They're Closer Than You Think

by: Alegre

Campskunk pointed out a recent post by River Daughter and I think it rates a link and discussion here.  This race is a lot closer than people realize you guys, and with less than 100 pledged delegates separating Hillary from BHO, the idea that she could pull off a miracle upset / hail Mary pass is within the realm of possibility.  Don't get me wrong - I know it's still a longshot but if we don't shoot for the stars we'll never achieve great things.

She starts out by reminding us that Michigan and Florida could change the delegate count dramatically and wonders what the actual count is if we take that into consideration.  Check it out...

How Many Delegates?!?!?

A couple of months ago, I speculated it was less than 100. Diane says Heidi Li Feldman thinks it is more like 59. If that is correct, it goes a long way towards explaining the actions of the RBC members and why the DNC is so desperate to keep her off the nominating ballot today. 59 delegates.

It might even be less than that if the Texas caucus delegates were challenged. Or how about those Nevada caucus delegates of Hillary's that were poached by Obama? We know that all across the country, Obama picked up delegates through less than transparent and underhanded means. Some of them were Hillary's pledged delegates.

But what's even more interesting is that in spite of the fact that Obama sent the letter to the Credentials Committee asking that Florida and Michigan be restored to full voting strength, and the media slavishly reported that letter, the Committee has yet to act on the letter's request because at their July 21 meeting because they were unable to fill a quorum. (or so we've heard from 2 unconfirmed sources) In a year when the nomination hinges on the restoration of Florida and Michigan, what POSSIBLE reason could there be for not getting it done toot sweet as soon as the letter was received? Hmmm, think, think, think.

I've heard that they couldn't get a quorum for that credentials meeting as well.  Now it looks like they won't try again until the day before the convention's set to get under way (Aug. 24th).  So BHO could keep pretending to be the presumptuous nominee right up until the delegates get to town.

The thing is... he might have overplayed his hand a bit.  Some of his own delegates are so convinced he has this in the bag, that they aren't even making plans to go to the convention to vote for him.

I just received this from Michele Thomas...

This is the second time I've heard this. Obama is afraid of a roll call because a lot of his delegates will not show up. Read below. Keep pushing for the vote.

Michele

I was on a conf. call last night, but it was just silly. The Obama guy directing it was saying, "Make sure you have your hotel and transportation." Really??? Two weeks to the convention...if you don't have it by now, frankly...

It was largely pointless. But one interesting thing that has been mentioned before...it's been submitted that a reason some are not willing to allow HRC's name to be placed in nomination is that not all delegates (Obama) will show up, so therefore, since it's so close...

Well, one delegate on the conf. call (I'm sure I was the only HRC delegate on) didn't have a clue what was going on and said she hadn't received anything (which I find hard to believe). So who knows if she'll make it to Denver at this point?

I almost feel like we need to do a headcount or something...

This explains why they're putting so much pressure on state party chairs to depress participation in that nominating petition you guys.  They know the numbers are closer than ever and who knows what might happen at the credentials committee meeting later this month?  If they do the right thing - give full voting rights to MI and FL's delegates AND make BHO give back those 50 delegates they helped him steal, then we've got a whole new ballgame.

Add to that their fear that their Mission Accomplished meme has worked better than they ever could have dreamed, to the point that their own delegates are feeling like it's a done deal so why bother going to Denver?

Guys we have sooooo got a shot at this.  Now is the time to hit the phones and send out emails to the delegates and superdelegates in our state.  Nationally even.  We have got to convince them that Hillary's the only Democrat who will beat McCain in November and - just as importantly - will go to the White House determined to make a real difference in the lives of the 300 million Americans in this great land.

First assignment... call the state party chairs and (respectfully) ask them to stand down in their efforts to bully and control their state delegates.  Ask them to allow Hillary's delegates the honor of signing that nominating petition, and then go to Denver to vote for her.  I'll be posting a list of phone numbers and names of these party chairs so stay tuned ok?

i just dont buy this (0.00 / 0)
here is why i dont think hillary can be the nom. she is voting for bo at the conv. she will ask her delegates to vote for him. she is releasing her delegates for the vote. many of her delegates will vote obama as she is voting for obama. we were never allowed to have the fight entitles to an toher nominee in such a close contest. this is no coordinated floor fight etc.. at first it sounded exciting but now i see hat is-a sham. someone correct me if im completely wrong.

you're listening to obamazoid propaganda. (0.00 / 0)
they're busy registering new names to post here and elsewhere in pumaland - always the same story. no source, much less a statement from hillary to that effect. don't fall for it.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

she could win it (0.00 / 0)
she probably won't let that happen, because she does not want to win the skirmish but lose the war.  If that happened at this point the people would be wondering, what is wrong with him, what kind of power person is she, the news would be all over it, she'd be smeared, he'd be tarnished, it would be played as a scandal.

