Hillary NOT Releasing Delegates (Updated!)

by: Alegre

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 08:35:11 AM EDT

I just got a note from a friend who was on a conference call with Hillary yesterday.

I want to get two things out here for you guys to ponder before I head out to work...

1)  Harold Ickes said the new magic number is 2111 2211.

2)  Hillary said a few words about unity and winning in Nov. but she said NOTHING about releasing her delegates.

Not a word.

So let's keep our head down - contact as many delegates as we can in the coming days - and stay strong.

And send up some good thoughts / a prayer or two for Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones if you can.

It's become (0.00 / 0)
beyond obvious that Obama can't win in Nov. Maybe the party doesn't care or maybe they do. Obama going into the convention behind McCain and having poll numbers declining for months now makes it obvious. All that being said, I still think they'll nominate Obama simply because these are the same clowns that bring us loser after loser candidates.

winning in November (0.00 / 0)
We all know what that means!  Maybe the delegates do now too.

reminder: (0.00 / 0)

Let's not forget that Clinton delegate Bob Remer (Illinois) will be presenting his resolution to the DNC Rules members at their meeting this coming Saturday to address the serious problems of the ant-democratic state caucuses.

I wouldn't expect this to be a big news headline, but not even a one-liner is being reported.  I just googled and there's nothing.  Zip. No AP, Reuters, NYT. Nada.  Only Seth Colter Walls has reported it on Huff Post.

Anyway, if anyone knows any DNC Rules members, contact them before Saturday and encourage them to support Remer's resolution.  If passed, it will go to the Convention Floor.

I Have Their Emails and Will Post Later (0.00 / 0)
Given the RBCs record though, I'm guessing Toxic Donna B has her wagons circled already.

This is where I hold my tongue and NOT type out the word I'm thinking re that dreadful, crooked woman! (grrrrrrrr!!!!)

I think it has a good shot at passing (0.00 / 0)
because this resolution is not demanding any direct action. (I believe the one presented to Platform Committee actually proposed a ban of caucuses.)  All this one does is form a panel to address the problems.  And that's a good, first step.

Recently Doris Haddock (Granny D) used a similar approach for campaign finance reform here in NH.  After many many years of trying to get some kind of public finance solution, earlier this year she presnted a proposal to the state legislators for them to form a commission to explore the possibilities of campaign finance reform for the state.  It easily passed and got good attention and even a lot of Republicans voted for this one.

Excellent! Could You Diary This? (0.00 / 0)
Fire up whatever info you have and I'll jump in with the emails for those RBC members.  Then you could update (hell I could add them directly as an admin if you don't mind).

Can we just update the diary Power to the People (from yesterday) with the RBC emails? and I'll add my prediction for easy passage comment.

I hope this augurs well (0.00 / 0)
May be Ickes can argue during the credentials meeting, that because of the tainted nature of the delegate selection, the convention chair should declare all delegates to be freed of their pledge, and are free to vote their conscience. If superdelegates then follow the the will of the people, and elecetd leader vote the way their districts voted, Hillary will clinch it easily.

Still Hearting Hillary, In Slo-Mo toward McCain

Did you know they're calling US the thugs now? (0.00 / 0)
Yup! asking them to vote as the votes were cast or to pick the best person for the job, the person who has an actual chance of winning is not only racist it's apparently mean and thuggish. PUKE NOW!

Here's my latest post on the matter;

Are you sure about the magic number? (0.00 / 0)
I thought the old new magic number was 2118.  If Michigan and Florida are counted as full, the number will go up to more than 2200.  I think Obama may then just have enough? (I am looking at CNN).

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20...

From wiki, which has the pledged as

HRC: 1,617½  Obama: 1,722½ JE:4.5
If FL and MI are restored as full, with the current way of apportioning delegates, they will gain:

HRC: 52.5 BO: 38.5 (FL) JE: 1.5
HRC: 34.5 BO: 29.5 (MI) JE: 0

New Total pledged:
HRC: 1704.5 BO: 1790.5 JE: 6

However, if Michigan is counted properly:

HRC: 1708.5 BO: 1731.5  Uncommitted: 55 Edwards: 6.0

total:3501  pledged delegates, 823.5 superdelegates (according to wiki), for a total of 4324.5.

magic number: 2163

Of course, a couple of numbers may have been added or subtracted.

I also seem to remember 2209 (0.00 / 0)
as the ultimate magic number, if FL and MI were counted properly.  Perhaps, Ickes meant to say 2211??
