Obama's Third Term

by: NewHampster

Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 20:32:11 PM EDT

According to Politico, The One™ expects to be in office for the next 8 to 10 years.  So now we have 57 States and 10 year Presidents.

"The objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people ... who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years," Obama said during a long interview in Afghanistan. "And it's important for me to have a relationship with them early, that I start listening to them now, getting a sense of what their interests and concerns are."

I can only say WTF?

This guy (0.00 / 0)
keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.  Is anyone else feeling like they're down the rabbit hole?

I've thought that since about April (0.00 / 0)
Strange.  Very strange

And for a veeerrrry long time now.  His more recent gaffes and flip flops are just confirming my intial intuition that the guy is not ready for prime time.

at No Quarter there are reports that he's promising Afghanistan warlords something or other, why negotiate, just make empty promises?  Of course he doesn't know how long he'll be in office, maybe eleven years, maybe three?  What's it matter, he can always change his mind, and that's change we can believe in.

The media strikes back, can't mock him, okay, they'll mock him for being unmockable, for all that self regard that's been so obvious all along. Remember his example of hope working was he's running for president, little oie him?   Methinks he's starting to get annoying.  Listen up supers, there is yet time, oh, right, you have your donations and some promises for the future? Well, stand in line, quite a few promises have been made.  Just ask the warlords.

If you watch any Letterman or Leno, you'll notice all the jokes are about McCain. This could backfire on Bam Bam.

Hugo Chavez tried this (0.00 / 0)
to amend their constitution so he could serve another term. Thankfully it was voted down (and thankfully he hadn't rigged enough voting machines.)

get the facts (0.00 / 0)
As a person who LIVES in Venezuela, I can tell you Chávez did not try to rig anything.  Venezuela has one of the most transparent election processes in the world.  The United States could learn a lot from Venezuela.  Also, how about learning about the referendum process here?  The President puts forth a list of items, as does the Congress.  They are separate, and voted on en bloc as up or down.  If I recall correctly, the term limit proposal came from the Congress, not Chávez.  With the all-or-nothing approach, one item in the list (there were something like 35 to 40 in each bloc), such as the term limit proposal, can cause the entire bloc of proposals to be defeated.  This is what happened.  Venezuelans sent their message (which Chávez graciously accepted without any condition or threat or subsequent manuevering) rejecting the parts they did not like and lost out on the parts they did like.  Also, the people who use intimidation and threats in Venezuela, with respect to politics, are the derechistas.  Chávez's approval rating?  73.9%.

Will someone please explain to me how it is that so many Hillary supporters are skeptical about media coverage of her, but refuse to accept that the same media distort facts and fabricate lies about other people?  ANYONE who opposes their corporate interests is a target, yet so many are simply willing to believe the stories about others.

Hey voting machines here are rigged all the time (0.00 / 0)
I have no idea what voting technology Venezuela uses. It was a pleasant surprise that the referendum was voted down. Chavez has 73.9% approval? I thought his popularity took a dive of late.

Has anyone else (0.00 / 0)
picked up on this?  Will this be one of the topics on Hardball?  Maybe the late night comics will poke fun at his 10-year administration?  (I'm sure Anna Shane can come up with a good cartoon version!)

p.s.
Maybe Obama has missed his real calling.  Is it to late for him to try out for professional basketball?

the jokes will be about how he can't take a joke. They'll be all, did you hear the Barack joke? Well, you won't hear it here!!  Barack and Barack and Barack were in a lifeboat?  Late one night traveling salesman Barack knocked on his door?  Barack announces, he's ready to debate himself, and he can't hardly wait.  What's the difference between a Barack and a Barack?  (I don't know either, but he's sure to explain).  How many Barack's does it take to screw in a Barack?  (Answer: None, not even Barack is allowed to screw Barack.)  Your turn.

He doesn't know (0.00 / 0)
What their interests and concerns are?

I can hear an Obama supporter diplomacy expert telling me that doing research and having an idea of what people's concerns are before meeting them is a bad idea.

