AC Endorses Martha Coakley to Replace Ted Kennedy

The AC elves have been behind the scenes supporting the Coakley campaign, and are just getting around to a public endorsement.

Why Martha? She's a tough, loyal, quality Democrat in the Hillary mold. She's one of generation of solid women who take inspiration from Hillary, as will follow in her tracks. Since we're a little late with an endorsement, you may have already heard Martha's high points. As AG, she is suing the federal government to end DOMA, which would not only extend equal treatment to MA, but to all states. As one of our associate elves says, "you'll never hear Martha say marriage is between a man and a woman."

A Catholic herself, she was the first AG to sue the Church over pedophilia.

She's staunchly pro-woman and pro-choice. As Susie mentioned yesterday, Coakley states plainly that she would vote against any bill containing Stupak.

You can tell she's good by the way she's attacked. "Liberal" Talk Left, (the same blog to approve of the Schwarzenegger CA special election coup) implies she's weak on the death penalty - but she's not. Coakley's work opposing the death penalty is on par with John Kerry's and Ted Kennedy's (scroll down). We're sure we're not the only ones to hear echoes of earlier attacks on Hillary with this sort of smear.

Coakley is loyal to her values, her friends and her voters. She was one of the few superdelegates to stick with Hillary through the floor vote in Denver. She did what we would expect of every loyal Democrat, advocating on behalf of her state's voters to the end. Her voters went heavily for Hillary and she acted like it, unlike opportunists like former NJ Governor Corzine, who did something illegal in a number states, giving away not only his state's superdelegates, but all of NJ's pledged delegates, each of whom represented over 20,000 Democrats.

And finally, MA's blue, but it has a glass ceiling. Martha is only the second woman to be elected to statewide office in a state that has never had a female senator or governor.

Are you in? Show your love. There's even an Actblue page for Hillary supporters.

Pelosi endorsed Coakly's male opponent (0.00 / 0)
apparently Coakley is ahead of her primary opponents. Not sure how much weight Pelosi's endorsement carries in Massachusettes, given that state went for Hillary over Kerry, Kennedy, and Patrick's objections.

No Quarter for these snippets:

Politico reports:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be endorsing Rep. Michael Capuano in the Massachusetts Senate special election, choosing her House colleague over Attorney General Martha Coakley, who is seeking to become the first female senator in the state.

And Ellen Goodman's Boston Globe column reports:

Capuano is lagging behind in the four-way Democratic primary against Coakley, according to public polling. A Suffolk University poll released today showed Coakley leading with 44 percent of the vote, Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca in second with 17 percent, and Capuano in third with 16 percent.
