What Are They So Afraid Of?

by: Alegre

And is this the mark of a strong and confident leader?

Guys the more I talk with people about this effort to pull in delegates for this nominating petition, the more disgusted I become with the control-freaks who've taken over our party.  Specifically, those thugs up in Chicago.

I recently talked with a couple of delegates and they were telling me some pretty hair raising stuff regarding the things the DNC and BHO's crowd are doing to try to bring them into line.  Lies, threats, out and out thuggery....

One delegate said they got a call from the 312 area code (Chicago) and the caller introduced themselves as being their new delegate liaison with the party.  When the delegate explained that they were a Hillary delegate and were already working with a liaison from Hillary's camp (see info in left margin of this site) they said "oh you can't - she quit [a lie] you have to work with me now.[another lie]"  This delegate insisted that they were going to Denver to vote for Hillary and the person in Chicago lost it and said they were "legally bound to vote for Obama [a real WHOPPER of a lie]".  That's when this delegate unloaded on them, but only for a short while - someone next to them reminded them of what happened to that delegate in Wisconsin and they made a quick excuse and hung up.

Over the next 4 days they got no less than 100 calls from the 312 area code. One hundred calls!  They had caller id and didn't answer the calls, but these heavy handed tactics tell us those thugs up in Chicago are scared and don't know what in the hell they're doing.

Newsflash! Lying and intimidation is no way to win over the hearts and minds of delegates.  Then again neither is stealing 59 delegates from Michigan, but that's for another diary.

Make the jump...

Alegre :: What Are They So Afraid Of?
So what are they so afraid of that feel they have to use these sorts of lies and intimidation to bring our party's delegates in line?

And what are they so afraid of that they feel they need to oppose an honest and open vote which includes both of our great candidates in the roll call at the convention?  What's up with this push for a roll call that excludes the candidate who won the most primary votes in our party's history, and represents over 18 million of us?

I mean seriously - are they that worried that if Hillary's on the ballot, we may in fact have convinced enough delegates and superdelegates that the best thing for our nation right now is to go with the one Democrat who will wrest control of the White House from the republicans, and get down to the vitally important work of heading off the economic meltdown that's building now - even as we type?

Ahhhhhhh... hang on now - I think I see what's got them up all night with worry.  They really are starting to sense a groundswell of support for Hillary.  They're afraid that the delegates will stop being ruled and controlled by fear, and are ready to break away and back a winner.  They're afraid that the delegates will stand up to the intimidation and bully tactics coming out of Chicago, and will tell those who call with threats to their political career one thing (that they'll vote for BHO), and then go to the convention and do the exact opposite (vote for Hillary) and the fall-out be damned.

The economic health of this nation is more important.

Stopping the foreclosures is more important.

Providing people with real options and access when it comes to healthcare is more important.

Bringing our troops out of Iraq is more important.

And ya know what?  The delegates are starting to understand that NONE of this will happen with BHO as our nominee.  You need to win the White House back before you can get down to doing the work for the people - rather than for the big corporate interests.

So yeah - the thugs up in Chicago are getting more than a little worried.  They're in over their head and they know the delegates are starting to take a fresh look at Hillary.

The real question is this - what's that say about BHO's potential as having a leadership style that differs in any way shape or form from that of Bush's if he's employing these tactics now, before he's our nominee?

Donna Brazile likes to talk about the things her momma taught her.  Well here's a bit of wisdom from my mom...

Girl if he's less than sweet to you when he's courting you, don't expect it to get any better once you're married.

Delegates - if he's pushing you around with intimidation, lies and - in some cases threats now, don't expect it to get any better if he (by some miracle) manages to beat McCain in November and becomes our next President.

Seriously - we've endured that kind of garbage from Bush and Cheney for 8 years.  Please don't saddle us with another administration that rules with a heavy fist while they arrange deck chairs on the Titanic.

lying and intimidation in the caucuses ... (0.00 / 0)
...is what kept the nomination contest close enough to steal for obama. why should he change tactics now?

i got my first door-to-door obama canvasser today - things got VERY frosty when i said i hadn't decided yet whether to vote for him. she asked why, and i mentioned the caucus fraud. things went RIGHT down to absolute zero when i mentioned that. i did it with an air of resignation... not confrontational at all.

maybe i better just tell these people i'll vote for him, regardless of how i feel about it. they know where i live.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Yeah, (0.00 / 0)
and the democratic party isn't going to fix caucuses.

