We're Flattered Howie - Really We Are (Updated)

by: Alegre

Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 21:14:52 PM EDT

I know I've already covered this a bit today, but I've got a few more things to say to our party chairman by way of clarification - just so there isn't any confusion about who's behind the nominating petition...

Hey Howard, I hear you're telling people that the effort to gather delegate signatures on a petition to put Hillary's name into nomination at our convention is one driven by PUMAs.  We're flattered Howie - seriously, thanks for the compliment, but we really can't take credit for the hard work and effort of others.

This nominating petition is driven by her - you know - DELEGATES - people who were credentialed to attend our convention and represent millions of Hillary's voters.  Seriously, man - take a look at the press release I posted the other day and you tell me if you see ANY mention of PUMA there, or if you see any of our names listed as contacts.  It's a press release - news outlets report on or publish info off things like this all the time. That's doesn't mean MSNBC is behind everything they post about BHO's crooked campaign.

To quote campskunk from our earlier thread...

The petition is organized by delegates, and is being signed by delegates. These delegates are legally elected or appointed representatives of the democratic voters in the party's primaries. How is it a PUMA petition? Is howie going to start stripping delegates of their voting and petitioning rights by trying to smear them as PUMAs? This is looking more and more like a witch hunt.

Howard, let's get one thing straight here and now - this is about duly elected and credentialed delegates petitioning their party for an equal voice at our convention.  They represent millions of Democrats, and for you to dismiss them with these lies is beyond insulting.

Alegre :: We're Flattered Howie - Really We Are (Updated)
We (as bloggers) may be encouraging delegates to get in touch with the people behind this effort (delegates, Howard - delegates) but we are not the ones collecting the signatures.  We are not the ones who'll be presenting those signatures to Hillary for her approval.  We are not the ones looking for the right to vote in Denver.

This was an effort started by delegates, on behalf of other delegates and the people they represent, and on behalf of our candidate.  Thousands of people will be coming to our convention having expressed their support for Hillary in the primaries.  They've earned the right to cast a vote for Hillary.  They may not win, but it's wrong for you or anyone else to deny them this historic opportunity.

The delegates behind this effort represent us as voters.  Period.  But they're doing this on their own and they got started on this effort long before anyone coined the term PUMA.  Don't you dare take their hard work and effort away from them.

UPDATE

See, Howie? Even ABC says that delegates are behind this petition drive...

Susan Castner, a Clinton delegate from Portland, Ore., is gathering the 300 signatures from delegates that Clinton would need in case she decides she wants to be part of convention balloting.

"We will have this in hand for Sen. Clinton, should this be needed," said Castner, who said that she's already gathered about half the necessary signatures.

Castner said she and many other Clinton supporters will only feel as if their voices are being heard if they are allowed to vote for Clinton on a first ballot.

"It's been a tradition since the late 1800s -- it's a nominating convention, you vote, you nominate someone, and you come out unified. I don't see how alienating 1,800 delegates gives you party unity when we walk out of the stadium," she said. "Hillary delegates feel like we're not welcome, needed, or valued."

"I cannot believe that Sen. Clinton, after putting in that much time, energy and effort, would just say, ' Nah, take my name out,' " Castner said.

Howard Dean is one big disappointment. (0.00 / 0)

I have friends in Vermont that would belong to the progressive category, actually some of them are the knee-jerk wingnut type.  I remember when I first heard of Dean's run for president in '04, I called a couple of my friends up, thinking they would be so excited about their governor.  Their response really surprised me.  They said something like, well don't get too enthusiastic; he's not what he seems to be; he's disappointed a lot of people in Vermont as Governor; he's really screwed the small farmers, etc., etc.

anyway, even though he was not my own choice in '04, I still thought he's a pretty good person.  but this election has been a shocker. He's the worst head of the DNC ever. He's so incompetent it's pathetic.  My friends in Vermont knew the quality of his character.  They were spot on.

I am not a Puma (0.00 / 0)
but I did vote for Clinton in our primary which she won with 56 % of the vote.  If that 56 % is not given totally equal access to the nomination process at the convention, that is, that Clinton's name be given total equality with Obama's in being nominated, and my vote and the 56 % truly spoken for, I repeat, I will do everything in my power to defeat Obama, and our jr senator (Kerry) who is up for re-election. And I have a 'few' partners who feel as I do.

well, you may not be a puma... (0.00 / 0)
...but your spots are showing ;-)

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Your handle is gender neutral and I was never really sure. Thank you, I've been confused. Let me revise my list:

My favorites boy PUMAs are Campskunk, New Hampster, Pacific John, Will Bower, and Joseph Cannon.

I've always wanted to tell you that your handle is my all time favorite. How did you choose "Campskunk" -- I just love it.

