Maine No on 1 Thread

Bangor News results. NYT link.

8:37 EST - With 3% in, we're losing:

REJECT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LAW
Yes 5336 54.68%
No 4422 45.32%

8:54 EST - with 5% in, we're up!:

No   14969   54.60%
Yes 12446 45.40%

9:38 EST - with 17% of precincts in, but evidently a higher pct of voters, it looks like it's going to be close:

No   37801   51.30%
Yes 35892 48.70%

9:50 EST - all the servers I'm watching are getting hammered. The Bangor Daily News seems to be reloading with obsolete numbers. "Open" "Left" is down a lot.

9:52 EST - with 22% of precincts in:

No   56659   50.62%
Yes 55267 49.38%

10:21 EST - Data insanity breaks out:

Unofficial Results sorted by race for 2009 November Election contested races updated at 10:21 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. 172 of 605 (28 %) of precincts have been reported. 1016547 of 942825 (108%) registered voters have participated in this election. Election information provided by the Bangor Daily News.

Yes 74802 50.51%
No 73292 49.49%

10:41 EST The NYT has somewhat different, perhaps newer, results (yay!):

No -   97,182  51.0%
Yes - 93,502 49.0

10:45 EST - ouch (NYT). Too bad we couldn't find a really big name Dem to help out, huh?:

37% reporting

Yes - 108,799 50.0%
No - 108,762 50.0

11:08 EST - 49% reporting. The WH said BHO's not watching the results. Sure. My bet is he's hoping like he's never hoped before that he didn't fuck this up with his lack of leadership.

Yes - 142,916 50.4%
No - 140,783 49.6

11:14 EST - oddly the top BHO blogs are pushing wishful data, not the usual hard projections about whose counties are in or not. They've gone down hill for some reason.

11:22 EST - 60% reporting. Have I mentioned that I can always count of Obama to let me down? I soooo want to be wrong about this guy on something important.

Yes - 182,360 51.6%
No - 171,171 48.4

11:44 EST - not good. With close to 2/3 in, the spread is 3.6%. An identical replay of Prop. 8. Obama won Maine in the general election 58/40. A caucus state, he "won" it over Hillary 68/32.

Yes - 201,616 51.8%
No - 187,699 48.2

12:05 EST - 75% reporting

Yes - 227,360 52.1%
No - 208,743 47.9

Ana Marie Cox tweets:

Things now looking even grimmer in Maine... 76% in, @nomtweets asshats up 52/47.8 (Thanks, Obama, for all the help!)

A short while ago, she re/tweeted:

RT @twpolk If Gays lose in ME by such tight margin, the blame will falls on DNC, OFA and Obama. // Sadly, I think they all know that.

I guess it's cold comfort that a netroots cw purveyor like Ana Marie sees things the same way the real world does.

My back of the envelope calculation (0.00 / 0)
says that turnout is higher than predicted.

Good luck -- we need this to go "YES!" (0.00 / 0)
I really hope, PJ, that the Maine voters will vote Yes.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

Oops, I meant NO! (0.00 / 0)
I don't know how this initiative is written, PJ -- you do.  I want same-sex marriage to be legal in Maine in case there was any doubt.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

And that's what happens when I try to answer things too quickly. :-( (0.00 / 0)
At any rate, I want the folks to vote "NO!" -- or as the character Madea would say, "Hell to the NO!" ;)

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

Wasn't she a Big O fan? (0.00 / 0)
Wasn't Cox a big Obama pusher before the election?  When the McClurkin incident should have told everyone everything they needed to know about him?

When somebody shows you who they are, pay attention.

Cox (0.00 / 0)
is addicted to cool.

From what I remember (0.00 / 0)
while she wasn't vociferous, I recall being relieved to see she was one of the few who was at least skeptical about Obama. At least during the primaries.

Quite frankly, (0.00 / 0)
why did it take Maine's elections to "wake up" the LGBT community about BO and his admin?  During the 2008 campaign BO never really supported the LGBT community, and the passing of Proposition 8 in California (where he robo-called in support of it) just put a point on it.  His hostile judicial positions on DOMA, DADT, etc. were also glaring signs of his dismissal of this community's fight for civil rights and equality before the law.

Some people fell in love with Obama (0.00 / 0)
and are slow to realize that he's a jerk.

On the CA robo-call, he wasn't behind the Yes on 8 robo-call, which was audio of his debate at Saddleback (iirc), but he didn't exactly set the record straight either.

Honestly, Trixta, I don't know. (0.00 / 0)
This was highly disappointing.  I just don't understand how this happened and would like to see a mandatory recount, especially with the "funny numbers" being reported earlier.  (Maybe that was a typo, maybe not.  But I'd like to see it recounted.)

As for Obama, he is a wimp.  At absolute best.  And he has no commitment to GLBT rights -- the more fool, he.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.
