We're not finished folks - not by a long shot!

Hillary 3% Better vs. McCain than Obama; Hillary Approval up 6%

by: campskunk

Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 15:15:18 PM EDT

(because this info really needs to get out to the Superdelegates. Hillary's the ONLY electable Democrat - wake the hell up! - promoted by Alegre)

Alegre's pestering paid off.. .Gallup's still polling both Hillary and Obama head-to-head against McCain. The results? Well... just what you'd expect. With or without the nomination, Hillary Clinton is the better candidate for the Democrats in 2008 against John McCain.

Even today, there remain concerns among Clinton backers that Obama does not give the Democratic Party the best chance of defeating McCain and the Republicans in the presidential election. A CNN/Opinion Research poll conducted Aug. 23-24 found the two running similarly in trial heats versus McCain, with Obama and McCain tied (47% to 47%) but Clinton having a slim but not statistically significant advantage over McCain (49% to 46%).

The superdelegates need to take a long hard look at this death spiral and decide whether they want to win or not.  This poll showing a 3% advantage for Hillary is one datapoint. The most recent head-to-head polling comparing Hillary to Obama vs. McCain done by Rasmussen last month showed Hillary doing five percentage points better against McCain that The Chosen Oneā„¢. That's another datapoint.

If Obama gets the nomination and loses by less than three to five percent (like Gore and Kerry), we'll know that Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi and the superdelegates would rather lose with an inferior candidate than win with Hillary.

In the same Gallup poll, after all the slings and arrows hurled by the cheetos, what's happening with Hillary's popularity? She's doing just fine, thank you. The Gallup poll released today shows her at 80% approval among Democrats, up six percent from when she suspended her campaign in June. Looks like the cheetos are all hot air... none of the real Democrats are listening to them.

And how is Obama doing against McCain? well... it ain't pretty. Say goodbye to the tenuous lead Obama had over McCain in the daily tracking poll. The combination of the Biden bounce and the start of the convention put Obama down two points to McCain for the first time since May 25th, three months ago.

The Obama campaign lost their electoral vote lead last week, and now the popular vote lead. They must be sweating bullets. I wish I felt sorry for them, but...

Why am I unsurprised, Campskunk? (0.00 / 0)
We have the wrong candidate -- plain and simple.  The DNC had best wake up.

Otherwise, call Obama the new (African-American) George McGovern now and save steps.

He might not even win his home state(s) at this rate.

Glad to see this, though.  Proves us right -- the PUMAs have been right all along, this is "faux unity" as Heidi Li put it on her blog -- and shows that the DNC couldn't shove this guy down our throats.

The convention will be a bust.  And I hope Hillary Clinton realizes that.  I know she's very smart, but you can't put lipstick on a pig, as the saying goes.

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

I had to re-read this, I can't believe how many disagree with the MSM (0.00 / 0)
and the MSM will continue to chatter away. But the public sees nothing wrong with Hillary and the way she's conducted herself since she suspended her campaign.

Go Alegre! (0.00 / 0)
Pestering Gallup paid off. Wow! She got results!

Not Only Did Pestering Gallup Pay Off, (0.00 / 0)
pestering Zogby did, too.  Their latest poll includes the question of whether Hillary should have been the VP nominee.

Sometimes I hate being on the Zogby and Polling Point lists but they give clues as to what the mood of the country really is.

Rasmussen too (0.00 / 0)
included her today.

The more people see of Obama, the less they like (0.00 / 0)

I'm gonna predict he'll finish the convention with a 4-point drop.

Maybe a bigger drop than that. (0.00 / 0)
Man, Obama's the big-L, isn't he?  (For l-o-s-e-r, something the Obamamaniacs need to learn to spell, pronto.)

There's no excuse for this, DNC.  None.

camp, Is There a Comparable Statistic (0.00 / 0)
on Obama's approval rating among Democrats?  Can we base an argument on this?

It seems to me that the more relevant number is the one citing Hillary's advantage over McCain.  That number can only increase if she is the nominee.

OTOH, if Obama is the nominee look for a steady decline between now and November.

Yes - it's roughly the same, maybe a point or two higher (0.00 / 0)
The entire poll, writeup included, is here.

So the Bottom Line Is (0.00 / 0)
that we are casting aside a nominee with the same party approval rating as The One and a better chance of winning the GE in favor of...

NOMINATE HILLARY!

Alice left me in Wonderland.

no, obama's still more popular among all americans. (0.00 / 0)
that's because people don't know a lot about him yet. the republicans will fix that little problem between now and november, i'm sure.

Barack Obama's election proves that any male can grow up to be president, provided he's willing to use misogyny as a campaign strategy.

[ Parent ]
oh, among democrats? he has 86% right now. (0.00 / 0)
unfortunately, he only has about 80% of the democratic vote. he's likeable enough, but...   ;-)

Looks like all African-American Democrats (0.00 / 0)
don't automatically disapprove of Hillary either. Or else, there would be a lot bigger drop in her popularity from 87% to 80%.

After all the months of bashing and negativity, the all-powerful Cheetos only made her lose 7% among Democrats.

And they say we're statistically insignificant?

Rasmussen Reports (0.00 / 0)
among voters surveyed, 43% say Clinton would do better against the Republican candidate, while 41% prefer Obama.

So, both Gallop and Rasmussen have Hillary polling better than Obama against McCain! Good grief, can you please have Hillary back.

Alice left me in Wonderland.

Axelrove says these polls are a joke and are all bogus. (0.00 / 0)
just heard it on cable news (forget which one)

well, he'll get lots of practice saying that... (0.00 / 0)
...for the next 70 days.

if obama gets the nomination tomorrow, all my heartache this election cycle will be over. i'll get some popcorn and watch the show.