I can't figure out what qualifies someone as a PUMA. (0.00 / 0)
I don't know if I am one or not, but I know I have no desire to unify around Obama. However, I am not actively trying to defeat him other than running my mouth and my fingers.

I Think We're in the Same Boat (0.00 / 0)
But the more I hear the less I think I could ever vote for the guy.

I'm certainly open to what the puma folks have to say so I'm leaning toward that end of the spectrum big time.

You are probably a PUMA if (0.00 / 0)
1. ...you are a Clinton.
2. ...you are a Democrat who left all the kool-aid soaked, fauxgressive blogs.
3. ...you are a Democrat that yells at the TV, radio, or blogs at any mention of Obama.
4. ...you are a Democrat that doesn't support Obama as the party nominee.
5. ...you are a Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent that doesn't support Obama as the Democratic party nominee.
6. ...you are a Democrat or Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent that now watches FOX News and boycotts CNN, MSNBC, and the Obama lovin' networks.
7. ...you are a Democrat or Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent that has been called a racist, Dixiecrat, Republican, Republican operative, Republican troll, and/or Hillary dead-ender.
8. ...you are a Democrat or Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent and you hang out at The Confluence, No Quarter, and/or Alegre's Corner.
9. ...you are a Democrat or Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent who has a blog listed on the Just Say No Deal coalition website.
10. ...you are a Democrat or Democrat that has re-registered as an Independent who wants a floor fight in Denver and for Hillary to win the nomination!

Well, I did reregister, and I do sortof match (0.00 / 0)
the last 5, but I don't have wiskers.  Well, at least not at exactly the same place that a PUMA does.

In fact I reregistered, and sent a long message to Howie about it, but he didn't even care.

Howie's calculated disinformation campaign is wearing thin. (0.00 / 0)
Howie's been dismissing PUMAs as undercover Republican McCain supporters - is he now saying that the delegates signing the petition are undercover Republicans as well???? Come on Howie, if they're Republicans, you can strip them of their delegate status. I would pay good money to go to that hearing ;-)

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

He Shouldn't Talk About Republicans Voting in Our Elections (0.00 / 0)
BHO's the one who went after rethug votes in open primary caucus states.  Strip him of those delegates and he's screwed.

yeah, the obamazoids actually passed out two change of party forms. (0.00 / 0)
one to switch to democrat for the primary, and one to switch back to republican to vote for mccain in the general election. wasn't that nice of them?

those republicans are probably STILL laughing about how they maneuvered the democratic party into being poised to nominate such a loooooooser.

Does this sound familiar

This will be considered off-topic - but it isn't. I thought I'd share this letter which was sent to the Editor of the Times-Dispatch by a gentlemen who escaped Cuba in the 1960's. His words come from the experience of believing in someone, without taking the time to know who they really are, and the consequences that followed:

Subject: Celebration

From Richmond Times-Dispatch, Monday, July 7, 2008

Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch:

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4, I celebrate America 's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, so when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, 'Praise the Lord.' And when the young leader said, 'I will be for change and I' ll bring you change,' everone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!'

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America ?

Would we?

But really, aren't all Hillary Delegates (0.00 / 0)
just trouble makers and not legitimate delegates? They are all PUMAs because they aren't Obama delegates and are therefore are not for party unity.  All others than BO delegates are working against the New democratic party.  If they were for party unity, they wouldn't have run as Hillary delegates in the first place.  So, technically, Howie must be right.

the thing that's working against unity is the obama campaign, not hillary supporters. (0.00 / 0)
you couldn't start supporting obama soon enough to avoid suspicion. ask the members of the black congressional caucus. even after people switched from hillary to obama, they're still getting threats.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Howard Dean is an idiot, really and truly. (0.00 / 0)
Can't believe how stupid he's behaved.  And it keeps going on and on and on.

The DNC is the biggest waste of time ever, followed only by Obama and his campaign staff.

Reality exists, Howard.  Get over it, get with the program, and let's get on -- just because it's not your program, well . . . it's the real program, and you can either be on board with us, or end up under the bus.

This is what you've told us, so . . . how do you like them apples?

Hillary Clinton -- NOW!!! (As President, and accept no substitutes.  Really, Howard -- what's so difficult about this to understand?  She won the popular vote and will win the Electoral College easily; Obama lost the popular vote and will lose the Electoral College badly.  You have set this in motion, Howard -- you, and Donna Brazile, and whoever else is in this cabal of the DNC's.  This is your fault and we will not ever forget.)

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

"Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in. When you stumble, keep faith. When you?re knocked down, get right back up. And NEVER listen to anyone who says you can't or shouldn't go on."
