ACTION: Dammit! They've Gone Too Far This Time! (Updated)

by: Alegre

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 14:58:27 PM EDT

Ok guys - this is the kind of thuggish and anti-Democratic behavior we're up against.  THIS is the kind of shite Hillary's delegates and supporters have had to put up with for months now.

First they primary John Lewis for his re-election bid in GA for not getting on board the BHO train soon enough.  Then they strip that delegate in Wisconsin of her credentials.  And now they're trying to control what people say about The One.

What's next? Thought control?

This!  This coming from DEMOCRATS?!!!!  Seriously - what has Howard Dean done to our beloved party????

From the Denver Post...

Sacha Millstone of Boulder has hired a lawyer after a Democratic Party e-mail ordered her to come to headquarters and explain disparaging remarks she made about Barack Obama. A Clinton supporter, she hired an attorney who wrote the party asking for the rules that allow the party to threaten a person's removal from the state delegation. Party officials say the issue has been dropped.
...

"You are hereby directed to come in to the party Headquarters and explain your comments and why you should remain a national delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in light of these comments," the letter said.

Millstone, who has hired a lawyer, was infuriated.

"Isn't there a right to free speech? Isn't this right in line with our time-honored tradition with the Dems?" she said. "These intimidation tactics have a chilling effect on people feeling comfortable speaking up."

Make the jump - I'm not done ranting!

Alegre :: ACTION: Dammit! They've Gone Too Far This Time! (Updated)
"We wanted to explore with Ms. Millstone the possibility of her voluntarily resigning her position," Compton said. "I simply wanted to discuss the matter with her."
...

"It's inevitable within a party of this size that there will be different views about the merits of the candidates that the parties put forward," said Daniel Kagan, a delegate representing Denver.

Kagan, who is circulating a petition among delegates nationally to get Clinton's name on the convention ballot, said it's "autocratic" of the party to force support of one candidate.

"It's ludicrously overambitious and an unattractive goal," he said.
...

Any effort to intimidate Clinton supporters won't work, at least not on at-large Clinton delegate Sonya Jaquez Lewis, who lives in unincorporated Boulder County.

"It makes me angry," Jaquez Lewis said. "It makes me want to now really be even louder about issues and concerns that before I was willing to look the other way."

I'm am beyond furious and disgusted over this latest attempt at intimidation and control.  Millstone was one of the first delegates to start organizing other Hillary delegates for Denver and was on the ground floor of the efforts to pull together that nominating petition.  The fact that they went after Sacha is no coincidence you guys - they want her out of the way.  They want to keep her off the convention floor in Denver because they're AFRAID of Hillary's delegates and the possibility that they might influence other delegates once push comes to shove and it's time to vote.

This has nothing to do with whatever Sacha said but even still... what could Millstone POSSIBLY have said to have incurred the wrath of her state party?

And please - voluntarily give up her credentials as a delegate?  Who the feck do they think they're kidding?

What a joke.

This is getting out of hand you guys.  Just what kind of a message is Dean sending out to state party chairs anyway?

That all dissent must be crushed?

That there is no longer any room in our party for diverse views and opinions?

That anyone still supporting Hillary MUST be driven out?

I mean seriously... what is Dean so AFRAID OF?

The fact that they're pulling this kind of garbage tells me one thing - they're getting rattled at the loss of support, BHO's plummeting numbers in the polls, and the fact that millions of us are refusing to get on board after the outright THEFT of our party's nomination.

This is just more proof that we're getting to them.  They are so determined to crush any and all attempts to have more than one name on the ballot in Denver.  This isn't a nominating convention - it's a fracking coronation and whoever gets in their way will be silenced!

Well let's let Howie and the rest of those thugs in Chicago know what we think of them.  Start making calls to your delegates.  Ask them to sign the petition and then go to Denver and vote for Hillary on that first ballot.

Ask them to send an email to the other delegates organizing this nominating petition and sign on:

hrc300delegates@yahoo.com

Let's let Howie know what a firestorm his thuggish tactics have just unleashed you guys!

Update from Denver news...

Colorado Democrats Threaten Clinton Delegate's Status

Sacha Millstone of Boulder said that her comments were critical, but they were not public.