If he had held a meeting of his subcommittee, (0.00 / 0)
which oversees NATO and the Afghanistan war, he would have had an idea or two instead of being ignorant of what the situation is there. If he had just done the job he has now, he would know. But he was too busy writing a book and running for President to actually do his job in the Senate. It makes me wonder what he is going to be running for when he gets into the White House..God, perhaps?

Would someone just put a gold star on his forehead and tell him he can go home?   I am so sick of this fool already.

But seriously... (0.00 / 0)
...clearly he meant the next 8 to 10 as in the 2 years that presidents often continue diplomacy they've begun during their terms (it's sort of an unofficial rule, though it hasn't been of much use lately since Bush shut Clinton out immediately).

Don't mistake me for a concern troll, but I think there are PLENTY of things we can attack Obambi on without trying to force square pegs into round holes.

This isn't an "attack". It's a joke. (0.00 / 0)
It's humor.

well, we're concerned about you. (0.00 / 0)
you don't seem to be happy here.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

[ Parent ]
??? (0.00 / 0)
I am plenty happy here.  But make no mistake, I am here for a reason.  That reason is we are uniting to get these delegates to FIX the mistake they've made.  They stole this election, and we've got to take it back.  We have a limited time to do this.

Call me a concern troll (and this is the second time you have alluded to this- does that make you a concern troll concern troll? (JOKE!)), but do it at your peril.  I am very concerned, indeed- this is serious business.  And every time I read a diary about something silly like "he said 57 states" or "where is his birth certificate", I get frustrated, because that's the kind of thing people will point to and say "see- they're all just kooks!".

We're not kooks.  We're RIGHT.  But it's all for naught if we can't convince the right people.  We have to be on the ball- we can't expect this to just HAPPEN.  If we don't, we WILL be finished, folks.  And Hillary, and our country, deserves better.

So if you want an echo chamber where everyone agrees with every diary, then fine, I'm at the wrong site, ban me and be done with it, I'll have to find somewhere else to post.  But this site is full of smart people. You included.  So I hope you'd think better than that.

[ Parent ]
we're not attacking Barack (0.00 / 0)
we're talking about real stuff that he can correct.  Why attack? Even in the primary we were talking issues, and outing Barack for his character smears on  Hillary.  If you think that's taking, you think thinking is attacking.

I think we need to start asking: (0.00 / 0)
Is he smarter than a fifth-grader?

Obama is just another stupid narcissist trying to sell himself as a compassionate conservative. Haven't we had seven horrible years of the Bush administration already?

Hillary. Accept no substitutes.

He is not the President yet, and may well not be!-- (0.00 / 0)
And it doesn't bother anyone but me that he is already acting as though he has been elected, and been inaugurated?  It's July for crying out loud, not next January, and the ACTUAL VOTING hasn't happened yet.  Why isn't he being made fun of for being such a presumptuous idiot?

as long as he gets the free media ride (0.00 / 0)
He'll ride it, he's not as stupid as he pretends, but he doesn't understand history, Americans have a way of letting the mighty fall hard.  If he's listening, hey, start poking fun at yourself, you look fragile.

media bubble (0.00 / 0)
The press loves to build up sports 'heros' and actresses and polititions and ALL well known people and the higher they build them up the more they enjoy bringing them down. Obama is still on the collective upswing and as high as they are building him he's going to be a flat pancake come November.

[ Parent ]
Dont' tell him that (0.00 / 0)
I see no difference in Obama and GWB at this stage of the game. Bush was arrogant and self important but he waited until AFTER the elections to become a meglomaniac- Obama can't seem to wait that long.

[ Parent ]
It bothers me a great deal. (0.00 / 0)
I am disgusted by this presumptuous, arrogant, ridiculous attitude Obama has.  He is not the head of state; he is not even the Speaker of the House or the Majority Leader of the Senate; really, he needs to learn to keep his ego in check.

However, it's good for us he's such an arrogant ignoramus.  Because really, the more people who see him acting like this, the more they'll be unlikely to vote for him.  Ever.

Thanks for posting this, New Hampster.  I saw it -- you know I did -- but I've been feeling really awful (heat sickness).

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.
