Backstage Pass My @ss

by: Alegre

Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 09:51:41 AM EDT

I'm sure you guys have seen those emails from the DNC.  They want us to pony up for a chance at a backstage pass at BHO's coronation in Denver next month.  My first thought was to send him something really obnoxious in reply, but then I though of why I couldn't go to their party, even if supported The One.  They think we can drop everything to go party with the big-shots but for millions of us - whether we support Hillary or BHO, that's a freedom we just don't have.  And never will.

So I fired off the following...

Howard:

I'm one of Hillary's 18 million supporters.  Like millions of others, I wouldn't be able to join you at that big coronation even if you paid for my flight, hotel and meals while I'm in Denver.

Why?

Because I work for a living!

I have a family to support.
My husband works too - 6 days a week.
Our daycare doesn't start each morning until an hour after he goes to work.
Will you come and babysit my kids from 7 to 8:30 each morning while I'm away?
Even if you could - millions of us work jobs where we don't get paid leave from our jobs.
If we could get away from work to attend your party, it would be without pay.
Will you cover my lost pay while I'm in Denver?

You see Howard, I really don't think you guys at the DNC get just how locked into our work-a-day lives we are out here.  If we're lucky enough to even HAVE a job in the first place.  Millions of us simply can't drop everything to attend the coronation and witness the theft of our party's nomination for the presidency.

Your ignorance - or out and out lack of interest in our lives - your detachment - your elitist take on what it means to be a Democrat has lost you millions of supporters.

Your enabling of the theft of our nomination by Obama has lost us to you.

YOU Howard have destroyed our party and driven a wedge so deep into the heart and soul of what we once stood for that I fear it may never be healed.

Shame on you.
Shame on the Rules Committee.
Shame on Obama and those who stood silently by while we were kicked to the curb.

But if they do insist on sending you the pass, I'll take it.  I have vacation owed me anyway.  ;-)

Too broke to donate even if I did support The One.

I get a bit of leave (not much though) but millions - like my husband - work jobs where vacation leave just isn't offered.

Childcare is a responsibility guys like Howie just don't think of.  Tells you how little thought they put into problems faced by families in our society.

They're so out of touch... and they've lost us because of it.

I heard from the One HimSelf today! (0.00 / 0)
Here's my response to an email I got from BHO this morning:

Dear Mr. Obama:

I just want to remind you that the Democratic Party threw out its own voters to make you the presumptive nominee, and the Party further rewarded you for taking your own name off the MI ballot by giving you extra delegates.   If all the votes had counted, and all the votes chose you, I would be supporting you.  Since that is not the case, you
do not have my support.  And for the first time in my life I will not vote for the Democratic Party's candidate on Nov. 4th.

i'm off the DNC's email list. (0.00 / 0)
they got the idea when i requested - and received - a refund on my Democracy Bond contributions they misappropriated for the glorification of The Oneā„¢.

however, i'm still receiving DSCC fundraising appeals by mail, with a big fancy letter from Barry, and a return envelope (prepaid!) addressed to Barry, C/O DSCC. do they actually think that putting his name on it is going to help??? anyway, I stuffed it full of printouts of PUMA logos, and sent it on its way. anxiously awaiting the next one... i like what that woman from Mississippi who called in to No We Won't PUMA radio said a couple of weeks ago. i hope they keep sending them, so i can tell them off every damn time.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

my mistake (0.00 / 0)
I just wrote him, back in November, and told him he needed to speak against the sexism from the other candidates, not just the press, and to have a fact check so that Hillary didn't have to fact check them.   they all needed fact checks from the DNC. But, I still get the letters asking me for donations, as if I'd never said peep. They sure can't listen.

I guess this election is for those who don't have responsibilities or who can afford to take time off work.  Not the core Democratic base, but then our base isn't needed by the party, so why should they care enough to be polite.

I"m mixed (0.00 / 0)
If the convention is fixed, I'd still rather Barrack win over McCain, but I'd then rather we start a new party and have some standards.  I'd like Hillary to start a congressional auditing think tank, to rate all our representatives based on test scores, experience points, and debate skills and with published papers on their positions.  I see no reason why the most knowledgeable and prepared candidate in my lifetime had to be smeared by 'my' party, unless they don't value competence and proven ability.  That being apparently the case, we need a new Democratic party, for Democrats.  The best way to level the playing field and to bring in new brains and talent is to require credentials, that's why the military isn't racist anymore, although it's still highly sexist.

We're fighting for our right to an open vote at the convention right now.  After Denver we'll be fighting for healthcare reform, womens rights, an swift end to the Iraq war... same thing Hillary will be fighting for either as our nominee, or from the Senate.

In other words... we're just getting started baby!

of a new Democratic Party.  What can we call it?  For now I'm staying in the Party and giving the leadership hell.  It would be good if real Dems could take it back.

Me too, one can't change the party (0.00 / 0)
from the outside. So I am not giving the DNC money, am still registered as a Dem, and explain to them every time they send me an email asking for funds why they aren't getting any and Hillary is. I enjoy that. Heh.

marcos was a little reaganite - so were many other PB 1.0 people. the nice thing is, it'll be easy to get the party back because all these clowns will be gone by sunup on wednesday, november 5th. i remember well the echo in the room for democratic party meetings after the 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000, and 2004 elections. the faint of heart had disappeared. nobody was left except us democrats.

