We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

$300 Million by Mid-October? (Updated)

by: Alegre

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 23:37:56 PM EDT

Today's Wall Street Journal reports that BHO's camp wants to raise $300 million in general election funds by mid-October.  That's an awful lot of money, and my first thought was wow - does he think working folks like us are made of money?  I mean he's already raked in about $287 million during the primaries and now he wants another $300 in the next 3 months?

After mentioning that BHO pulled in $30 million in June (so much for that $100 million they were aiming for) the WSJ goes on to say

While this isn't a poor showing, it is an underwhelming haul for a campaign that has ballooned in recent months, has promised a true, 50-state electioneering effort and has told its biggest fund-raisers that it wants to collect $300 million in general-election cash by mid-October.

I think we all know that money's not going to come from folks like us.

$300 million - sure blows the money he would have gotten if he'd gone for public financing right out of the water eh?

But it had nothing to do with his decision to skip that cash and the spending limits that would have come with it right?  The system's broken blah blah blah... not what it used to be blah blah blah blah...

If you belive that make the jump - I've got a bridge you might be interested in buying.

Make the jump for the update.

Ok I Was Kidding About the Bridge (0.00 / 0)
But not about the MASSIVE amounts of money being spent on this election.

I mean seriously - think of all the good that could be done with that kind of cash.

It's just gross (0.00 / 0)
how much money they want to throw away to try to get this guy elected. Between the stadium, and now NASCAR, I am appalled.  We're democrats for cryin' out loud.   We're supposed to be spending big money on education, social programs, and the environment. What gives?

If I read the article right, he's going to sell off the opportunity to have your name ON the Toyota for $100 a pop.

and flopped on that one ;-)

Those public financing dollars are probably looking pretty good to the BO camp right now.

He wants a stadium ($3 mill) a NASCAR, and no spending limits (0.00 / 0)
so we're supposed to give him money for all of this? All in the same week as the second-biggest bank failure in history.

Does he read newspapers?

I Saw That NASCAR Bit (0.00 / 0)
Is he really looking to back a TOYOTA car?

My jaw dropped when I saw that.  How stupid is his team?  They couldn't have found an American car to back?  One that was built in oh... I don't know - D E T R O I T ?

He really must hate Michigan.  Considering that he hid from the voters in my home state not once but twice and got 59 delegates that he never earned thanks to those crooks on the RBC - you'd think he'd be bending over backwards to win over the voters in this key state.

And today CNN has a story about a man (0.00 / 0)
who had to give up his health insurance to buy gas. I guess Obama doesn't give a damn about that, after all, he has the Senate health plan so why worry?

I hope he doesn't have any ongoing health problems.

My dad had his coverage canceled over a 2 cent shortfall a few years back and he had all kinds of health problems.  He died at the age of 61 when his sick heart gave out.

There's no excuse for that in our society and in makes me furious that these fat cat pols don't even act interested in helping us get to UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE.

Hillary's not only interested - she's driven when it comes to helping us.

THAT'S THE KIND OF LEADER WE NEED!!!!

More bad news (0.00 / 0)
Oil climbed to new record above $147 a barrel and gold hit a 4-month high. The wealthy think that America is just a nation of whiners in a mental recession, which is why there is such a huge disconnect between the people and the politicians.

But We're All BITTER and Cling to Stuff (0.00 / 0)
At least that's what BHO says.

Or wait - this week we're all angry white old women who are pissed about the sexism yada yada yada.

It's always something or someone else - NEVER has anything to do with the fact that he's not ready to lead and even if he was, there's no way in heck he's going to win in Nov.

Supers (!!!!) listen up.  Send up Hillary guys - she'll beat McCain AND has what it takes to fix the stuff Dubbya broke.

obama is jonesing for hillary's rolodex. (0.00 / 0)
all the small donors are out of money - literally. obama needs big donors who aren't maxed out on him, and there aren't many left. as i've said before, he's running a primary campaign in a manner which guarantees that he'll lose the general election. such a waste of an opportunity.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

There Are So Many Reasons He'll Sink Come the GE (0.00 / 0)
I've never seen a candidate with more baggage, and now the flip-flopping, NASCAR (toyota?) and this.

I'm curious... (0.00 / 0)
I wonder how much his June fundraising dropped off after he decided to forego public financing?  I wonder if the latter half of June was as "robust" as the first half? Of course, we haven't seen June's numbers officially yet. I wonder what's taking them so long? In the past they would start crowing about each month's numbers immediately. This makes me think that he didn't even raise 30 million.

And they think they can raise 300 million in three months? They must be smoking some heavy-duty hopium at Obama HQ.

funny, (0.00 / 0)
if we found out some of that 30 million is general election funds!!

They either have had very good or very lousy fundraising numbers in June.

[ Parent ]
Oooh...I didn't think about that (0.00 / 0)
Are the funds designated for the GE? Does it matter? Does it all go into the same pot? I would assume so. The only stipulation is that those who've already maxed out for both primary and GE dollars are stuck, right?

I maxed out to Hillary. Obama isn't getting a dime from me. I've never, ever done that for a candidate before, and will not do it again (unless, of course, that candidate is Hillary Rodham Clinton).

[ Parent ]
I tend (0.00 / 0)
to think lousy. It seems to me that if he had a good month he would be crowing it immediately. The way I've been constantly called by them and other organizations I would imagine that it wasn't very good. After all, if the money is rolling in, they would need to be calling me once or twice a day would they?
