My Heart is Breaking

by: NewHampster

Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 22:35:58 PM EDT

I'm being torn in two and I know I'm not alone.
  • I have never voted for a Republican for anything.
  • I have worked my ass off for the Democratic party since I was 20 and that means about 38 years.
  • My Heart is Breaking
  • I'm actually a candidate for state rep
  • I'm considering becoming an independent
  • Did I smoke too much and fall down a rabbit hole?
  • I just read the Green Party platform
  • I literally have hated the Republican party since '72
  • Their treatment of a President in the 90's truly disgusted me.
  • But now I hate someone even more
  • And my friends know hate is not part of me
  • So what I really hate is what he has made me become
  • Damn

cheer up, hampster. (0.00 / 0)
just go on a three month vacation, and when you come back, you'll have the whole democratic party to yourself. there will be an echo in here, because all those obamazoids will be off doing something else and out of our hair.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

He brings out the worst in everyone (0.00 / 0)

How will this end (0.00 / 0)
I can't see him hanging around the Senate and trying to run again.

How did the Whig party break up? (0.00 / 0)
Is this what's happening to us? I don't know if any Whigs are alive today to tell us.

In all seriousness (0.00 / 0)
something like that will require some major players and not just hacks to get on board.  I keep talking green but they're 2nd. tier flakes.  Obama may be right about one thing.

We can't let this time pass us by.  This is the single best time in memory to divide the party, pull midlers from the repubs and build a new coalition.

But it would take a leadership group made up of many Hillarys.  I wish she would do it.  I really do.

Take Joe Scarborough for it. (0.00 / 0)
He is making sense, he apologized to Hillary for the way he treated her and Bill as part of the republican congress when she was first lady.  Several times he has teased Terry McAuliffe about a golf game with the President (which I think maybe just a prelude to a personal apology).

Aren't you amazed to realize that Joe Scarborough and Hillary Clinton agree? He said, "... people make fun of her for that 3am ad... but you know, as a red-state kind of guy, I would have been most comfortable with her picking up that phone call."

The thought of a party with the likes of Joe Scarborough and Hillary Clinton has occured to me.  But I think Hillary is a loyal democrat and Joe is a recovering politician.

The depressing thought is that I listen to Nancy Pelosi and I realize she is a copy of Bush.  She is not going to challenge the status quo. What matters is her own powers and that's it.  That goes for many other democratic leaders.

The sad irony is that Hillary comes across to me as one of the very few politicians who are interested in doing good and doing the right things, and she is painted as a typical politician who will do anything to get elected!!

I dare to say it and you won't know it for the atrocity of reporting in America, but Hillary made the most history this year.  Jesse Jackson won many primaries and caucus and hauled serious delegates during his runs.  But Hillary was the first woman to win a competitive primary.  As someone said, you had to go all the way to Britain to pick that headline up.

And they wonder why women are pissed???

Yeah, nothing has happened.  She has won the most primary votes in the history of any party, has hauled so many delegates that the other guy has to rely on (dare I say) superdelgates, delegate snatching, AND the media whores to accumulate enough delegates to be the presumptive nominee.  And yet, they don't want this history-making woman's name to be put in nomination.  She should be polite and campaign for him!  Who, just who, in the course of history of America has been subject to such humiliation, and would she be, if she was not a woman and a clinton to boot??

Democratic Party calls itself a party for women's rights?? It should go and f---k itself!!

OK, end of my rant.

I've known for years. Grandma used to watch Springer. (0.00 / 0)
Btw, Grandma -- who's been dead for several years, life-long Democrat -- would be appalled at this year's election.  I am uncertain if she would've taken to Senator Clinton right off, but I know she'd have detested Obama because of being part of the Chicago political machine -- and she'd have been angry and annoyed that he'd first driven out Edwards, then did his level best to drive out the only possible -- and far better -- alternative, Clinton.

