We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

Hoo Boy. Now We're "Those People".

by: campskunk

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 15:31:07 PM EDT

Remember when using the phrases "you people" and "those people" meant a horde of Obamazoid banshees would try to take your head off for being "racist"? Well, those days are over, praise The One™. Dear Leader himself used the term to refer to all those not within the sacred folds of The Movement™. From The Page...

Obama gaggled with reporters on his plane between Minneapolis and Chicago. He made brief opening remarks underscoring his energy message of the week before taking questions.

Obama was pressed repeatedly to say whether or not he'd grant Clinton a speaking role at the convention. All he'd say is they're staffs are talking. "I spoke to Senator Clinton this week, she's campaigning for me in Nevada and Florida and she's very enthusiastic about the need for a unified party and I think we're going to have a terrific convention, as is true with all conventions we're still working out the mechanics of the four days and our staff is in communications with Senator Clinton's staff but I don't anticipate any problems," he said.

"There hasn't been controversy other than what you guys are projecting right now," Obama added. When asked about reports of angry Hillary supporters, Obama said: "We're not talking to those people and we're talking to directly to the Clinton campaign people and it has gone seamlessly."

It's refreshing to know we're now "those people", and that we're no longer worth talking to. If Obama is stupid enough to believe that talking to Hillary will solve his PUMA problem, this is going to be an much uglier election for him than he ever imagined.

The Chinese solved their barbarian problem by building a wall. Maybe Obama needs to do the same. The big tent has been folded, and only true believers are still welcome.

Remember the confident young fellow who bragged, "I'm pretty sure I can get her supporters, but I'm not sure she can get mine"? Well, now he says that he doesn't need them.

U P D A T E :

Apparently, catharsis is a little too emotional or feminine for Obama - or maybe just too powerful and unpredictable. He doesn't like it. ghost2 found this tidbit:

"I'm letting our respective teams work out the details," Mr. Obama said. "I don't think we're looking for catharsis. I think what we are looking for is energy and excitement about the prospects of changing this country, and I think that people who supported a whole range of different candidates during the primaries are going to come out of that convention feeling absolutely determined that we have to take the White House back."

Well, Barack, having catharsis is like having babies. When it's time, you just have one. Sorry this is beyond your control, but people will be coming to the convention with all the emotional baggage the campaign - your campaign - gave them. "Sweetie", "You're likeable enough". "Hillary didn't cry for Katrina victims." Stuff like that. You reap what you sow.

what an immature little dweeb! Suggested responses:

"We understand many were very enthusiastic for Senator Clinton's candidacy, and we're talking with them to make for a unified party."

"We've talked with many supporters as well as Clinton campaign staffers and you will be surprised at how unified we are."

yes, he can't imagine anyone not liking him. (0.00 / 0)
if you don't agree with him on everything, it's obviously YOUR fault. no effort to strive for consensus, no accomodation, no outreach, no nothing. just anger. it's official campaign policy. sad.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Camp, (0.00 / 0)
As you know, the video that simofish posted last week is now getting lots of play.  Note Obama's answer (bold mine).

In a videotape circulating on YouTube, Mrs. Clinton, addressing supporters and some of her delegates last week, hinted that she might be favorable to allowing her name to be entered in nomination. There is an "incredible pent-up feeling," she says in response to a supporter's question, that needs, as in a Greek play, to be relieved by some kind of "catharsis."

One of those supporters asked what if, she somehow won a vote on the first ballot? While she said that would not happen, because the Democrats needed to be united behind Mr. Obama, she added: "The best way I think to do that is to have a strategy so that my delegates feel like they've had a role and that their legitimacy has been validated.

"It's as old as Greek drama. There's a catharsis. Everybody comes, and they want to yell and scream and have their opportunity and I think that's all to the good."

Asked about that notion, Mr. Obama was cautious. Though Mrs. Clinton's stock appears to be dropping in the speculation over the vice-presidential slot on the Democratic ticket, she is still a force to be reckoned with, controlling, at least in name, more than 1,600 pledged delegates, some of whom appear still to be unhappy about the way the primaries turned out.

Perhaps you may consider adding an update to your diary.  Seems like the battle lines are being drawn.

Of course they are being drawn (0.00 / 0)
By the media and the Obama campaign working in tandem. Again. That's what all of this hullabaloo has been about, and I saw it coming. I should have written a post about it. It was inevitable that, as soon as the Congress adjourned, the media pundits were going to say what they've been avoiding saying for so long: that this Convention is anything but a lock for Obama. And you just knew they were going to resurrect the Hillary straw man so they could beat up on her some more. I wouldn't be surprised if AxelRove wasn't rubbibg his grubby little hands with glee, watching for a bounce that he desperately needs.

"Those People" is the polite term for us. Jack Cafferty read a reader e-mail last night that called us an army of monsters, created by Hillary Clinton. (Warning: the link contains strong language)

I'm a Stantonian Democrat.

At least he'd taking some time off (0.00 / 0)
so see his grandmother, but also I hope to do some thinking. He phrases things badly and seems to show too much of his inner contempt.

Politics 1-A

He might have said, I'm not in direct contact with Hillary's supporters, but I'm hoping to win them over, but I'm speaking with Hillary on a regular basis, she's a great asset and we'll figure out together how best to bring her people on board, not just with votes, but with their amazing energy, thoughtfulness, and dedication to the platform.  She has an intelligent and active base of support, and I plan to do my best to unite all party members, and get everyone's voice heard.

So, he'll take some time, and maybe do some thinking and maybe even some soul searching.

