We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

Comment From Daniel Kagan / Delegates Petition Drive

by: Alegre

Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 02:02:08 AM EDT

I talked about the effort to pull together the 300 delegates needed on that nominating petition below the fold in an earlier post re San Francisco and the video of Hillary.  I sent a link to that earlier post to Daniel Kagan, who's one of the delegate spearheading this effort, and he sent me the following for inclusion in this post...

"I don't understand the delegates who refuse to sign the petition. Their words pay lip service to democracy, but their actions say 'I won't vote for Clinton, and, by not signing the petition, I'm making sure you won't vote for her either.'  Now, how can that be right? I would respect them far more if they took a leaf out of Voltaire's book and said 'Though I don't agree with the way you intend to vote, I will fight to the death for your right to vote that way. Give me that pen!'"

So it's time to put up or shut up when it comes to all this talk about unity folks.  You say you want us to get behind your guy.  We're telling you the best way to bring us aboard is to include Hillary's name on the ballot in Denver.  Show us your words aren't empty by signing on to this nominating petition - even if you don't plan to vote for her.

Prove to us that you're all about an open and fair convention.  Otherwise - we'll know you don't mean it when you tell us you want to reunify our party.

The ball's in your court folks - what are you going to do with it?

they're destroying democracy in order to save it. (0.00 / 0)
see, right now we're in the period of the dictatorship of the obamatariat. the people just need a little more guidance before they're capable of picking their leaders without assistance.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

oh, and on a related note... (0.00 / 0)
...the new book by Jerome Corsi, The Obama Nation, seems to be having a little trouble getting stocked in bookstores. it seems employees are taking it upon themselves to limit its availability.

the obama fan base learned this from the bush administration, who is SO concerned about pharmacist's moral beliefs that they give them the option of refusing to sell birth control pills.  same principle with books, i guess. ideas are dangerous things.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Wow - they've sunk to a new low.

Next thing you know they'll be holding book-burning rallies.

It's Ferenheit 541 all over again! :o(

Jerome Corsi (0.00 / 0)
This is the same guy who was so instrumental in swift-boating John Kerry. My distaste for that mudfest makes it hard to be sympathetic toward him now.

and his thesis (0.00 / 0)
that Obama is really a socialist liberal is way off.  All though that's what BHO's progressive base believes too. Amazing that Corsi and Obama progressive are in agreement on something!

Though I hope Corsi's book brings attention to Obama's earlier campaigning for his cousin over in Kenya.  That hasn't got much traction with MSM yet.

[ Parent ]
damn, i WISH he were a socialist liberal. (0.00 / 0)
it certainly would make it easier to support him. the sad truth is that in order to have a consistent political position, you need to have beliefs and principles, and obama doesn't have any.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

That Odinga thing (Kenya) is huge (0.00 / 0)
It's a really big deal. And no, we're not saying Obama is a secret Muslim. We're saying he got played by his Muslim cousin. Scratch that - we're just saying he got played by his own cousin.

[ Parent ]
oh, ok. didn't know that. (0.00 / 0)
strange how the same people keep popping up every four years.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

until enough of them sign on to Danie's nominating petition.

Seriously - it used to be that getting your name on a nominating petition for a candidate was a badge of honor.  Something only the big-shots got to do.  Only 50 delegates from each state's delegation got a shot at this and now here we are, having to convince Hillary's own delegates to stand up to the thugs at the DNC and BHO's camp to say they want a real choice in Denver.

What have they done to our party??!!

Can anyone tell me (0.00 / 0)
how many delegates total eligible to sign this petition? I mean if 300 minimum are needed (but they will accept up to 600), how many could refuse and we are still "go" here?

Thanks a million (um... 18 million) for your tons of work, Alegre. 2:00 a.m. and you well deserve a good night's sleep. Smile from your heart and let it go for a few hours!

All (0.00 / 0)
DNC delegates are eligible under the rules.

This really is the time for Obama dels to pony up, as Daniel says. Are they for a unified party? Are they for unified state delegations?

And the superdelegates? Do they want to make sure legally bound delegates can not vote as they were elected to do?

[ Parent ]
As rough figures, (0.00 / 0)
I came up with:

4,234 total delegates to the Democratic National Convention,

including 825 superdelegates, maybe 150 of whom haven't stated who they're for.

NYT website shows Clinton with 1,920 delegates
(1,640 pledged + 280super).

So if 25% of those 1,640 sign, thats 410 sigs.
........20%...........................................328......

I may not agree with you (0.00 / 0)
But I will fight to the death for your right to speak out.

Can there be any other more distinctly and quintessentially....   American  set of priorities ever articulated?

I think not.

It's what I thought we all agreed on.

Until now.

we have given Barack (0.00 / 0)
a big unity opportunity. He can now show that he respects Hillary's supporters. LIke retiring the debt, an opportunity he let pass by him, he can ask his delegates to sign the petition. It's still up to Hillary and she has already said she'd make that decision with Barack, not in opposition to Barack, but that she thinks, rightly, that a 'unity' vote is necessary at the convention.  I want it. I accept that Barack is our candidate and that we'll sink or swim with him, I accept that the super's chose the one that has the lesser chance of winning the GE, I accept that we might get McCain as our next president because of this decision, I accept that Barack's message is only now sinking in, although he's said it before and it's no change from what he started out saying, and that his message doesn't seem realistic to many, but I'll vote for him and hope he wins.  But, if he wants me to vote gladly, he'll show that he can learn and he is what he says he is, and he'll ask all his delegates to sign the petition. Would that not be a wonderful unity moment?

List of delegates (0.00 / 0)
Did not know where to post this- but I found the list of ALL the delegates certified by each state, nicley listed by state, in alphabetical order! I am using the PA lsit to call and urge the Erie delegation to sign the petition. Others can look up the delegates for their own state and district. (Nutter is pledged Hillary too- God Bless him- hope somebody got him to sign the petition.) I am going to start with Sinot, Divecchio and Rubye Husband-Jenkins- all of whom are very strong Clinton backers.

Here is the link- provided by none other than the Dem Convention website! hurry- before Bo has it scrubbed!

thanks- I am just not shy! Forward, brazen, brash, loud- all have been applied to me at one time or another. But I will speak truth and I WILL be heard! (I have a great role model- you know- that woman we all voted for- the one who inspires such loyalty?)

Wow, (0.00 / 0)

thanks! This is a great link for the delegates list.  Can you put this up in a diary so more people can make use of it?  I'm struck by how many categories there are for the delegates.  I looked up NH, and there were six different types listed!

Can we get in to hear Hillary speak Aug 26th (0.00 / 0)
On Aug 26. the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage, the Hill will speak at the Dem convention in Denver.  PUMA told me there is no chance to get a ticket to hear her.  But others, the DNC, are saying there are free tickets to the convention.  Please somebody tell me.  Is there any chance people can get tickets to be there with Hillary AUG 26TH?
