sponsoring a Toyota was the best pick. They are the only foreign manufacturer in NASCAR so it seems a little odd of a choice for Senator Obama to make.
What's next....Obama for President on the trunks of WWE pro wrestlers? |
