I Think I Figured It Out

by: Alegre

Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 12:56:40 PM EDT

People have been asking for months now why the DNC and Howard Dean have been doing everything humanly possible to keep Hillary out of the White House.  Well folks I think I've finally put my finger on the reason.

For all their talk and bluster about how they want to change how things are done in DC, they're really quite happy with the status quo.  They like the lack of accountability and oversight because - well let's face it - even though they're Democrats they want things to continue on just - the - way - they - are.

Hillary's Op Ed in today's Wall Street Journal gives us a glimpse into what some of Hillary's priorities would be if she made it to the Oval Office and I'm guessing Howie et al wouldn't like this.  Not one little bit...

No Crisis Is Immune From Exploitation Under Bush

If we're going to get serious about putting our nation's fiscal house in order, let's talk about putting an end to billions in no-bid contract awards to unaccountable contractors. Let's talk about the number of lucrative contracts and bonuses being paid for duties never performed, promises never fulfilled, and contracts falsely described as complete. And let's talk about reforming the federal contracting system so that we can take on the real waste, fraud and abuse in our federal government.

Truman took on the war profiteers because he understood that when the lives of Americans hang in the balance, we cannot afford to misuse even a single dollar. In the Democratic Congress, we've proposed a new Truman Committee to address the waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan that has already taken place, a proposal stymied by the president and his allies. And my proposal would prevent waste, fraud and abuse in future contracting.

Of course, we need far more than a Truman Committee. We need the Truman spirit in the White House, where the buck finally stops.

Make the jump - there's more...

Alegre :: I Think I Figured It Out
Now given BHO's record of reversing himself on just about every issue out there, can people really see him saying something like this and then actually following through on it once he's in office?  For all his talk of change I think Dean et al have him figured out and they're as confident as I am that he wouldn't change much if elected.

But Hillary... now that's a whole other story altogether.  We've seen her grit and determination over the years - especially when it comes to our troops and the equipment, working conditions and benefits that they've been cheated out of because of these no-bid contracts and the cronyism.  If I've learned one thing about her over the years it's that she's a woman of her word when it comes to our troops and their well-being.  And if she says she's going to root out the corruption and the waste then you can bet your bottom dollar she'll do it.

Dean et al might be happy with the status quo, but there are over 47 million people without health insurance who could really use the resources being wasted on these no-bid contracts and the cronyism that's been allowed to run rampant here in DC for far too long.

There are millions more out of work - people who are losing their homes as we speak because they ran out of money after getting that pink slip.  They could really use the money being wasted in DC.

Our bridges and roads need fixing.  The money being wasted could be better spent on building up our nation's infrastructure.

Gas & heating oil cost too much and we desperately need to develop cheaper, cleaner, and renewable sources of energy.  The money being wasted in DC could go to developing that.

Schools need improving - why not use the money being wasted in DC to educate our kids?

Families are living in poverty - why use the money being wasted in DC to help elevate the impoverished in our society?

I could go on all day with this list.  Rather than continue lining the pockets of the rich and well-connected, we should clean up DC's act and use the money to lift people up.  Hillary gets that you guys.  And she wants to make things happen rather than pay lip service to what she knows we want to hear.

People have been promising this for decades.  BHO's just another politician who'll say anything - do anything to win over those who can help him get what he wants.  He's shown us that time and time again with the way he's distanced himself from family and friends (that underside of that bus is getting pretty crowded) and reversed himself on the important issues of the day.

Hillary's a woman of her word - if she says she'll get something done then you can take that to the bank and that's what Howard Dean, Donna Brazile and Nancy Pelosi are afraid of.

That's why they chose someone with little or no experience and who will in all likelihood lose to the GOP candidate this fall.  They like things just the way they are and they will do anything to make sure nothing changes.

It's time we called them on it dammit.  It's time the superdelegates put a stop to this BS and backed the one Democrat who'll make it to the White House, roll up her sleeves and make things happen.

Hat tip to Texan4Hillary for finding this article and posting it here earlier.

the question is, when are we going to start fixing these problems? (0.00 / 0)
now, or in another four years? another eight years?

health costs are going to keep going up by double digits every year the current broken system is in place.

energy shortages are getting ready to change our lifestyles forever - and the oil companies keep putting money in their pockets.

we only lost one major bridge last year - let's wait until they start falling down at the rate of one a month, shall we?

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

There's No Time to Waste (0.00 / 0)
Hillary gets that.

Sadly, Dean and many supers know BHO won't win and they're willing to sacrifice our one shot at winning the WH for his mailing list.