Millstone acknowledged she was frustrated over how the Obama campaign was treating delegates who supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and told a fellow delegate, in what she believed was a private e-mail exchange, that she was not sure she could vote for Obama at the Democratic National Convention later this month.

The other delegate apparently filed a complaint with the state Democratic Party suggesting Millstone lose her status as a delegate.
...

"I think that one of the reasons I got this letter was to intimidate me," said Millstone. "It sounded very totalitarian. I thought it sounded undemocratic and I was completely shocked."

Millstone continued, "Having conversations on the pros and cons of those candidates, I don't think this is an unusual thing at all in the Democratic Party."
...

Waak said the investigation and e-mail from Compton was not made public by the Colorado Democratic Party and regrets that it is in the public domain.
...

Millstone firmly believed the e-mail from Compton was a clear message to Clinton delegates nationwide to refrain from critical comments of Obama if they wish to attend the convention.

"I think that it was calculated to have an impact on other delegates and I think this kind of communication does have a very chilling impact on other delegates because people become afraid to speak up. They become afraid to say what they think."

Millstone added, "You can't get unity by telling people to shut up."

My but that last bit is the money quote folks.  Memorize it.  Repeat it in everything you write and in every conversation you have with your family and friends.  Hell put it in your signature line on the blogs you post to.

You can't get unity by telling people to shut up

Folks they've got video - an interview with Sacha Millstone - at the above link.  Check it out and then get busy writing to or calling your delegates to respectfully ask that they sign the nominating petition and go to Denver to vote for Hillary.

UPDATE 2:

This is an action item you guys.  Just got the contact info for the Dem. Party in CO.  Time to hit the phones and send emails to let them know what we think of their bully tactics and intimidation of Hillary's delegates!

I'm beyond furious.  Have you ever gotten so pissed off that you're near tears?

I've been a Democrat for over 35 years.  It ranks up there after mother and wife in terms of how I identify myself.  And Dean's hacking away at the very foundation of who I and millions of other Democrats am.

We will NOT be silenced!!!!

I've been a democrat since I was hatched (0.00 / 0)
some 58.4 years ago.

If Obama is selected in Denver as the nominee I will be an independent the next day.  This is no longer my party.  It more closely resembles the rethug party of the 80's and 90's.

Thou shalt fall in line or else.  I accept or else as my fate.

don't have your own opinion. Don't be ambitious for that is a smear. Don't compete because it will tear apart our "unity".

"We wanted to explore with Ms. Millstone the possibility of her voluntarily resigning her position," Compton said. "I simply wanted to discuss the matter with her."

We wanted to talk her into giving up. Unity 2008!!!!

GOOD JOB! (0.00 / 0)
I was just coming by to cross post a blog entry about the exact same article. Sasha Millstone is a true Heroine!
There is also televison coverage out in Denver on this as well! (link in my blog- coutesy of katiebird at the Confluence)

Three! Three Colorado delegates are cited in this article! HMMMM guess the word is getting around tht the DNC is being taken over by thigs!

Wish I could steal the video form the Denver Channel but I am technically challenged. Somebody needs to go get it though- the audio portion I heard was phenomenal- Millstone tells it like it is!

Gotta run to work!

Sorry but if this were a prominent male, don't you think the courtesy of an INVITATION to come in and speak would have been extended? A phone call, hey we understand you're angry let's talk this over?

I hadn't thought about that (0.00 / 0)
Are there any cases of the Party going after/revoking voting rights of male Clinton delegates?

I've Heard of 4 or 5 Women (0.00 / 0)
being threatened, but so far - no men.  Doesn't mean it hasn't happened though.

I do know that some union members who have refused to get on board have had their JOBS threatened.

This is absolutely unreal - it breaks my heart to think of what Dean has done to our party.

Why are Obama's ads now paid for _Obama for America_? (0.00 / 0)
I think that's the real answer -- Dean for America became Democracy for America became Obama for America.

Where are the damned lawsuits?!?

I do not approve of this whatsoever, Alegre, and I will continue to raise Hell about it.  I was not able to get through today in PA with the Rendell situation (though I think he's being Machiavellian, myself; he expects us to raise Hell and wants it in his head, I think; he knows Obama will lose), and I don't know if I'll be able to do anything tomorrow with calling CO.  But I will tell my friend from CO about this -- he lives there and he'll be livid.  Him being a Colorado Hillary Clinton voter will matter a lot more than me being a former CO resident who's also a Hillary Clinton voter.