But the vote will be fair and there will be a real chance that she could win.  Slim but real.

Anna, I'm sorry. You keep saying this but it (0.00 / 0)
makes utterly no sense.  If there is a fair vote, she has a shot of winning by virtue of the closeness of the delegate count.  If she has deduced that the supers are intent on supporting Obama, then she will release her delegates for a choreographed delegate vote, and she will cast her vote for Obama.  It's either/or.  If it's already been decided then there is not be a "fair" vote, which is fine, but no reason to put lipstick on a pig.  She deduces the SDs will support BO, and therefore does as follows above.  If she thinks she would have a chance on a second ballot, then we will see sausage being made.  A fair process without predetermined results, like an election.

Hillary isn't a quitter and until and unless she deduces that there will not be an open vote, she will condone sausage being made.  I tend to believe Hillary thinks she is the best person to lead this country and has the best chance of defeating McCain.  I don't think that was just campaign talk.  Therefore, I can not fathom that she would not allow herself to be nominated by the Democrats.

i don't know either (0.00 / 0)
But she's said 'it won't happen,' and she doesn't mislead.  She is the best to lead the country, here's what it is, I trust her.  She'll do her best for the country. Whatever that is, it's what she'll do. She is absolutely right that a vote was necessary, that the DNC respecting her voters is clearly very necessary for Barack to win, and that it must be a real vote with a real chance, however slim, that she would win. I'm sorry I posted the above, because she's the only politician I do trust.  I know with her it isn't her personal ambition, I know she's much bigger than any candidate in my lifetime.  I know she's the Soloman's 'real mother' and that's who she is. If it's best for me, that's what she'll do.  I'm wrong to call it one way or the other, I'm not privy to what she knows.

I think she was saying, look, the supers are with Obama. (0.00 / 0)
The choice has been made, and by the way, it's their choice.  It complies with the rules.  They are free to make their choice, and I, Hillary, expect that they will stick with it.  See, I think she's saying that's fair because they have a vote to cast and they can vote however they want.  What I don't think is that Hillary feels any different than she did a few months ago, ie I think she rightly feels of the three candidates, her, Obama and McCain, she's the best candidate for President and she would win.  But if the supers said, look, we've thought about this and rather than going in knowing the outcome, we'd like you two to present your best cases and then we will vote, I think she would agree to that and she'd make her best argument, though clearly I don't see that happening and I don't think Hillary does.

good point (0.00 / 0)
that's the soft fix, it there is no argument there is no rationale to vote for the one who can best beat McCain and it's best prepared to lead.  It's depressing, but what will be most depressing is if he doesn't pick her at VP and he loses.  If he picks her as VP and loses, he'll have given it his best shot, but if he's too proud to do that, if he insists that it's his win and he's in charge, I will wash my hands of him, he'll be on his own as far as I'm concerned. I am sick of our party giving us candidates who don't care enough about winning the GE.  He sure cared enough about the primary.

re. Mission Accomplished (0.00 / 0)

I just got an email from Donna Brazile (why does she even bother?!) saying:

Start your Obama party now.

Her version of Mission Accomplished, I guess.  (Maybe she's getting a little nervous.)

did she say (0.00 / 0)
Hillary will be the VP nom?  Tell her we're still waiting?

It almost sounds like Dumbo Brazile... (0.00 / 0)
is taking credit for getting HRC into nomination.

What an absolute jackass that women is.  I'm ashamed to think that she "represents" any part of the Democratic party...but then, I'm now a PROUD PUMA and will never go back to my rapist again.

well, I'm sure there's been a lot of calls (0.00 / 0)
for her resignation.

What's it going to take to get through to the DNC Brazile and Dean have to go?

Did Barry replace a lot of HRC delegates... (0.00 / 0)
with is own since June?

Do we know what count she will have right out of the chute?

i think that's a fair delegate count (0.00 / 0)
and shows they are really tied.

Barack made some moves that helped him, he got caucus delegates by figuring out the way to get them, and he lost delegates by pulling out of Michigan.  She made up for some of his caucus votes by running in Michigan.  He got the rest by way of how delegates are distributed. She won the popular vote but he was close. He won the delegate vote but she was close.

The DNC stepped in to shut it down and give it to Barack and while that was clearly a move to stop Hillary, it was made by the power brokers, not by the people. Since she had the momentum and the polls it ought to have been decided in her favor.

This shows what a truly lofty person Hillary is, she always said her main focus was a democrat in the white house, not necessarily her, and she meant it. She's now the main voice for unity and she's come out of this showing her excellence and abilities in a brilliant way.

We are so fortunate to have one politician as smart and nice and practical as Hillary.  Wish I were going to Denver.