That's why I donated in both my late husband's memory and in my Grandma's -- they'd both be absolutely appalled at what the DNC has done to our party.

As for the idiots calling NH a "fluffer," they're just that -- idiots.  It's obviously untrue, and it makes me wonder what they think they're doing for Obama in their shallow little minds?

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

Frankly, I am spending less time there; some of those members are just vicious and damn nasty!  I did like to mojo fellow Clinton supporters for having the guts to say what needs to be said there.

FYI:  I could not access Alegre's site here last night either - but could this morning.  Also could not access a couple other sites like Talk Left and Corrente last night - but can now.  Strange.

Not yet.

Not until they turn out the lights in Denver.

Until then we fight on for every last delegate out there.

We shed light on the way the other side has bought and bribed superdelegates.

We rage against the theft of peldged delegates in Michigan, and the slicing in half of the rest in MI & FL.

We challenge those supers to explain to us how they can go against their constituents wishes by backing BHO when they voted for Hillary.

We point out time and time AGAIN that he can't win, but that Hillary WILL beat McCain come NOvember.

We fight one.

We never let up.

We fight for Hillary because she's fighting for us.

I think a lot of them DO want to flip.  I've said all along that Obama's support is a mile wide and an inch deep, save for the true OFB.

In fact, I think much of what drives the DNC's support of Obama is sheer stubbornness...a total refusal to admit what they know is right...that they're backing a loser.

McCain won me over today (0.00 / 0)
I was leaning McCain.  And I was prepared to help him fend off Bots attack.  But today McCain and his camp won me over with their statement setting the record straight for Bill Clinton against the race card.

I'm glad someone stood up for Bill.  Not a single soul from DEM party leaders defended Bill against the race card.  Nobody said "No Bill Clinton is not a racist".   But a Republican did that.

"Say whatever you want about Bill Clinton," Schmidt said, "but it's deeply unfair to suggest his criticism of Obama was race-based. President Clinton was a force for unity in this country on this subject. Every American should be proud of his record as both a governor and president. But we knew it was coming in our direction because they did it against a President of the United State of their own party."

Yes but you have to be aware that in the backs of their minds, they are (0.00 / 0)
being good to the Clintons purposely to get the disaffected Clinton voters.  The more sympathetic they are to the Clintons, the more likely they will get their voters.  Or maybe he was being genuine, but McCain doesn't represent Clinton values.  Please just keep that in mind.

And, he is actually a good friend of Hillary's.  But yes, agreed.  No one in the race represents my values, which is ok.  I never guessed 2008 would be an election I felt so disaffected over.

For me, it is actually a little more than disappointment. (0.00 / 0)
If she had been beaten by someone who was a decent honest person, that would be one thing.  But Obama won and so we had a double wammy.  Not only did Hillary lose, but we have a crude asshole in place of her bringing along all the crudeness like his entertainment friends the singers and the comics into the whitehouse.  It's offensive, and I don't know if that really is an improvement over now.  Though I could never vote for McCain, even though he is superior in just class alone.

[ Parent ]
Nope. Hillary didn't lose -- the nomination was stolen from her. (0.00 / 0)
The DNC must be held accountable, yes, but they enabled Obama -- and he's never repudiated the stolen four Michigan delegates he has absolutely no right to, much less competed for the 55 Uncommitteds, either.  Which is why I also hold him to blame, although right now it's 70% blame by the DNC and 30% blame by Obama's campaign staff and Obama himself.

Still -- won't vote for this guy, because that enables the DNC to just do it again and tell us all to go jump, which is, btw, exactly what they did this time.

I stand with Hillary Clinton, and only Hillary Clinton, this time around.  No Obama, no way!

DNC, what is so hard about this to understand?  Hillary Clinton will win, and Obama will lose.  You've sold your collective souls for nothing -- and I'm ashamed of the lot of you.

After all, your nephew will be guided by excellent advisors (such as yourself).  He'd do well as long as he has his naps, and will finish his term of office before hitting the teen years.

