ACTION: Call David Paterson!

by: Alegre

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 21:46:05 PM EDT

Hat-tip to CatFish for bringing this article to my attention

Seems the good Governor New York hasnt gotten the latest memo.  Hillarys going to be on that roll call ballot and he needs to get the states delegation lined up behind their Senator.  He needs a talking-to! He needs to follow the lead of Ed Rendell.

New York governor says:

New York's delegation to the Democratic National Convention will vote to nominate Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for president, not Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, Gov. David Paterson said Monday.

"Believe me, the New York delegation will be all casting our ballots, as far as I know, on the roll call for Senator Barack Obama," Paterson said during an interview on WNYC radio. "I don't believe Senator Hillary Clinton is asking anyone to vote for her."

I dont believe OMG is this man really that dense?  Does he need this sort of stuff spoon-fed to him?  Hillarys going to be on that ballot for a reason.  To give her delegates the chance to cast their vote for her.  Especially, you know... her PLEDGED DELEGATES.  How can he try to take that away from her supporters and deny Hillarys 18 million voters a voice?

So lets contact the good Governor and ask him (respectfully) to back his states Senator and our one shot at beating the republicans and re-taking the White House  Hillary Clinton.

patterson knows better - he's just spreading the propaganda. (4.00 / 4)
this is part of the obama haka - hillary will release her delegates, hillary will vote for obama, it's a symbolic vote, blah blah blah. all the obama people have been pumping this stuff out from the moment the announcement the roll call vote was going to happen was issued.

no named person has ever said any of this stuff for attribution, but everybody shilling for obama has "heard" it, or, in the case of patterson, it's his "understanding". in other words, it's all smoke and mirrors.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

Yeah Well I Hear Things Too (4.00 / 4)
Like that BHO has done his level best to steal this nomination.  He's had a lot of help too from the toxic trio (Dean, Pelosi and Brazile).

Seriously you guys - we have GOT to get on Patterson's case about this shit.  He's the governor of he state Hillary represents in the Senate and she won re-election with 67% of the freakin' vote less than 2 years ago!

I'm sure if I dug up the numbers I'd find that she also won the NY primary by a HUGE (H U G E !!!!) margin.  He's a super delegate and the gov. of her state - and he's telling people to OPPOSE her in that roll call vote?

Anyone else see a problem here?

no, i agree with you. he needs to hear from people on this. (4.00 / 2)
but don't think he's doing this out of ignorance. he knows exactly what he's doing.

contacting works (4.00 / 4)

Here's a note I just got from a NH SD (former Party Chair):

Thanks for the e mail!  The fact she finished first here does mean a lot, but I also hear that she may ask her delegates to vote for Senator Obama on the first ballot. Whatever I do, it will be based on what I think is in the best interest of winning the White House, however.
.....

Sounds like she liked being told to vote for Hillary!  It probably gives her more support for what she wants to do anyway.  I like it that she will vote based on the best interest of winning the election.  That, of course, would be Hillary!  (I hope Hill doesn't tell her delegates to vote for BO.)

She Won't (4.00 / 5)
As Camp pointed out, there are a lot of BS rumors being pumped out on the net by BHO and the DNC.

Until I hear her say the words, I'll work my ass off to help put her up and over the top in that vote.

I've been telling delegates (4.00 / 4)

that if Hillary does release them, I hope they'll do the right thing and still vote for her.

What Would Be The Point of Signing the Nominating Petition If (4.00 / 4)
she were going to turn around and tell people to vote for BHO?  That makes no sense what-so-ever you guys.

Don't believe the rumors and keep working - 24/7 if possible - between now and that vote!

Thanks! Good point! (4.00 / 2)

sounds like a "don't beat me up" reply ;-) (4.00 / 1)
the "but i also hear" part is the clue that this is bullshit.

i hear that medications are available to turn me into a sexual dynamo, but i don't necessarily believe that.

i mean, more of a sexual dynamo than i already am, of course ;-)

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

trying to have it both ways (4.00 / 2)
  and covering all bases?

[ Parent ]
yeah, but the reply isn't important. (4.00 / 2)
what's important is that as many people as possible (like you, for example) keep reminding these people that if they're going to claim they're representing the will of the voters, THE VOTERS VOTED FOR HILLARY. period. that's a pretty strong clue as to what the will of the voters is.

Patterson is alright but this isn't surprising (0.00 / 0)
I realize that it will be difficult for ANY African-American superdelegate to vote for Hillary now without the fear that they will be labeled as an Uncle Tom and have African-Americans vote against them in the next election. Patterson is doing what he believes is the best and safest move for him at the moment. I wouldn't count on Patterson to vote for Clinton at the convention.

Race Race Race (4.00 / 2)
This election is all about race.  Obama comes this far because of his race.  These AA voted for him because of the race factor.  Patterson already had misgiving about his support for Hillary already since NH.  I read that he said to his assistant that a brother had a good shot at wining the White House but he was not there.

He also got a lot of peer pressure from his friends.  His friends teased him that if he was supporting Clinton because he wanted the governor job he should just give it up.  Clinton won't win, and she would remain the senator and Spitzer would remain the governor.  And Patterson would remain where he was.

Losing Spitzer was a major blow for Clinton.  He would be more forceful to hold NY delegates for Clinton.  Patterson succumbs easily to the need to conform with his AA peers.

Not in New York! Charlie Rangel was dissed (4.00 / 1)
Violet and Sugar are doing NoQuarter radio tonight and they're going to talk about the difficulties that African Americans have endured supporting Hillary.

But here's the good news, they are rumbling and starting to become a lot more vocal. About five AA women in a row called into DCMediaGirl's show the other week to say they were for Hillary and they had been called racist over the Internet or even by their own family members.

[ Parent ]
His Vote is His Call BUT (4.00 / 2)
telling the press that the ENTIRE NEW YORK DELEGATION would be voting against their own Senator is bullshit.

At the very least, he need to cut the crap and stop talking this up.  Do what he needs to sure but leave the delegation to do what THEY think is best for the party in Nov., and for the nation in the next 4 years.

It's not just Paterson! (4.00 / 2)
Write to anyone in the NY delegation! I will be writing my reps and backing up favorable responses with donations. Hillary won re-election in NY with 67% of the vote. She also won the primary. This needs to be represented at the convention!

Another contact would be our under-the-bus-friend Charlie Rangel ;) Also, any delegate that got a primary threat for supporting Hillary. Let's let them know we have their backs also. I also suggest writing Schumer.

Anyone know what the situation in CA is? I moving there, so flexing my choice there also  ;)

I wrote to Patterson (4.00 / 2)
Thanks for the link.  Anthony Weiner also said he will vote for Obama now.  He is rumored to be planning a run for Mayor, so he just lost my vote and I let him know it in an email.
