Behold His Mighty Hand: Obama Stops War That McCain Started

by: campskunk

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 12:07:33 PM EDT

According to Obama adviser Susan Rice, McCain practically started the current hostilities in Georgia singlehandedly:

On Hardball last night, Obama advisor Susan Rice voiced the strongest version I've heard of the criticism of McCain's rapid condemnation of Russia Thursday.

"John McCain shot from the hip, [with a] very aggressive, very belligerent statement," she said. "He may or may not have complicated the situation."

...and, according to Olympic class kissass (and, coincidentally, VP aspirant) Tim Kaine, Obama  stopped the conflict and restored peace to the world by doing what he does best... talking..

It required tough words, but also a smart approach to call for the international community to step in, and I'm very very happy that the Senator's request for a ceasefire has been complied with by (the Russian) President...

Wow! If Obama could really stop international conflicts with words, we're in for a millenium of peace, minimum ;-)

Oh, good lord. (0.00 / 0)
By the time the convention opens I expect him to be wearing a well tailored robe and Gucci sandles.  Is it true that the second night of the convention is for the laying on of hands or will that spectacle be saved for the multitudes in the stadium?

he's special ;-) (0.00 / 0)
i predict loaves and fishes in Ivesco Field.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

But before we get to the loaves and fishes (0.00 / 0)
and the spectacle of "I can see!, I can walk!" screams from those touched by his healing hands, rumor has it his entrance has been designed to offer proof (did anyone doubt) that HE'S THE ONE.  Seems he will mount the stage after walking across the water of a man made lake in the center of the field.  Some say that's baloney because everyone knows he will magically descend from the heavens as an angel choir sings.  Take that China!

Are you serious? (0.00 / 0)
Are they really going to have him enter on a walkway over water?

If you are jesting, you'll have to excuse me. I've been gullible for the past few days. I don't know what is wrong with me. All the sensationalism and gimmicks are making me dizzy.

WTF? (0.00 / 0)
I haven't watched the video, nor have I been keeping up with McCain's words on the issue, but "the Senator's request for a ceasefire has been complied with by (the Russian) President..."

WTF?

Russia pulled together a UN Security Council meeting right at the getgo, within hours of George Soros' installed Georgian President initiating the attack on (mostly) Russian citizens, which Russia is bound by its Constitution to protect. They wanted a cease-fire.

I am so SICK of this Russia-blasting constant-spin drive toward WWIII!

Hmmmm. (0.00 / 0)
You know when this started, I really didn't understand why there was all the anti-Russian posts/comments since Georgia did start it.  BUT... they went way the fuck over the line the minute their operations went after civilians on the other side of the country.

I've heard horror stories about both sets of troops (none confirmed).  The Georgian President truly screwed the pooch on this one BUT Medvedev/Putin went way, way, way too far and need to be stopped.  He is definitely showing some KGB (McCain was right on that one).

I think some U.S. troops in  Georgia for humanitarian aid might stop it on both sides.  Ossetia (and the other region trying to break off) CLEARLY needs to be resolved and once it is, Georgia needs to be allowed into NATO.

Oh, have I mentioned I can't stand Obama?

Georgia and Russia have been edgy for centuries, (0.00 / 0)
it's not just this incident. Georgia is one of the most important buffer states that Russia has, independent or not, and Russia is going to do what she has to to make sure it is a stable area, even if she has to annex it again. What you call over-reacting is simply the Russians making that point clearly to the Georgians. It's not a KGB reaction, it's a Russian one.

Obama's Power at work- see below TOO FUNNY! (0.00 / 0)

No Drama.

As you have probably heard by now numerous times, the "no drama" edict is the one handed down from the top of the Obama campaign that permeates every facet of that organization.  Every person hired to the Obama campaign gets the "no drama" speech when they are hired.  We don't do drama here. Sorry. Tight ship and all that.

Some snips from that diary:

Well, from what I can see, the drama doesn't help.  And I'm taking the Obama no drama pledge from here on out.

So, I'm adopting the Obama no drama policy.  We will forge ahead with a clear vision and purpose in this campaign, and turn out every vote we can.  At that point, we will win.