That means disenfrachising:
the elderly,
shift workers,
Police,
firefighters,
military serving overseas,
single parents,
parents with small children,
the disabled,
....

Yeah, and there are people blogging and talking about how BO is better on issues because he has a D after his name.

Don't Give Them the Satisfaction (0.00 / 0)
I get DNC canvassers at our door from time to time and I think they know not to bother any more.

A friend of mine said her mom got a knock on her door recently, and she told the kid she wasn't voting for BHO.  Poor kid looked tired and dejected after they chatted about why he wasn't getting her vote.  She invited him in for a sandwich because she felt bad for having let loose on him at first.  He said he's been knocking on doors for 3 days and hasn't found one person who said they're backing him and would donate.  He works on a comission so he's been working hard for nothing - he said he could have gotten a job at wal mart that paid way better.

She gave the kid a ride back to his car - he said he'd had enough and was heading up to wal mart to look into that job asap.

The party knows they've got a problem - a huge problem and they're clueless as to how to fix what they've broken by stealing this nomination for their guy.  They're losing support and now, they're losing control of our delegates.

Poor kid. (0.00 / 0)
We have canvassers here in WI, too, and very few of 'em are getting any sense that anyone will vote for BHO.  (My Mom told one very politely that Obama will never get her vote, nor mine -- she just said, "Not Obama" when asked who she's voting for.  She said, "Put Hillary Clinton back in there and I will vote for her, as will my daughter and all the rest of my family.")

We are lifelong Dems.  We are sick of being ignored and abandoned by our own party.

If the Democrats are smart, they will cease these strongarm tactics.

PUMA!

Stop the drama, DUMP OBAMA!!!

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

I really don't get how this can even be open for negotiation.  She got more primary votes than he did.  She kicked his butt in WV, KY, FL and a lot of other key states.  And if it hadn't been for the caucus fraud and the out and out THEFT of those 59 delegates in MI (four of whick were HILLARY'S!), he never would have crossed the threshold into being our presumptuous nominee.

Even after all that they STILL can't close the deal and now it looks like they're going to start losing support among the delegates.

And she won at least two states without any support from anyone within that state -- South Dakota and Massachussetts. (0.00 / 0)
That has to count for something.

In addition, there's a war going on between the Republic of Georgia and Russia -- Georgia wants a cease-fire, Russia won't stop invading.  (It's over the border town of Ossetia.)  Does anyone really think BHO has a clue what to do about things like this?  And does anyone really doubt what Hillary Clinton would do, and that she'd handle things like this competently and well?

Superdelegates, wake up!

And listen to me and listen good --

Stop the drama, DUMP OBAMA!!!

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

How does Obamanation plan to get McCain kicked off the Nov. ballot? (0.00 / 0)
You know they're trying to think of something.

There's a growing narrative that obama is in trouble (0.00 / 0)
Here's Andrew Sullivan (Times On Line)

And Michael Tomasky (Washington Post)

And Thomas Schaller (Salon)

The problem for Obama is that the more he tries to shut down any opposition, the weaker he looks.

The Salon article is interesting. (0.00 / 0)
Page 2: (emphasis mine)

Ginsberg: Yeah, if that's your definition, Edsall, you need a wider focus. The truth is the ad he has out today [Aug. 6] would not be defined as high-road politics, especially not with imposing a heartbeat in the middle of it, one of the greatest subliminal effects in an ad since the "Rats" ad in 2000 that the New York Times made such a big deal about, and I bet there won't be quite such a big deal about this heart ad. But nonetheless, Obama has shown that he's not particularly on the high road. I think that was true in the primaries in the way that he mixed it up and also basically the way he has conducted -- I think, in a sense, he's damaged his own brand and position by the way he and his surrogates have conducted the campaign.