Hillary - alternative energy

His high-level staff is very soft-spoken (0.00 / 0)
A person I know very very well has a good heart but happens to be a narcissist. He is one too, all the signs are there. He will not do that kind of thinking until he has to.

some things come from the character (0.00 / 0)
but there is also a leaning curve, and I'm hoping to speak to his learning curve. There is a saying in the recovery community, fake it till you make it.  I'll settle for the time being with him learning to be polite. There is much to be said for manners, they got humans through some very tough times.

It's his negative political IQ again at work here. (0.00 / 0)
Nothing -- literally nothing -- is going to change him.  :sigh:

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

Is he really going to see Granny? (0.00 / 0)

I hope she's not too dirty after being under the bus with all of us for so long?

Supposedly, he's post-partisan (0.00 / 0)
but he is incapable of talking to people in his own party who disagree with him.

Sounds like a petulant you-know-what, to me.

i remember 10 years ago when jeb bush made the same mistake. (0.00 / 0)
he sailed into office in 1998 and started the "no child left behind" bullshit, which angered the black community. two state legislators wanted to speak to him about it - kendrick meek and tony hill. he wouldn't meet with them... so they went and sat in his office. and wouldn't leave. jeb's staff turned out the lights and locked up the office at 5 pm - and they still sat there.

meek's staff smuggled in his cell phone charger in his dinner takeout bag, and kendrick and tony were on every latenight talk show in the state... all night long. it was a pr disaster for jeb- he backtracked immediately.

not talking to people isn't a good strategy. ask jeb ;-)

BHO is not too adept. (0.00 / 0)

I thought he is the one who is supposed to be such an artful speaker, a master of words.

His inexperience is showing all over the place.  He should have followed his own advice back after he was first elected to the Senate.  When asked in an interview about possibly running for president, he said no because "I'm a believer in knowing what you're doing when you apply for a job."   Right.  Just after 143 days of work in the Senate, his campaign for president started.

He's avoided groups, teamwork to this point (0.00 / 0)

...remember back on the big orange cheeto, when things weren't looking too good for obama? someone put a poll up asking whether people would still support the party if their candidate didn't get the nomination.

right now only 20-30% of hillary supporters are off the reservation, so apparently we're twice as good a democrat as the Obamazoids are.

Remember kos was on Dean's payroll in 2004, but he was not vociferous in disclosing that fact? Has anyone even asked if he's on Obama's?

[ Parent ]
i think kos learned his lesson on that Dean inceident. (0.00 / 0)
kos is probably looking for in-kind payment in web traffic by supporting obama, or some other indirect benefit. it's strictly a business decision.

He's probably still in Dean's pocket (0.00 / 0)
He's not thrilled with Obama but he had no choice cause the mantra was ANYONE BUT CLINTON; so they've settled for Obama with every intention to change the government. I agree with lots of things needing to be changed but having such a flawed candidate like Obama just doesn't make any sense to me, although its quite obvious that Obama is a puppet, unless Obama took advantage of the opportunity with his own ulterior motives. Thats the part that many of us are extremely concerned- who's playing who? Obama is so wishy washy he can't be pegged down to anything. That's dangerous in my opinion.

I guess our new label will be anarchists or the rebels or those shunned people.

I'm getting sick. After 8 years of being ignored and lied and cheated to, we have 4, hopefully not 8 years, of having to be 2nd class citizens again. I don't get it.

well, we know where we stand now, at least. (0.00 / 0)

Then again, that is not working for him with us.

He's been saying he doesn't need us (0.00 / 0)
for quite some time. But he's really like the guy you've turned down for a date, who has to pretend he doesn't want you to save face.

Face it, he knows he's pissed us off past the point of no return. He's trying to force Hillary out by using her party loyalty as a bludgeon.

We need to change Hillary's mind. Hillary or McCain. PUMA!

McCain for his off shore oil drilling stand.  I don't get it.  Isn't that BOs latest flip flop.  So are they "those people" now too?  I mean why don't they get with the program, and put out some Obama friendly ads, or at least ones that can't be used against him later on.  Unless of course, they've been thrown under the bus with the rest of those people.  Can't keep track anymore.

He calls his own children, "Those People" as well (0.00 / 0)
Asked about Obama fatigue and why he's ceding a week of press coverage to McCain Obama said:
"I'm going to see my grandma who I haven't seen in almost 18-19 months and who's getting to the age where I want to make sure I'm spending time with her on a consistent basis so that she can see her great grand children and I want to spend time with those children as well."

Have you ever heard of ANYONE calling their own kids, "those people"?

That totally creeps me out!

Off telepromter, (0.00 / 0)
he sounds a lot like Bush.  Even when gives a speech, I really don't know what the fuss is about.  I guess it's because I didn't hear the 2004 speech before I got to know him better.

Why not, "with them as well" ... sounds like he is stressed and is trying too hard.

This place needs an open thread.  I need a safe haven to band my head on the table again.

In my daily surfing, I wandered over to Political Flesh Feast (I don't really recommend it for everyone) and encountered this amazing sentence:

Barack Obama does not support the return of the Fairness Doctrine.
http://www.broadcastingcable.c...

"He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible,"

Um, isn't that what the Fairness Doctrine is all about?  Who the h ever supported this empty suit?  Nobama.

Happy 2B1 of "those people" (0.00 / 0)

"Those people" won't vote for him so he may well lose. What was a united party last year, ready to elect the first woman to lead this country out of the Bush jungle, has become fractured, split, and fragmented. Obama is the worst possible choice for these times because of who he is, not because of his race.

The same media that brought you Bush and the Iraq war are bringing you Obama.

The same Democrats who helped bring you this lousy economy are bringing you Obama.

Don't listen to any of them.
