Wrapped in the Flag

But it WASN'T just a Tshirt: Gallup Daily: Obama 45%, McCain 44%
The race for the presidency has moved back into a statistical tie in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update of national registered voters, with Barack Obama now ahead of John McCain by just one point, 45% to 44%.

PPIC: Obama Holds Large Lead in California (Political Wire )
The latest Public Policy Institute of California survey shows Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain in the nation's most populous state, 50% to 35%.

Obama up in swing states, but not by much (by David Lightman at Hot off the Trail, McClatchy)
Barack Obama has a slight lead in Ohio and Florida, while he's well ahead of John McCain in Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac poll of swing states released Thursday found. "Florida and Ohio are too close to call," the polling firm said. Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is up 46-44 in Florida, down slightly from his lead last month. In Ohio, Obaham is also up 46-44, also down. And in Pennsylvania, Obama leads 49-42, down from his 12 percentage point advantage over McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, in the last poll. The three states are crucial to both candidates' chances. No president since 1960 has won without taking two of the three states.

The first signs of a backlash against Senator Barack Obama have emerged in the American media, which has up until now mostly greeted his candidacy with garlands of praise.

he's playing from the old book (0.00 / 0)
thinking looking presidential is all he needs.  He can beat McCain on the issues, if he'd just get clear about what he'll do so voters would know.   He needs to promote his team of experts, the people he's asked to join him based on knowledge and experience, not merely loyalty. I think it's time for him to weed out the early cheerleaders who haven't much to offer.

Of course he would make himself look serious and able if he'd ask Hillary onto his ticket.  Are there polls about who'd vote for him were she on the ticket too?  I know one who would love to vote for her and would feel far better about him if he were man enough to admit that half the voters maybe know something he doesn't and listen to us.

I like this one:
Democracy is confrontational. (by John: south of Melrose at Liberal Rapture)
I don't believe in "positive" campaigns. Let me explain - I think the idea of positive versus negative campaigns is a strawman. I am thinking about this tonight because the presumptive Democratic nominee's campaign won't stop emailing me and asking for money. Their theme today is "the low road" - meaning McCain is taking this alleged low road - and implying that they are not. This is false...

Researching one's opponent is not negative.
Questioning one's opponent is not negative.
Calling one's opponent out on what he/she has done is not negative
Calling one's opponent out on what he/she has said is not negative.
Calling one's opponent out on what he/she claims to have done but hasn't is not negative.
Calling one's opponent out of what are clearly lies is not negative.

In fact, it is the duty of candidates to question and highlight facts about their opposition, especially if the 4th estate refuses outright to do so... Everyone who is running for POTUS, everyone who has ever run for POTUS, and everyone who ever will run for POTUS is flawed. Though I just said it - this goes without saying. We have every right and a solemn duty to JUDGE those flaws and decide if they render a candidate untrustworthy or unfit to lead.

Also the Andy Borowitz one on Paris and Britney running an ad of their own against McCain was great.

Thanks for the good words, catfish! (0.00 / 0)

CA polls (0.00 / 0)
I'm not so sure that CA is in the bag for Obama. My feeling is that the polls will tighten in CA when the Latino vote begins to swing for McCain.
