ACTION: Virtual Platform Committee Meeting

by: Alegre

Wed Jul 30, 2008 at 18:24:54 PM EDT

Information and action items are coming into our in-boxes fast and furious at this point and with good reason.  Denver's only a few weeks away and we STILL have a lot of work to do.

Guys that means hitting the phones when we get contact info and talking points etc.

The following info re the Virtual Platform Committee Meeting just came from several cyber-pals but Susan (No Quarter) was kind enough to put it all into easy breezy html code for easy posting.  This will literally take you just 5 minutes to complete (7 if you're a slow typist like me).  Go to the site and take the survey - this will help chart the course for future election cycles.

Foreward: If you wish to change how the Democratic party functions in future election cycles, you must undertake this simple, effective action that will get in the hands of the right people.

Imagine if we could change future primaries so that caucuses were "history." We can accomplish this!

That is why your participation is vital. You indeed "have the power," to borrow a phrase. I don't know about you, but I am tired of complaining. I want to work on solutions. From the newsletter of IOwnMyVote.com. Welcome to the Platfom Committee Issue! One of the missions of IOwnMyVote.com is to make sure that the Platform Committee of the Democratic National Convention hears Hillary's 18 million voters.

We've been derelict in our duty. While we were distracted by Obama's Rainbow Tour, we ignored emails from the Obama campaign asking us to hold primary platform meetings and to submit our ideas to the DNC and the campaign. Forgive us. We look at all Obama campaign requests with a heavy dose of skepticism. That was a mistake.

After some thought we've realized that we should never shrink from an opportunity to be heard. Moreover, while most Obama supporters probably had between 20 and 100 people at their meetings, we can send a message of what Hillary supporters all over the country want. Take action now! We ask that you take part in our Virtual Platform Committee Meeting.

Right now, click on this link and take five minutes to tell us which planks you want in the platform and which ones you don't. You will be heard.

This survey takes five minutes, at most, to complete. If you sign up at http://www.IOwnMyVote.com, you will receive its newsletters, which are chock full of important, solution-oriented news. You can also read the archive of IOwnMyVote.com's newsletters and announcements.

With you, IOwnMyVote.com can become a permanent, go-to site on the Internet. With you, we can create a counter-force to Howard and Jim Dean's DFA.

It's great fun trading posts on blogs like this.  As a new community we're just starting to get to know one another and it's all good.  But this site has a purpose and sometimes we need to do a bit of work to further the causes we feel are important.  This is one of those times.

We've seen what happened during the caucuses and primaries this year and unless we want to be back here again in 4 years, bitching about what crooks the other guys are, we need to take action now to help ensure it doesn't ever happen again.

yes. (0.00 / 0)

Thanks for posting this, Alegre.  When I took the survey myself for the virtual platform,  I was really very impressed with the critical detail.  Everything is there we need included in the platform, including promoting true democracy (get rid of caucuses; count all Democratic votes), true universal health care (nothing less that HRC's plan), standing against mysogyny (sp?) in media and in political campaigns, and much more.  These are the most important issues for me, and I said so in the survey.

and if they won't (0.00 / 0)
it can form the basis for a new truly Democratic party, the Democratic Women and Worker's Party?

Steve sent this around in respones to an email on this...

The one important thing I'd add is this:

If we don't defeat BHO in November, then the agenda of the Democratic Party (and the country) will be set by the same person who's setting it now:  Barack H. Obama.  There will be only cosmetic reform, at best, if he remains in charge and gets elected POTUS.  Right now, he pulls the strings and the DNC dances.  Don't let him do the same to the country.

this a couple of days ago. AND, of course, gave them a piece of my mind while I was at it.
