PUMA Numbers from Pew

There's a new Pew Research poll up Thursday sampling womens' preference in the general election, with breakdowns about how Hillary's female supporters are reacting to the "you've got nowhere to go" choice between Obama and McCain. The crosstabs are interesting, because Hillary's primary supporters are broken out.

Fourteen percent of former Hillary supporters are supporting McCain, and 17 percent are undecided. That's 31% of Hillary's supporters still off the reservation, with the additional caveat for the unity pony/kumbaya wishful thinkers that support for the presumptuous Democratic nominee is 3% lower among Democratic women than it was in 2000. And we know how 2000 turned out. This is consistent with earlier polls showing 30-35% of former Hillary supporters not drinking the Kool-Aid. And it's not just the women Hillary supporters, either - the numbers don't change much when you add in the men.

Among all Democratic voters (men and women) who preferred Clinton in the primary, Obama leads McCain by 70% to 15%, with another 15% saying they are undecided or volunteering another candidate. Within this larger group of Clinton backers, there are no significant differences between men and women; 69% of women and 72% of men who supported Clinton say they will vote for Obama over John McCain.

Female Hillary supporters are getting the benign neglect treatment from the Obama campaign, who have chosen to pretend like they don't exist after the failure of the "get over it" and "you'll come around - you have nowhere else to go" initiatives.

I wonder if they have a similar.... (0.00 / 0)
chart for men - including male Clinton supporters...who, I am happy to say, are also supporters of PUMA POWER!!!

just updated... (0.00 / 0)
it's in the text box near the bottom. adding in the men doesn't change things much. 31% of hillary-supporting women are off the reservation; 28% hillary-supporting of men are.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

My husband just told me he's a NOBAMA (0.00 / 0)
I didn't know that for sure until just now, I suspected though.  Just didn't ask.

Beware of small sample sizes...172 is very small and has a large MOE... (0.00 / 0)
Even the total sample of 798 is small...and the universe of "registered voters" is pretty broad...we don't know how many are actually interested in voting and will show up at the polls.

I was interviewed on the Blog Bunker on Sirius last week and we discussed polling.  I have a couple of posts about this in my recent archives...I used to work for Gallup under Andy Kohut who now runs Pew...

This would be funny if it weren't so SAD...
and all so predictable...UGH!

...includes a thank you to PUMA for all the support in putting up with this litany of phony fundraising letters....

yeah, it's small... (0.00 / 0)
...but not as small as the sample of 141 obama backers ;-)

this data is hard to come by, and we pretty much take what we can get. the rasmussen poll showing hillary beating mccain by 8 points (six weeks after she suspended her campaign) while obama's muddling along within the MOE was a pleasant surprise. the result wasn't a surprise - the fact that people were still polling hillary and hillary's primary supporters was.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

the you have nowhere to go initiatives (0.00 / 0)
that is so funny.  Guess we have to make them listen to us, needing our votes sure isn't working.  Guess we have to get louder.  It's the competence, stupid?

Hillary - alternative energy

This will (positively) affect all future elections (0.00 / 0)
Whether Obama wins or loses, this holdout faction should send a loud message to all future candidates that a) using sexism to win will not be tolerated and b) voters don't fall for the "you have nowhere else to go." In fact, they'll be even more motivated to FIND a place to go.

Nader or Bab Barr or Cynthia McKinney.

Oh, I fully intend to let future candidates (0.00 / 0)
in future elections know exactly how I feel and invite them to enjoy my favor (and money) or my scorn.  That's the nice thing about being my authentic self, I don't have to stop and remember how I'm supposed to remember everything......I can just simply remember and learn from the past!