Ya see... they want to line their pocket at our expense as well.

Everyones getting rich while familes get tossed out onto the street.

Politicians are getting rich while people die waiting for access to a doctor and affordable healthcare.

How in the hell do those people sleep at night????

I agree and have said it several times (0.00 / 0)
the Corporations own DC and both parties are so much alike now. Maybe it's also the reason why Repugs hate Hillary so much too. She's the whistle blower amongst them all.

Having been a whistle blower in the past it is a lonely road less traveled.

If Hillary isn't on the ballot I will go with Nader. I like whistle blowers. They sing to me.

I've been thinking this for months, Alegre. And it is becoming more and more obvious with every passing day that Obama is the status quo. He will throw aside his supposed beliefs at the drop of a hat. Whichever way the wind is blowing is the way he'll go. He doesn't stand for anything. He doesn't care if people have health care or not. Personally, I doubt that he would have the spine to even pass his own flawed health care plan were he to somehow win in November. But what really scares me is all his advisors who are drooling at the thought of social security privatization. He is a disaster waiting to happen, and I'm glad to see that more and more people are waking up to that fact.

Alegre, it is the BEST DIARY YOU'vE WRITTEN (0.00 / 0)
Their scared do death, that HER and BILL together, will do the REAL CHANGING<

The killing off of the working people, would end, the Greedy rich becoming richer would end, People without hope and help, would END

THAT'S always been why, and anyone with the DNC in power positions would END-----

alot of ending to DEAD ENDS, with the CLINTONS

Who are the LOSERS, US, the people

I still can't bring my self to vote for Obama, he just sickens me.

Our depression can start after the convention, in the meantime, Let's keep up the fight, and PRAY TO GOD, he crashes and Burns, before the convention.

I wasn't very respectful either (0.00 / 0)
But it's hard to show respect when you don't trust someone.

I cannot open it:  it's called 18 million cracks.

Anyone else has it can you send it to youtube

PS  They asked for a donation, which I've been doing faithfully through PUMA

Crazy, I'm so paranoid about BO being on her site,

I don't know if it's legit.

It's very STRANGE for her to do this.

What do you think

the Truman spirit in the White House (0.00 / 0)
Hello everybody,
I'm another traumatized Democrat hoping that Hill will fight to the very end for the nomination.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking but the last 2 lines of Hillary's WSJ article sent a tingle...

"Of course, we need far more than a Truman Committee. We need the Truman spirit in the White House, where the buck finally stops."

I think Hillary is working her way to seriously fighting for the nomination. She certainly didn't mean Obama as "...the Truman spirit in the White House, where the buck finally stops." In my mind those 2 sentences could ONLY describe Hillary. I think she meant it as a challenge to the nomination. What do you think ?

DNC & BO are owned by the corporatists (0.00 / 0)

The Democratic leaders sold out to corporate interests years ago. That's why Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy and Kerry voted for the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, the bill that killed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 which was the only thing standing in the way of the mortgage abuses we've seen in recent years. The present sorry state of our economy was made possible by that vote.

Courageous Dems who voted Nay were Boxer, Bryan, Dorgan, Feingold, Harkin, Mikulski, and Wellstone. One Repub joined them, Shelby, and the sole non-voting member was John McCain.

The Dem sellouts want the money they can get from the financial institutions that are wreaking havoc with the economy. You really want to trust the economy to these people? Obama is a corporate shill. Both the Dem party leaders and the Repubs are scared to death of Hillary so they did everything in their power to negate and nullify her candidacy. They used every trick in the book and when those weren't sufficient, they invented new ones.

I'm not sure there are enough SDs to save the day since many of them are at the trough pigging out. They need to be shamed into doing the right thing.

Country before party.

I agree with all of what you've said (0.00 / 0)
Many of us have seen and was aware of the Corporations running our country for years now. Somehow I naively thought it was mostly the republicans that were corrupted by the power and greed. But since the SELECTION of Obama it became glaringly obvious to me that MY party was just as corrupted.

Another unbelievable corrupted group are the drug companies, who have more lobbyists than other corps. If you haven't read  OUR DAILY MEDS I urge you to read it. You will be shocked and so disgusted at the FRAUD the drug companies have been doing with our medications- like actually testing them with drs indebted or working for the drug companies. And blatantly disregarding dangerous results, And with the defunct barely working FDA...Just please read this book especially if you're taking meds, have sick family member on drugs or if you wonder about ridilan, prozac, paxil...etc., etc., We are being murdered, controlled, and used as guniea pigs for money. Just Money.
