New Hampshire Women Make Herstory

by: Sharyn

Mon Feb 16, 2009 at 15:30:52 PM EST

This was going to be a comment for twandx's diary, but decided this news warrants its own headline. Has this been reported anywhere on MSM?  (And don't forget it was New Hampshire who gave Hillary Clinton her historic primary win:  the first woman to win a major presidential primary in U.S. history.  New Hampshire voters rock!)

............

House Joint Resolution 3:

This house joint resolution recognizes the historic milestone represented by the New Hampshire senate being the first legislative body in the United States with women as the majority of its members:

...the first legislative body in history that's actually representative of its consitiuency. what's up with those NH voters - how come they're electing people who represent them?

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

the country as a whole proportionally represented its women!   Maybe our government would have listened to the likes of Brooksley Born and Sheila Bair and, for that matter, Hillary Clinton, and we wouldn't be in the economic mess we are in now..

"how come they're electing people who represent them?"

also, as a fellow NHite reminded me, NH reps don't have a salary -- a lot more women are willing to be unpaid volunteers, so a lot more of them throw their hats in the election ring.

On an unrelated but equally smile-bringing note....our daughter just found out that she got the Post Doc that she had applied for!!  Yipee...sorry to celebrate so publically!

Very inspiring!  If they can do this in NH then surely we can do it in other states around the nation!

But this post doc is related to genetics and psychology so it's a great addition to her resume.

Just think....she may actually have a job some day!

Whoops - this was supposed to respond to Sharon, above. (0.00 / 0)
(With a mother like me, it's a wonder our daughter graduated from kindergarten!)

Happy news, but still... (0.00 / 0)
that's just one State in 50 and it's 2009.

and besides (0.00 / 0)

New Hampshire reps are unpaid volunteers (though they do get reimbursed for mileage).  Women will work for nothing; men, not.  Are your reps paid anything in Vermont?

This is exciting news.