I'd rather look at him for 8 years than at McCain or BO.  I bet his playmates are cuter than Michelle or Cindy too.

There is, however, the little worry of him mistaking certain red buttons for those on his toys, and trying to push them!!

[ Parent ]

My point was I may agree with Obama on more issues, but I just don't like him and can't vote for someone like that. (Time for a catnap.)

[ Parent ]
I know. (0.00 / 0)
Since Bush and Obama constantly claim that they are inexperienced but guided by excellent advisors... so the office of presidency is just ceremonial (they imply... but want all the powers anyway!!)

So I thought it would be fun to have a cute 4-year old there.  Hey, is that movie already done?? Think of all little kids in suits and perfect hair cuts in attention, while Hail to The Chief is played.

It could work!!

I am unaffiliated now. I feel the same as when I was a (0.00 / 0)
Democrat.  Like the Catholic I used to be, I'm not a non-Catholic now.  I'm a fallen away Catholic.  At least that's what the religious ones insist.  So, I am just a fallen away Democrat.  I was always a stronger democrat than Catholic, anyhow.  Just for your information.

BO = GWB! (0.00 / 0)
NH--A protest vote for McCain is worth it for me!  Obama must be stopped at all costs!  He is another GWB in this crucial sense -- BO wants to expand further executive powers, rather than keep them in check through the other branches of government. Indeed, instead of changing the status quo, BO hopes to exploit it further.

I've been waiting patiently for the end of the GWB era, but now we're faced with an Obama presidency, which I see as the flip side of the same imperial/fascist coin, as it were.  His exploitation of the corrupt caucus system, his refusal to enfranchise MI and FL in March, and his vote for FISA sealed that reality for me. Not to mention a new class of Brown Shirts . . . .

The fact that the Pod Dems want the Left's version of GWB via Obama is utterly unacceptable to me!

So, if Obama loses the GE--and I hope he does--we will be able to get our Party back that much sooner from the Pod Dems.

But in the event that Obama manages to steal the election through his army of operatives at the voting booths, the Dem Party will be irreparably split.  In this case, it will be time to form a new coalition of liberal centrists (the Coalition Party?) which, as it stands right now, is comprised of the working class from all genders, races, ethnicities, those staunch Dems from the FDR tradition, and perhaps liberal Republicans who are tired of the right wing crazies.  A Party around this kind of coalition would prevent either end of the political spectrum from taking over the country and running amok.  It would also be a Party of pragmatists who are willing to work together to get things done. Furthmore, it would be a Party that would actually uphold the constitution! (Okay, I realize the challenges of forming a new Party, etc,..., but what else have we 18 million voters got to lose?)

This is why I am voting for McCain--a protest vote to save this country from dangerous charismatic leaders and the corruption of power!

Obama's FISA vote (0.00 / 0)
didn't help quell my anxiety over his blatant power grab.

I have no doubt that should he win the presidency he and his bullies will first go after any remaining dissent within the Dem Party, then move on to the Repugs, etc.

Although I disagree with McCain on many issues, I don't believe he's interested in an imperial/fascist presidency. In fact, he will be a lame duck for most of his 4 years since it looks like the Dems will win both Houses comfortably this GE.

Many members of my family who have never voted Republican will be voting for McCain on this principal alone--country over Party!  Yeah, it feels weird saying that I'll be voting for a Republican, but a bit of discomfort is worth stopping the excesses of Obama and the Pod Dems who have taken over the Party.

I'd support and work for the "Coalition Party" 100%!  As far as I'm concerned, Obama should have run as an Independent.  He did not get the core Democratic voter support - Hillary did.  I know he is not "speaking" to me!

[ Parent ]
Boy do I feel your angst, Hampster (0.00 / 0)
What I would LOVE to see is Hillary start a new 3rd party, with all us disenfranchised Dems, Independents and Republicans for Hillary supporters she could probably pull it off. It would be an awesome and much needed wake up call to the corruption and melding of the two corporate parties.