If we do that, the only drama we will get to enjoy is the Obama victory speech come November 4th.  And THAT drama couldn't get a better script from Hollywood.

Any doubts now about cult and koolaid????

How many days? (0.00 / 0)
How many days will it take for Obama and his surrogates to register that the Russia didn't stop the firing squad?

How many days will it take for Obama to realize that it's the right thing that Bush is sending aids to Georgia?

How many days will it take for Obama to come out with a new stand?  Or will he just repeat his old line request for a ceasefire?

Obama is so out of touch with the situation.  And his surrogates are pandering for the sake of winning the election on the expense of some real people dying in Georgia.

i'm sickened by the obama response to this situation (0.00 / 0)
McCain got it right from the start. He was just about the only person on the planet who did. London, Paris, Bush, Obama, all were speaking to a sort of moral equivalency that gave Russia cover in those pivotal early hours. Sure Georgia screwed up. But that was just the pretext Putin happened to use. If not this, it would have been something else. Note that the cyberattacks began July 20 -- weeks before the Georgian "provocation."

So what is the Obama camp response? "McCain can't pronounce Sakashvili." "McCain plagiarized from Wiki." "McCain's advisor is a lobbyist." Now they're making fun of "we are all Georgians." Do they not see the bombing victims weeping at hearing that? It's a false hope but it's all they've got. And Obamans are making fun of it. Just, f*ck those guys.

Meanwhile, I saw McCain on Fox yesterday, the host was all but begging him to take a shot at Obama for blowing the first call. McCain refused. He insisted this is not and cannot be a political matter and he and Obama and all Americans stand united on this.

Seriously, for anyone paying attention, this moment is the election. One of these guys is presidential, the other simply isn't.

One of those guys knows the ins and outs of (0.00 / 0)
foreign policy and the other one doesn't. Guess which is which? Not The One who didn't bother to have a meeting of his committee overseeing NATO and the Afghanistan conflict. Not The One who doesn't know the capitol of Israel..nooooooo..not that One. McCain is right, it is NOT a political matter, and neither candidate has any business inserting themselves into the situation unless they have official standing to do so. McCain has been around Washington long enough to know when to keep his mouth shut about foreign policy, Obama hasn't.

I wonder how many of the Obamabots actually think that there was a ceasefire because Obama said it would be a good idea.
You know, if the Obama campaign keeps this up, my eyes are going to be permanently rolling. This makes it hard to drive..sigh.

Actually Hillary (0.00 / 0)
was ahead of the curve on this (as always). Take a look at Catfish's diary, Hillary Clinton's April 2008 Statement on Russia's Actions Toward Georgia. I still agree with what you say here.

Alice left me in Wonderland.

Hillary Clinton is who we need; her response was right on target. Obama's -- not so much. (0.00 / 0)
All I can say other than that is, despite what Roseeriter said above about how the Obama team abhors "drama," it seems to me we have way too much "drama" as it is with Obama.

So . . .

Stop the drama, DUMP OBAMA!!! (And even his campaign staff should see it by now.  They abhor drama, right?)

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

[ Parent ]
i read that statement, and yeah i think you're right (0.00 / 0)
If she were nom, we would not be seeing "McCain was prescient" headlines because her statement was more recent and more to the point. McCain's statements comes from like 1999.

And oh how I would love to see Wes Clark on tv on this issue. Instead I keep seeing Susan Power saying the dumbest things imaginable. She all but said, "McCain's position is the correct one, but it wasn't correct until Obama adopted it." And watching Holbrooke splutter that Obama was on a plane headed to vacation when this happened, and therefore his first statement can't be held against him, jesus christ, excuse my french.

No we probably would not have seen that sort of nonsense with HRC taking lead on this for the Dems.

Oh and did you guys see Saakashvili on CNN today, all but fellating McCain? Might have happened anyway but Obama's three statements in 24 hours, which still don't make sense, and which some of his surrogates are still contradicting, didn't help.

Stop the drama, DUMP OBAMA!!!

Hillary Clinton -- NOW!!!

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.
