Time To Get Worried? Yes.

Joe Sudbay, posting over at John Aravosis' blog, is getting worried. So is John, and John drank so much Kool-Aid his tongue is purple. See, Obama consolidated power in the democratic movement, shutting down independent 527s like MoveOn by discouraging his campaign supporters from contributing to them. In Obama's business model, all money goes through Chicago, and he'll run the show. That may not have been a smart idea... listen to Joe:

I've had a bad feeling about the direction of the campaign for the past couple weeks. We've been saying for months that McCain and the GOP would go negative, very negative. No surprise. That is what's happening. Karl Rove and his crew are at their best destroying people and they're running the show now. The latest tracking polls seem to indicate that McCain's negative attacks are having an impact. The corollary is that Obama's response hasn't been working, or at least it hasn't been enough. That needs to change, fast.

...and John:

Obama seems pretty much on his own in facing down McCain's increasingly nasty attacks ...the conventional wisdom is that the best way to respond to these kind of attacks is to respond in kind, and blow them out of the water ...

You do that with the candidate himself sometimes, ...but more often you use outside groups and surrogate members of Congress, and other third parties, like the blogs, talk radio, etc. But in this case, our outside groups were shut down a few months ago, so they're gone, and many of their staff, some of the top political people in town, aren't even working on the election at all now. As for Democratic Senators and House Members, they've been oddly silent over the past week or two, and at least don't seem part of any larger, public, and coordinated strategy to counterattack.

It's no mystery to me why Congressional Democrats are quiet. They are supporting Obama, knowing he'll lose, so that they can get their hands on his money and donor list. Usually, Democrats snatch defeat from the jaws of victory after Labor Day. This one was a done deal by Memorial Day, it seems.

As they used to tell fighters when the Mob needed to make a little money, "Obama, it's just not your night."

and I don't recall another election where so many VP possibilities have put out public statements that they are absolutely not interested in being on the Dem ticket.  What to make of that?

Would You Climb On a Sinking Ship? (0.00 / 0)
They know he's going to lose and no one wants to jump aboard a sinking ship.

I don't blame them really.

BHO needs to swallow his peide and ask Hillary to help him win this thing.  She's the ONLY one who can pull a rabbit out of a hat for him.  Anyone else would be a sure loser.

Sinking ship . . . (0.00 / 0)
I have to say that I still want a full and fair roll-call vote at the Convention - and Hillary nominated as President.

But if we can't make that happen I'd sleep better knowing there's a grown-up in the WH with him.

It would be better for Hillary to stay in the Senate, where she can do more good work and have her own voice.  If McCain wins, he'll be through in 4 years, and then she would have a really good shot at POTUS.  If she goes on ticket and wins it for BHO, either he'll be in there for 8 years (or up to 10 according to the One Himself).  It may be too late for Hillary in another eight years. Or, his administration won't do well; in which case, it's back to Repubs in 4 years.

Also if she's stuck in the VP office, an Obama Administraion would probably keep her busy just doing funerals.  He has too big an ego to let her do much of anything, and anything she did do would be behind the scenes and he'd take credit.

as a career move for her? definitely. (0.00 / 0)
but if hillary thinks she can get more done from the VP position, she'll take it. she's all about service. of course, she's smart enough to get a very clear understanding of obama's idea of what the VP's role would be.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

get more done (0.00 / 0)

I seriously doubt she can get more done as VP in an Obama Administration.  In the Senate she'll have more freedom to speak out and push important needed legislation.  As VP it will just be funerals-city and other comparable activities. And she will give better service to the country as POTUS in four years instead of VP for eight.

it's getting more depressing (0.00 / 0)
He needs to have control, or so he thinks, to manage his message, but the control is the opposite of his message. Either he knows all and we just trust him, like sure, or he listens to the bottom and we guide him. Can't have it both ways.

They want to lose (0.00 / 0)
That has been my theory since early 2007.  Nobody wants to be the one to take over from shrub.  The situation is basically unfixable so the repubs really want the dems to win so they can get it back in 4 years.

How ironic that the only person ready, willing and able to get the job done has been cheated out of being our nominee.

Beyond disgusting.  With the millions who desperately need healthcare, and the tens of thousands (more) at risk of losing their homes, they cheating us out of competent leadership.

We can't afford four more years of Hell. (0.00 / 0)
And with either Obama or McCain, we get that -- Hell.

That's why it's disgusting and depressing beyond belief that Hillary Clinton is not our presumptive nominee right now.  And that the DNC stacked the deck against her -- to what purpose? -- in order to keep her out.

We need Hillary Clinton because she has the unique skill set to get us out of this mess; she has a real shot to do it, and do it fast, whereas Obama will never be able to do it and McCain can't do it either.

Right now, with Hillary Clinton out of this race as the DNC required her to be, we have the choice between the honorable but stale McCain (with the wrong policies for the country), or the young, indifferent and inexperienced Obama (with the wrong policies for the country.)

What kind of a choice is that?

Hillary Clinton -- NOW!!!

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

She LOVES this stuff, problem-solving. She is no avoider. (0.00 / 0)
Some avoid conflict, and there's a fine line between wanting people to work together and conflict-avoidance. Conflict-avoidance is unhealthy.

They want to lose ... (0.00 / 0)
You know, I agree with you here.  It took me about a year longer than you to figure it out, but it sure looks that way to me.  Earlier this year I often thought that perhaps the Dems don't want to win the Presidency this year; only to leave it to the Repubs to get us out of Iraq (if they even would).

Hey, this fix was on May 31, 2008, the day the DNC stole delegates from HRC. The DNC is going with their man, no matter what, no matter what the polls say, and no HRC as VP. Health Care and other issues will have to be championed from the Senate Floor by HRC.

The many HRC supporters will continue doing what we have to do in correcting the injustices done by the DNC. I believe the latter (we)will prevail. The one thing that I hope we can remember in November, make the people at the DNC who were responsible for our party split accountable.

John Aravosis, all I have to say (0.00 / 0)
to you is HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  What did you expect?