It would also be a stance and a much needed one to save our democracy while we still have a chance.

But I cannot vote Democratic this year if Hillary is not on the ticket. It is morally wrong to me on too many levels.

I'm Over It (0.00 / 0)
They told me to "get over it." So, I wrestled with my angst and I got over it. I'm not voting for Obama; I'm way past the point of caring about the Democratic Party, or what they've turned me into; and I don't give a rat's ass if anyone thinks I'm a "racist" because I know for a fact that Barack "Hubris" Obama is "presumptuous" as hell.

Too late for their "white guilt." I am not voting for Barack Obama; he is a Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His "character" is clear. I can see by "my lying eyes" what he is; and I choose to see clearly.

If Cynthia McKinney isn't on my state ballot; I'm voting for John McCain. I never thought it possible, but they gave me no choice.

Their demand is that I acquiese to the "evil of two lessers." So be it. My rage at Donna Brazile, Don Fowler, Alice Germond and Howard Dean motivates my vote; their candidate's "character" forced me to choose on that basis. I feel no angst anymore. Just rage.

So, I'm choosing between the two candidates they gave me. They demand that I choose; therefore, they will get their wish.

evil of two lessers is exactly how it is (0.00 / 0)
and I'm in agreement but I'm also trying to find the greens in my state to see if I can help.  That work would get my mind off this crappy, polluted thing that used to be my party.

Cynthia will take the Black Vote from Oama (0.00 / 0)
I have analyzed both Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente and I believe they will reach their objective which is to become a major 3rd party by getting 5% of the vote.
One problem with Cynthia is that in 2000, she voted against the Live Birth Protection Act. That means if, during a late term abortion the child is born breathing, the government will then step in and see that child as independent and protect the child's life. Cynthia voted against it. Michelle and Barry are fervently against the Live Birth Protection act.
Hillary voted for the Protection.
McCain is obviously Pro choice.

well NewHampster, just think how i feel.  this is one of the most historic times of my life, and i am being cheated out of it.  i may never live to see this come again so i will just have to sit on the sidelines and watch.  i can't vote for nobama because he is a crook and liar.  this man is messed up, and not only that, i believe he suffers from at least two personality disorders, narcissism, and megalomania.  there is something serious wrong with this man.  he has addressed no issues of interest to me or my community, and yet he expects to garner my vote.  he did not visit katrina victims that i could find, did not go to memphis, and did not go to jena.  and chicago?  need i go there?  rezko, housing wrongs, maytag?  then there's his counterpart on the other side.  i know that he's reaching out, but how do you erase all the previous years his party spent hating you?  how do you know that's over?  sadly, you don't.  i am an african american woman with nowhere to go, no political home to speak of anymore.  i am now an independent, perhaps til the day i die.  my party has effectively told me it does not need my dried up vagina to vote for them, so i am keeping it home.  i am a Hillary supporter, and while i will continue to keep up with what's going on, it pains me not to have a political home of any kind, to know that the party i was born into has rejected me and was destroyed so i cannot go back.  you may have mccain if you decide to vote for him, but i cannot.

I only know who I can't vote for (0.00 / 0)
But I have 3 months to decide who if anyone I do vote for.  Odds are a Hillary write in but 3 months is how long the primaries were.

Even thinking about voting McCain makes me ill, Jazzylady. (0.00 / 0)
Right now, I'd vote a write-in for Hillary Clinton.  Can't vote Obama and won't.

I feel exactly the same way you do and wish the Democratic Party hadn't cheapened itself like this.  Truly disgusting, the lot of them who sold their souls for Obama.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

I feel for you and am sorry. I share many of your thoughts about this being a historic time for hillary and worry about not seeing her in the whitehouse. Dont give up please. We need to try and keep things together for 2012, I am sure she will be back then, the clintons are tenacious!! we need to be as well:)