Why would anyone want to go into a backstage room with BHO? -- especially after hearing what Keith Obamaman said about being in a backroom with that guy.

I got an email today (0.00 / 0)

from the One HimSelf asking me for money. I reminded him the Party threw out its own voters to make him the presumptive nominee, and the Party rewarded him for taking his own name off the MI ballot by giving him extra delegates.

In His email, the One suggested that we need to show the strength of our grassroots movement.  Let's take Him up on that one!  Throw the One out!

my response (0.00 / 0)

Here's my own responses to some of those emails:

To Howard Dean:

I'm too angry at the DNC for throwing out millions of their own Democratic voters.  I'm disgusted with you.  You should resign.

To DCC:

If November's election is so critical to our country's future, what are the Dems doing with a presumptive nominee who is probably the least qualified ever for the country's highest job?  I personally like Obama, but he is the wrong choice for our next president.  I am so disgusted with the way the Democratic Party mishandled Florida and Michigan's voters, that I am not going to send the Party any money.  When the Party gets back to respecting its own Democratic voters and the concept of "one person; one vote", get back to me then.

To Al Gore:

I'm one of your longtime supporters, Al.  I voted for you in my state's caucus when you first ran for president.  I supported you right from the beginning in the 2000 election.  I'm sorry to disappoint you now, but I think the Democratic Party lost its moral compass this primary season.   The DNC stupidly threw out millions of their own voters; in other words millions of babies out with the bathwater.  My mother is a lifelong Democrat who lives in Florida.  She's not half a person.  To punish Dems for what the Republican legislature did is absurd.  Now the DNC says they'll seat half the Florida delegates.  THE DAMAGE HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE, AND THE DNC KNOWS IT.  The remedy was way too little; way too late.  I'm totally disgusted with the Democratic Party.  How dare they give all the Uncommitted votes in Michigan to someone who, of his own volition, took his name off the ballot.  Those Uncommitted voters should be represented at the convention by Uncommitted delegates.  He did not earn those votes.  The DNC made itself into a big Enabler for Sen. Obama.  This is entitlement run amok.  One final note:  the Democratic Party has taken its women voters for granted far too long.  NO MORE.  You guys can iron your own shirts.  Good luck in the general election.

To Sierra Club, on their endorsement of BO:

and how did Senator Obama vote on the 2005 Cheney Energy bill?  I believe even McCain supported environmentalists and voted against it.  I will never vote for someone for president who has as little real experience in his resume as Sen. Obama.  Now is not the time for someone who would be the least qualified president in the past whole century.  The Democratic Party has lost its mind to nominate this guy.  He's also a total fake.  He's for public campaign financing until he himself has so much money he breaks his promise.  This guy has no guts.  All he has is a huge ego -- look at that "presidential obama seal" -- what arrogance.

PUMA LIVES ON (0.00 / 0)
Whatever happens at this Convention, PUMA will stay in the fight.

This election is NOT all that PUMA is about.  It's about being victimized by our OWN DAMN PARTY.  NOt as citizens, but as LONG STANDING LOYAL DEMS.

I don't know if ALEGRE will still be here (I hope so)
but PUMAPAC will be.  We have along way till November, so keep up the good spirits.

PS he hasn't won the nomination yet, but I'll be damned, I won't work against BRAZILLE< PELOSI, or DEAN anyway I can to stop their re-elections.

UNLESS they rig those too.

OOOOPS typo, I'll be damne if I WON'T stop working against...... (0.00 / 0)

Love it Alegre.  Decided to come out of lurker mode.  I replied this to McMahon about two weeks ago to one of these e-mails:

Dear Mr. McMahon,

Fuck off.  Barack Obama is not Kelly Clarkson.  He's not an American Idol and I don't need to go "backstage" with him.  Even less so with a "friend."

You stole my Michigan vote.  Remember when the DNC said 4 Michigan delegates should go from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama because of the possibility of write-in ballots and because of polling data?  Yeah, that.  Each pledged delegate Hillary won corresponded to 20,000 votes.  That's 80,000 Michiganian voices stolen.

So take your sweet talk of a "Fifty State Strategy" and shove it up your "green dinner!" derriere.  Oooh!  A French word!  But how can I possibly know that but not support your selected -- yet not elected -- candidate?  By my dismissive tone, I clearly must be an "uneducated," "older," "female," "Reagan Democrat," "RACIST"!!!  Madlibs is fun!  Wee!

That was a 48-State Strategy, and you know it.  And where Michigan is concerned, you stole votes to do anything to win.  Wonderful.

You can thank your lucky stars that because of this crappy economy I cannot afford to go to Denver.  Because if I could, I'd be there protesting the postively un-democratic way that the "Democratic" party has conducted their own party elections this year.

Or, hell, feel free to give me those tickets to meet Sen. Obama backstage!!!! to meet Him!!! and be a part of this HISTORIC EVENT!!!

I'll wear ass-less chaps, and ask my friend to do the same.  Then we can, in stereo, tell him to kiss our gay, middle-class asses.

Much love, and stop sending me these damn e-mails,

A PUMA Democrat.

And yet, I still keep getting them.  Deaf ears and all, neh?
