| John Lewis needs no introduction. He is one of the Big Six of the civil rights movement. He led the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and got a fractured skull for his pains. And he was back in the next march. In the front. John doesn't scare easily.
John Lewis endorsed Hillary for president back in February, saying he did so because she was the best candidate, and stood up to enormous pressure. When he announced that he would vote for Obama in deference to his constituency's wishes, he never said he was doing it because Obama was the better candidate.
But that wasn't good enough for the Obama crowd. A challenger came forward, saying John Lewis was "out of touch". Time to move over, old man. I diaried about this challenger, Markel Hutchins, and his bad check charges for a check he wrote to get his Lexus emblems gold plated. New blood indeed ;-)
And Obama took a cheap shot at John Lewis just a week ago, remarking on his absence at an Obama appearance near Atlanta. John didn't show up to kiss the ring, and Obama was petty enough to notice AND remark on it. Obama was doing his best to send the message out- John Lewis isn't on the team, folks.
So how did the primary turn out tonight? Heh. |
| campskunk :: John Lewis Stands Tall - Obama-Inspired Primary Challenger Fades |
| With 43% of precincts reporting....
John Lewis 12,919 68.6%
Markel Hutchins 3,164 16.8%
"Able" Mable Thomas 2,752 14.6%

Well, so much for the Obama magic, and hope and change. The voters of the Fifth Congressional District voted for the man who actually marched across that bridge 40 some years ago, not one of these young guys who talked about it.
Us old folks knew better than to underestimate John Lewis, or to denigrate his contribution to the civil rights movement. These young folks? Well, they're learning ;-) |