As always . . . Stop the drama, DUMP OBAMA!!!

Hillary Clinton for President -- NOW!!!

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

I wanted to send an question to CHANNEL 7 in denver: regarding Delegates who SPEAK disparagingly ABOUT CLINTON,(in PUBLICE or PRIVEATE)----- have they been called out on the CARPET and asked to EXPLAIN THEMSELVES< ?????????

It would be interesting to let her EAT HER WORDS< God they are brutal.

She was one of the SD's, who called me a LIAR and not to E-mail her any more letters, in support of Senator CLINTON

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Comment on Denver Post is interesting (0.00 / 0)
If it's in writing, wouldn't you request "please come in and see us":
If he only wanted to discuss the possibility of her resigning her position, why wouldn't he have called her and asked her to please come and see him. If he was compelled to put his request in writing, why not write "please come down as soon as convenient, we'd like to discuss your support of Senators Clinton and Obama"?

Compton actually says this bald-face lie and expects us to believe him. It's as if the truth simply no longer matters. It has been replaced by the plausibility of the lie and the degrees of spin.

What's the matter? (0.00 / 0)

All snarking aside, this is a truly disgusting example of Oba-moi's thuggery. He's been doing this type of thing for a long time and so far, he's gotten away with it.

Not this time.

which party are we talking about here? (0.00 / 0)
i really don't recognize my party anymore. it wasn't but a few months ago that we stood for democracy, inclusiveness, and equal representation.

of course, we also used to stand for separation of church and state, the fourth amendment, women's access to reproductive health services, and a lot of other old-fashioned ideas. and those are all gone now.

this REALLY reminds me of 1968. i guess i've lived too long, to see these things come around again.

Isn't she SUPPOSED to vote for Clinton?

Oh, have I mentioned I can't stand Obama?

oh, that's just to represent the Democrats who elected her. (0.00 / 0)
she's supposed to vote for Obama because we ALL know that all former hillary supporters are now supporting obama, right? ;-)

the obama technique is to be able to read the minds of the voters WHO ACTUALLY CAST VOTES, and discern that they all REALLY meant to support obama.

just look at michigan. all the people who voted "uncommitted" - and tens of thousands who voted for hillary - had their delegates given to obama by the RBC on May 31. see how easy it is???

THey preumed to know what was in the hearts of all those Michigan voters who didn't even botther to vote, and divied up the delegates.  That's why they stole 4 from Hillary and gave them to that coward (yeeees COWARD (hi Cheetoes!)) who hid from the voters not just once, but twice.

The DNC has lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned and I don't care who reports me to the party bosses.  I'm not a delegate because we don't have the money for a trip to Denver, so that futher-mucker can't touch me.

These delegates needs PUMA protection.   They will only dare to speak up and report these kinds of incident if the public rally to support them.

If nobody cares for them, they will no longer speak up.  PUMAs must be vocal and making noise against these strong arm tactics against HRC delegates.

and if the proverbial shoe were on the other foot: (0.00 / 0)

If HRC were the presumed nominee, and the Dem Party was harassing some of Obama's delegates; just imagine the cries of racism!!

I've been this angry for months- Dean has to be (0.00 / 0)
a republican- it's the only thing that makes sense, but of course he's not which makes it worse.

Back in 2004 Dean, Obama and those two young dudes who own that billion dollars corp Google all joined cahoots. Perhaps why Obama voted for Fisa. One can only imagine the havoc they have played already...like shutting down many anti-Obama and Pro- Hillary blogs, for one. We are definitely looking at totalitariaism-

Remember how the now biggest hypocritites at dkos and Dems in congress would scream about losing free speech, not following the rules of law, breaking rules in the constitution...etc.? Voter fraud, count every vote ...such fucking hypocrits. And this- trust me- is the tip of the iceberg if Obama wins.

Remember how President Bush's administration was criticized for making appointments to the Justice Department recently based strictly on loyalty to him?

I'm guessing that's another one of those bi-partisan initiatives that Senator Obama likes.

When do the loyalty oaths begin?