Page 4: (emphasis mine)

Ginsberg: I kind of have a different perspective on this. First of all, I do think that much of the Obama campaign has been a cult-of-personality campaign. If you can come up with your own presidential-like seal, then that is the definition of a cult-of-personality campaign. ...

Let me also say that what the Obama campaign has been doing is pretty personal also. The notion of trying to say that McCain is like George Bush, which has been a consistent theme in the Obama campaign, is pretty personal about McCain, especially given the dynamics of the McCain-Bush operation. And again the ad that's out today that includes the heartbeat sound in the middle, which I suspect is intended to draw negative inferences about McCain's age, strikes me as pretty personal. I really reject the notion that this is a one-way personal-ad campaign. I think it is, as Tom pointed out, not terribly different than what's happened in past years.

He is talking about this ad:

Has BHO EVER released his medical records????

We need to raise this every time he goes after Mac on age and health.  BHO may look young and healthy but then so did JFK - and we all know how sick he was.

Do the republicans have a roll call, or are they different. (0.00 / 0)
I don't know because I have never been able to stomach watching a republican convention, other than the debacle in 1992.  But I don't hear anything about the candidates other than McCain being kicked off their roll call list.

Maybe we can have a worse and more scripted convention than the republicans this year.  That would be embarrassing.

We keep trying to figure out why Hillary is being challanged this year, but it is an exercise in futility to keep wondering about it.  There is no legitimate reason, except that Dean, Obama, and the rest have hijacked the party for themselves and Obama is an irrational narcassist, who wants it all for himself.

When they try to claim that we are all irrelevant, then it is hard for them to explain their absolute military hold on what happens in the convention, as though it is a matter of Obama's political life or death.  That isn't a sign we are irrelevant it's a sign that we hold a lot of power in the party, even though we are irrelevant.

Is there even one Democratic leader with a spine? (0.00 / 0)
I expect punky kids to be thug like or a bully but all these thug adults is very troubling to me. When did this change? Can't be all because they're propping up a loser, something else has happened. Can't be all just because the last 8 horrible years of Bush either. Ever since the Dems got control in congress and so little got passed is when I noticed the dem party not acting the way I thought Us democrats were all about.

There's so much disregard for the rule of law and the constitution from both sides now. Has greed and the power of the corporations reallt taken over?  That's what it seems like to me.

Caucuses are out dated and a false representative of the voters. and have to go away and I am astounded that Democrats are now for them.

This is terrible (0.00 / 0)
I have decided that if Obama is man enough to include the first round of voting to be inclusive of Clinton that I could bring myself to vote for him........but this kind of stuff, My God!  As usual this voting season I won't know what is needed of me until the moment arrives so I suppose I should just stop trying to make predictions of where I will find myself and I need to simply stay informed and wait for the time when my actions will speak for me.

stong arm is turn off (0.00 / 0)
Where I live, I've met two door to door salesmen who wanted money for Barack and even at my little grocery store there was a woman waiting to pounce on me to 'talk about how to elect Barack in swing states' with the help of my checkbook.  It's tiresome, too long and also too soon, too many months until the election. Barack has gone on vacation, I wish they'd all take some time off.  I don't like direct sales and I don't like telling someone they can't have my money in my own neighborhood.  It's time for a softer campaign season.  I'm more interested in Russia and Georgia, but of course that's not what they're asking me about, and it's a good thing I didn't cancel my NYT subscription, maybe their stock will go up now that 'news' is rarely available.

Which is to say, that sometimes bullying works, but it's short term. Bush managed to raise the expectations of yet another weak nation and he set the stage for Russia to invade, by the oil profits that have made Putin so resilient.

Barack should be leading this drive for signatures, not obstructing it.  He's supposed to bring us together, not accentuate our differences. But, at least he's on vacation, wish he'd take his door to door salesmen with him.

intimidation (0.00 / 0)
I'm shocked at this report of lying and intimidation.  But as awful as it is, it's hardly the first report of foul play or intimidation.  During the primaries, we heard plenty, and neither campaign was blameless.

Personally, I don't hold Obama OR Hillary personally responsible for the foul play on their side.  And I don't think it speaks to how they'd run the country.  I think it represents a few bad apples... and damned if I'm gonna let a few bad apples spoil the entire Democratic bunch.
